@@ridabutt4345 I can’t answer that question fr you because it all depends on the quality of the research you conduct. No one program is going to make you stand out. It’s all about the research and why that work is important to the impact that you want to make in the field and your community. I got into a fully funded summer research program at the university of Arizona and I was still able to get into Harvard graduate school.

Ok can you tell me that does the length of the paper and type of publication matter. What if it is published in a low tier journal? Also does it matter that under whom you conducted the research. Does it have to be a professor, or can it be a group of students?

@@ridabutt4345 the length definitely matters. A true publication is usually 30 pages and the work should be conducted under a professor not student group. And the journal doesn’t really matter because they don’t expect undergrads to publish but if you can publish in a top tier journal in your field that would make you stand out.

It’s going to depend on the other components of your application. If you feel like one area of your application is not as strong I would recommend taking the gre to offset the part of your application that is lacking.

Hi, unless you have an acceptance letter or anything in writing, these emails don’t mean anything. They are good for connecting with professors but it doesn’t guarantee you admission. In terms of your second question, o think it can be doable but you will be on a very tight budget. I’m currently a full time PhD student in San Diego but I also work full time because I don’t think I would be able to afford it with just a stipend.

Yes the same three people sent letters of recommendation to all 10 of the programs I applied to. I talked to them ahead of time and asked them if they were willing and able to submit that many on my behalf. I also selected people who I had a strong relationship with so I knew they would support me. When I made the official ask through email, I sent them an entire package of my materials with a spreadsheet of all the programs I was applying including the links and deadlines. I tried to make it as easy as possible for them since I know it’s a lot of work.

@@bris8215 Yes focus on your work experience. In the video, I provided several ideas of what you can include in the statement of purpose but it’s up the applicant to decide what should be included. I tell my clients to select different experiences and not just focus on one such as being a school teacher and that’s all you bring to the table. If you are applying to PhD programs, you need to show some research experience. It doesn’t have to be formal experience but showcase your interest in research and how you have attempted to solve pressing questions in your sector. I’m not sure what you are referring to because I made this video a long time ago, but it is possible to attend your dream school if you plan ahead and apply for funding.

It all depends on the type of program you are applying to. My program valued research to practice and so I showcased that in the writing sample. If the program you are applying to is strongly focused on the research process then I suggest that you submit a formal research paper for your writing sample.
