Is this app better then Magic Pose? ALso can you change the body proportions of the females?
@laurenball_illustrator8 күн бұрын
I prefer Pose Tool 3D because for the price (US $6.99 for iPad, one-time payment) it gives me the biggest bang for the buck (There's also a version available I can use on my desktop computer if I need, for US $29.99). But if you need the particular body morphing features, you'll definitely want to go with Magic Poser. The body morphing features are only available on the paid versions (Pro version US $9.99 one-time price, or Master version US $14.99 (PER MONTH)) Definitely go to Magic Poser's website to compare which version is right for you. Personally I'm tempted to go for the Pro version and see how it compares. The bottom line I think is how the two companies handle the actual posing. I like the control over the model poses in Pose Tool 3D, but you may find the posing controls of Magic Poser more to your liking. I'd love to hear which one you prefer.

Thanks for your comment! That will definitely be time well spent. The more you can separate the things you see from the names and symbols that are ingrained in your mind, the better and more quickly you'll see improvement in your drawings. Being able to focus on just the shapes you see will take you far!

Hello! Thank you for the recommendation! Do you know if there is an app that identifies pose by photo/image? Upload an image that contains the pose I want and it identifies the pose by itself. 😅 ~Thank you very much! ~I used Google Translate, so if it's bad, I apologize.

Thanks for letting me know this idea is hard to understand for you. I made this video mostly focusing on the ideas in the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (by Betty Edwards). But as I’ve taught people over the years I keep reminding myself that teaching is not one-size-fits-all. It’s hard to know everyone’s experience and where they are in learning to draw. I’ve found a solution though. When I sit with a student I can see right away what they’re struggling with. For example, I was with my daughter recently and she told me her struggles with drawing. We were looking at a scene and talking about how to draw it, and to me it seemed like it should be fairly easy, and she laughed and said, “Easy for you, with all your years’ experience.” I pointed out something in the room we were in and was showing her how I take some early measurements and she said, “Why are you closing one eye?” If we weren’t together she would never have seen that and I would never have known that was what was holding her back. So, if you’re willing, I’m offering-at no cost-to sit down with you in a Zoom call and let me see if I can help these ideas make sense for you.

I think the cat analogy is incorrect. Cat is not one of the three or four words you use in every sentence. If you are a portrait artist, the eyes are one of the four items you draw every time, as in eyes, nose, mouth, and hair. The cat analogy would work if there were only five words.
@laurenball_illustrator5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I chose the example of drawing a cat because it touched on the broader idea that these skills of observing negative shapes and angles apply to anything we draw. A "cat" is a "thing" in the same sense that "eye" is a "thing"- our brains have a stored visual library of these "things", these symbols that we've learned since childhood. You're right, I could have used "hair", since when we were children we learned to treat hair as a symbol as well when we drew people. But for the point I was trying to make, the idea extends beyond drawing portraits. When drawing from observation it applies to everything.

“Forget the name of that which you are drawing.” You’re not drawing eyes, or a car, etc, you’re drawing shapes and lines that will create the eye, or the car.

Traceing
@laurenball_illustrator5 ай бұрын
Tracing was only used at the beginning to point out key features. The actual drawing was done straight from observation (starting at about 8 minutes). As far as being a bad artist... yeah, my inner critic would agree 😬

If the subject is looking at you face on that is fine. But what about when the subject’s face is viewed at an angle?
@laurenball_illustrator4 ай бұрын
@@ankhpom9296 What a great question! You're right, when we look at the subject facing directly to the front it seems easier. That's because the features match how we've always drawn them since we were children. But when the head turns all those features no longer match those face symbols we've been relying on. Now they're just a bunch of unfamiliar shapes. This forces us to try and observe the negative shapes around the features, and if you haven't been practicing this it can be frustrating. Here's a recent video I made about this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2W0fX6lmMqUf9E

sometimes i trace an image of body, then cut it into segments so i understand why it looks looser than when i draw free handed. it's not my art when i trace but it really helps me locate where should be what, and how the body works. i've gotten myself back into drawing and this method of trying to find likeness makes me feel better about how art works for me. like copying math directly off the board in school, i didn't do the math, the teacher did but it's walked through and it helps me learn. thank you, i feel better about getting back into drawing.

Is there a reason you do 1/4s instead of 1/3s?
@laurenball_illustrator7 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I like to think it simplifies things. With the more familiar 1/3 grid you want to place your area of interest where one of the horizontal and vertical lines intersect. With just one horizontal line and one vertical line all you have to do is make sure your area of interest is in one of the four squares. You'll find that this places the area of interest very close to the same place as the 1/3 grid. So, with fewer grid lines you get the same result. Another benefit is that you will become less dependent on grid lines in general. They can become a crutch if you rely on them too much.

Any idea where the random pose button has gone? Cant find and its the only reason i have the app
@laurenball_illustrator8 ай бұрын
You're right, the "Random Pose" button used to be located in the main menu, under the "Add Inventory" button. The older versions of Pose Tool 3D did not provide any pre-set poses, so the "Random Pose" button was the only option besides posing figures completely from scratch. Now the new version does provide poses (under the "Add Inventory" button). And they've added a new feature "Face Pose". This new "Face Pose" button is where the "Random Pose" button used to be. I think this is a much better process than before, since now you can choose from one of the preset poses and be much closer to your imagined pose than if you just kept hitting the "Random Pose" button numerous times till something sort of useful hopefully showed up. I hope you find the new preset poses helpful as a starting point. They do keep adding new ones with each update.
