The thing about this manga / anime is that the story doesn’t just make the girls archetypal for the sake of being archetypal. The joke doesn’t end at just the premise for this anime. The genius is that this story takes the concept to its EXTREME logical conclusion by making each and every girlfriend memorable in a unique way, keeping every single one relevant for all future plotlines. None of the characters, despite leaning heavily into tropes, are one-note or boring. I believe this is a big part of what makes the story work.

I would def be interested in seeing this author handle a more serious story because the way he keeps all of the characters involved is nothing short of genius

Imagine posting a year ahead of time to not watch the anime…when the ENTIRE REASON the author wrote it was to get it made into an anime with Inori’s Seiyuu in it. 🙄

1:00 If you pause and look at the scene where the first years are in the auditorium, you can see: Shizuka, Nano, Meme, Hakari, *and* Karane, all at once, that was honestly the funniest thing to me after rewatching the first season upon reading the manga
@ODST_Parker17 күн бұрын
I cried TWICE watching this damn series! First was the Shizuka confession. Wouldn't really call it crying per se, but definitely got my eyes watery. The second... yeah, that one got me good. Tears were shed. I was not expecting a story like 100 Girlfriends to hit me so hard with such a powerful scene in the penultimate episode of the first season, but it sure did. The scene of Hakari nearly falling to her death, and being rescued by Rentarou. That was strong enough on its own, but it's what happens right after. Karane comes up, slaps Hakari and calls her a moron, before breaking down and just sitting there with the two of them, crying their eyes out. The way her voice breaks (English dub fucking nailed it) just hit like like a knife to my heart. I watched it because I was told it was just a really good harem parody! I did not expect to be hurt by such real and deep shit like that!

Ended up being the anime didn't ruin it, but the anime definitely isn't as good as the manga. They leave out too many details and character interactions that really make the manga shine. Certain scenes in the anime also don't carry the same emotional weight as the manga. Honestly think I might stop watching because the whole time I'm just seeing all the stuff they left out.

did engi kick your dog or something? you are very spiteful. i wont be reading the manga specifically because of your attitude in the comments here.
@danyul-20 күн бұрын
My comments are pretty tame? I have like 3 comments saying that they need to earn my trust since they have repeatedly shown that beyond episode 1 for many shows they just throw in the towel for production quality and respect for the source. I think that's a pretty fair stance to have

@@danyul- I get that I generally give things until Ep 3-4 before I decide. Ep 1 was great so far, I will watch 2 and 3 with the wife this week so we will see if I enjoy. But yeah Inori and Tsukasa's connection is great. Love the characters so far. If the anime doesnt work out then It will be the 2nd full manga I read probably.

Another thing I think is interesting is that Rentaro doesn’t have any hobbies from what I’ve seen. His only hobby is romance. Literally, his favourite genre is romance and he has stick to that since he was 8 months old. I think this is the reason why he is able to handle 100 girlfriends. But actually loving them and caring for every one of them is truly insane, especially to other extents such as knowing what they all like and dislike, and how to get the best ending possible for every one of them.

I mean, compared to Brave Witches, which I found out of curiosity on a website that just has almost all anime in existence, I think there is a big difference. In this case, I really see a story being told in Onimai based off of what you said, I still have to watch it. That compared to Brave Witches where it is OBVIOUSLY catered to deliver... something else. I believe it's similar to the movie, The Professional. If you do not give the story a chance, you won't be able to see the real subtext about love, caring for someone, or being a parent. Same here, the subtext seems to be on self-improvement via a degenerate kid lol! But I think we've all been at a point in our lives where we are kinda trapped at our lowest, but desire to move higher in life. I think the whole "young girl gender bend" thing might be satirical and poking fun at usual fictional anime plots. That's my opinion. And I think that is what is most important to take from this.

Rewatching the whole series, I would rank it s3>s4>s1>s1 (if not for the constant recap in season 4 *its not Ryu's old Familia flashback* it would be my top 1.) Reading the novel made me appreciate the things that the anime cut out. For example, Naaza and Miach's side story. Overall, the anime adaptation is a mixed bag for me. They focused more on fan service mainly on Hestia badonkers and all supporting cast praising bell more than the gods, that it made them 0 personality or value *in the anime*.

I put off DanMachi for the longest time, mostly because I was put off by it's name and the general discourse around it at the time, which might I add did a wonderful job mischaracterizing the series. People gave me the impression it was some Harem bit (which, I've come to realize, people don't know what that word means). I started watching it recently, and I'm now caught up, about halfway through season 5, and boy has it been an exciting ride. Season 3 things started getting pretty serious, Season 4 was one long series of escalations and disasters, and Season 5 just decided to let loose completely and go absolutely over the top. Super excited to see how it plays out.
