Hi. No the lines are not there permanently. We ran the lines ourselves. We took them back out when we left. I mean technically if you have the GPS coordinates and have your own gear there is nothing stopping anyone diving there. I would suggest it's not the place for people who don't have a lot more than just a recreational scuba tickets. We for example are all experienced cave divers and rebreather divers. It is cold, deep, dark and at altitude.

@@seanpe80 Those types of mysteries keep me going back. I always wonder if it will get old or I'll get bored. That's not out of the question but I don't see it happening. Cause you can always see more sights, travel to new places and endlessly explore. Loved how they were diving through the regulator hose. Although it had me a bit worried for a moment, wouldn't want them to know that reg out of his mouth! A scuba friend has a funny story of a crab that grabbed his reg hose and pulled it out of his mouth. Not sure if it's true or not but wouldn't be surprised if it were! It really does feel like space exploration (what I imagine that would be like) which is why it's so fascinating.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. Actually this was a really basic setup. As it was a family holiday and we were only doing 1 day of diving all I took was the Gopro, a single tray and 1 light. There is no external lenses used. As it was clear and we were 12m or less plus I didn't use red filters it meant I could keep the iso from going to high which helps. Diving can add up cost wise. Luckily where I live you can often dive without dive shops. So if I go for a dive at home its very cheap as I just need the fuel to get there and to run my compressor to fill a tank. Of course Ill ignore the years of training and the cost of all my gear, compressor and boat and claim its cheap for me to dive :)

I need to check my render settings again haha! Well our waters aren't nearly as clear, especially in the summer! A lot of what we like to call "whale snot" heh. @@seanpe80 That is nice. The thing that is stopping me from getting it is in some shots you can see the reflection of the lens. Not in this video but others when shooting towards light. Other than that it seems very nice.
@seanpe80
@seanpe80 27 күн бұрын
That can happen with any wet lens. Its only one tool for use in certain shots not to just put on and forget. In fact in certain conditions even just the gopro itself will reflect off the underwater housing (I have that issue in caves quite a bit). Having the hood in the right spot and knowing your angles is the key. Also there is plenty of limitations with each setup so that's why I use the flip system. For example the AOI is terrible above water and I never try and use it when rolling into the water (it gets bubbles etc and all out of focus). It is also really only works with wide FOV. It is also easy to scratch so I rarely do tech dives with it. Next choice is no lens and the problem here is the focus distances are terrible, the FOV is narrower so between the two you need to be further away from a subject and its not as sharp. Next option is the macromate but it only works in a very very specific distance from a subject and is only good at small creatures who don't move. The macromate also suffers from reflections sometimes. I really like the lens but its not some massive difference and is only for certain shots. Just like the macromate. Or even the difference between adding anything to your gopro. I have great shots from 5m of water with no housing and stock settings but as you learn to adjust settings, use gopro labs, add a housing, a tray, lights, tripods, lenses, floatation etc etc it just increases what shots you can get. Which is pretty amazing given its price compared to a real camera. Its not a must have though and I'd probably put it as the last add on for a system. Hope that helps

Hi. Yep I have the flip system from Backscatter. I only use the macromate mini lens from it though and the actual flip section. I have turned my AOI lens into a 55mm thread so I can use that on the flip system as I like to have option of wide or macro and not taking lenses off and on underwater and storing them somewhere. I currently use the gopro 11. I certainly recommend the macromate mini and the AOI 03 lens. I don't use the red filters at all. I would get lights and a tray first. The macromate without lights is not very good. Glad you like the footage.

@@seanpe80 Hi, awesome footage !! :-) I am trying to look for a similar system for my gopro as well to swap between macro and wide. Can I confirm that for your setup, you used the backscatter flip with macromate mini +15 on one, and FLIP FILTERS 55mm filter holder on the other? And for the AOI UWL-03 you got it with the AOI 55mm Threaded Lens Adapter? Can I check with you that the AOI 55mm Threaded Lens Adapter is compatible with the FLIP FILTERS 55mm Filter Holder for the FLIP system? Could not find anywhere online that has a similar setup as yours and would like to confirm it is compatible before making the purchase 🙂 Thank you so much once again!!
@seanpe80
@seanpe80 2 ай бұрын
Hi, yes thats what I have. Its not perfect but it does work. From my googling and working it out I could only really see a couple of options. 1. be stuck with one lens for the dive and keep installing different brackets each time. 2. Get the AOI macro lens but I wasn't sure that it was going to work as well as the macromate and you would need to swap lenses underwater and put one somewhere or 3. Do what I did and add a 55mm adaptor and use the flip system. The issue you will find is the AOI is so large that it won't flip back and lock in place. You will need to hold it back but it is out of frame. I can do it with one hand on my dual handle system. I have thought about adding a rubber band or similar to loop over the handle but I haven't done that yet as the lens does have a little eyelet on it where you could add it to. Hope that helps.
@chewyixin8743
@chewyixin8743 2 ай бұрын
@seanpe80 awesome, thanks for the clarification! finding out that an eyelet exists on the lens definitely convinced me to get the flip system as opposed to having 2 different AOI lenses and mounting on and off the dive tray.. the mounts on the trays aren't cheap as well haha have you experimented keeping the macromate on the vertical axis and the AOI on the horizontal?
@seanpe80
@seanpe80 2 ай бұрын
Hi, I have tried it both ways. My preference is the way you mentioned. Its easier to keep the aoi lens from swinging in the horizontal axis then falling down. Its quite a heavy lens in comparison to the rest. Some of ease will depend on how much space you have to the tray handle. The one Im using it will touch the left handle so I can hold with my fingers. The other thing I am thinking of trying is getting another tray that has adjustable widths and see if I can get the handles at a width that the lens will sort of get stuck lightly by the handle so it stays in place if that makes sense.

Yes. All apart from the close up of the seadragons tail which was with a macromate mini. I installed an adaptor on the AOI to make it a 55mm thread so I can use it on the backscatter flip system. Its not perfect but it means I can change btw AOI wide angle, no lens or macromate mini in one dive.

Yes dual handle tray with two cheap lights off ebay. If Im shooting wide angle I generally shoot 5k60 wide with high bitrate, auto WB, -0.5 EV and max ISO 400 max. Then with macro lens I generally shoot 5k60 linear zoomed in with same as before or when trying to get closer fish shots without macro. Then I normally half the speed when editing. Sometimes I shoot 4k120 if I want to slow the shot even more. This video also has some shots in supverview as well. It sort of depends on what Im trying to do. Lights are the best investment as all action cameras are ordinary in low light.
