It's my first time DMing because I found this adventure for 5 dollars at target lol. And after reading the adventure, I definitely see why it's so cheap. This thing was booooorriiiing. I changed a LOT. Firstly, I made Stormwreck Isle more of a vacation amusement park get away. The many kobolds running around make money by running a carnival style operation, and use that money to trade for things like clothes, tools, food etc. Lately, Stromrender has been harassing the area after the dragon game to try and stop him. He's been cruelly striking down on the carnival every few days and making it impossible for them to repair, and they're losing visitors fast. The party heads here after getting crazy cheap tickets to the island. So I start the story on a cruise ship! I let the party get some time to settle into character and interact with the others that will be visiting the island, namely two troublemaking adventurers, an illusion wizard and another that seems to be a paladin. (He once was a paladin for bahamut, but lost his rite, and has since become a rogue, working with the wizard to steal treasure and make a living) They got into a pretty big squabble after the illusionist beat them in a few gambling games, and now the plan is to allow the party to compete with them in collecting treasure, and try to stop them from stealing from the carnival too. I also changed the zombies into undead that have been affected by stormrenders electricity, and they know are coral infested glowing zombies that instead of being hard to kill, must be separated after death or they will conjoin and create a zombie amalgam. Very excited for how it'll go! My second session is in a couple days.

Why should I use Tarak and Varnoth? The seven kobolds would work just as well. Just meld the traits of them into some of the kobolds.

I'm coming late to the party, but on my side, as a player, I prefered to go to the Dice Box from Dragon Shield. As you perfectly mentioned in your video, I am typically in the case where we play on a basic "small/medium" dining table. So not much space here, and we play with paper character sheet (no tablet). Consequently, the dice box seems like a perfect solution, as it still allows to bing like a note book + pen + miniature (if need be) + dices, without taking too much space on the table at all :)

I'm running this campaign with a few friends 6 family members and many elements pf the official booklet felt off. Your tips to improve the campaign are awesome- the Ghoul being Aleitha feels logical, and maybe that was the author's idea but it wasn't communicated correctly.

how about when Mek and Min came to dig up dragon bones a few days ago, they caused a rock slide in the back of the cave. This now prevents the gas from escaping. Because the dragon bones were somehow connected to the elemental realm of fire, the crystal/egg was there anyway, the Myconids just weren't bothered by it.

I also went ahead and made some changes to the campaign. Hope to hear what you all think: 1. Runara doesn't give the key to the players. The party came back after doing The Seagrove and Sunken Ship only to be greeted by an earthquake. Runara then explains Sparkrender was injured during the fight with Aidron, but it seems the dragon has resumed the ritual. Runara will not accompany the players to the final battle, because she is holding up a protective barrier at the Dragon's Rest to prevent Sparkrender leaving the island, and protecting the Bahamut temple. 2. Runara told the players that the renegade kobolds have the crystal key to the observatory, and they have made camp outside of the observatory. 3. I created a new map, a final confrontation with the renegade kobold leader and a kobold camp right outside of the observatory. The players can defeat the kobolds or try to talk their way through to get the crystal key. 4. After getting the key, the players get into the observatory, and sees a few kobold servants that take cares of things for Sparkrender. Mek and Minn are among the servants and they're just trying to "keep the place clean" (killing the Stirges). So these kobolds aren't really in power or get to make decisions. Player can talk to Mek and Minn or fight them. 5. I moved the library from the tower underneath Sparkrender to the left side of the map where the crystal key is needed. So the player will have to get the key from the entrance somehow to find Aidron. 6. Aidron doesn't join the fight, in fact, Sparkrender was injured and the only way he can continue the ritual is by siphoning Aidron's life. Players can't free Aidron from captivity though they can kill Aidron to slow the ritual if they wish to. 7. Regardless of the result, I place an action counter the moment players walk into the observatory before Sparkrender completes the ritual. Should Sparkrender completes the ritual, Aidron will die, and Sparkrender will destroy the observatory, and go after the Dragon's Rest. 8. I also added a new map, the roof of the Observatory Tower, where Sparkrender is doing the ritual. Sparkrender isn't asleep, just occupied. There is no sneaking behind Sparkrender, since the library position has been moved. Once the players step on the Observatory roof, Sparkrender will greet them.

Some alternative hazards are: 1. A storm causing freezing rain/icing 2. Stone giants messing with ravines and passages 3. A brewing mutiny (Imryth tries to incite one and the PCs try to calm it. This is especially effective on Calcifero) 4. A strong cross breeze due to some perpendicular narrow passes 5. Cloud Giants attacking 6. Territorial/nesting White Dragons

We played dragons of stormwreck isle before lmop. Aidron completed his ritual and turned into a scary kind of hybrid young dragon who combined the spirits of all the dead dragons used in the ritual. He flew off and I'm planning on letting him resurface in Thundertree instead of Venomfang. I think he might become the Ultimate Big Bad for the overarching campaign that will continue after LMoP. Maybe I'll give him some world domination or tiamat awakaning ambitions 😊

Great video. Great content. I just had 1 doubt. How do we go from Nezzar meeting the players while helping them fight the redbrands in exchange for the puzzle box to suddenly being the black spider threatening them for the puzzle box. The players do not know that Nezzar is the black spider right? How did the players even get the chance to negotiate with the black spider to exchange for Gundren?

Cheers Faust! You may be overthinking it: the only goal is to have the Black Spider interact with the players, that's the entire point of the puzzle box. Any route you see to completing that goal is correct. If you can't make my vision work, follow your gut in the way that most makes sense to you :)

Yeah, I definitely agree with the loot. What I am going to do to make things more fun for my players on this campaign is give them some decent loot especially through the Winged Kobolt and through helping the Myconids. I added 2 Harpys to the Shipwreck to make it harder because my team is pretty ruthless fighters and let's face it, they are making better rolls than me this campaign lol. I also find the Stirges really underwhelming to fight as well. I also feel that in Seagrove Caves they leave us with little context and not really many significant interactions. So I guess that's kind of a good thing due to the fact that it leaves me room for improv which is something I need to work on anyways. (this is my first attempt at running a campaign). However, I have a good feeling that the party will enjoy what I have prepared so far.

Interesting take on the NPC‘s. But one thing about Myla and her Siblings: She was not betrayed and attacked by them. They left her when they were attacked by Stirges, which shredded Myla‘s Wings, believing her to be dead. About the Harpy: I indeed did her join the Party for a time. Her name was Rushka and the Party tried to reason with her instead of fighting her. They gave her some of their Treasure as presents and let her join in on a good meal, which she accepted. Later, she was welcomed by Runara and became very social and friendly. When the Party left the Island, she decided to stay with her new little Brother, Brumm the Owlbear. My Players sometimes ask me if they will meet the Characters of Stormwreck Isle again, because they love them so much and I am planning to incorporate some NPC‘s from Adventures they already finished into my own personal Campaign. I’m planning on using all the people they’ve made friendship with, helped and rescued, to pay them back during their final Battle against the greatest evil one can imagine!

Without looking the Video: As I understand it, she became a true pacifist after killing Sparkrender‘s Grandfather Eldenemir, when he stubbornly tried to kill her, despite her being merciful and begging him to stop. But she is a good Character to give the Characters guidance and Information. She does not fight, but it does not mean she can’t act. She can heal and get the Party out of Problems by scooping them up and flying them to safety, if she’s around. She is a Bronzedragon and as such, she as a very strong Sense of Justice, so she is convinced that her way is the right way. If the Party kills Sparkrender and not spare him, she openly mourns his Death and that there was no other way around it. This does make her a good and very believable Character that shows that there are powerful beings, who do not misuse their might and have their own personal struggles. I will watch the Video now and gonna know what you have to say about her.

About the wolves, they will be worgs. My PC's will be very likely level 3, because I will play DoSI first where they get the puzzle box from the compass rose. If my pc's leave the puzzle box in the cart, they will find it missing after they leave the hideout. It will not be hard to follow the footprints and find two goblins and little further away they see a female Drow with some spiders. It will be the 2nd time seeing her. First time will be in the Dragonbreath Brewery. All PC's standing in front of the door and nobody opens. They find spiders in the brewery and after the fight. Some guys and a female drow try to move Gundren in a box out of the cellar entrance. I hope I will find more reasons to let Nezznara appear.

About Random Encounters, I would only use them if I have no idea what to do next. If I read about additional or random encounters and I like them, I want them. I will plan to use them. I have a party of 3 players and I like the idea to give them the owlbear. So they have little help in combat. At least if the owlbear is in the mood. But only if the players like it, too.

I plan to start with DoSI and proceed with a mix of LMoP and DoIP. Main villains will be Cryovain and Nezzar (first female Drow/later Drider). Venomfang will mock the PC's, but is not interested in fighting them. He does not like to have Cryovain destabilize the area and if he sees a chance that the PC's will fight Cryovain, he may even help. Not every evil creature need to be an enemy.

🎉 Really, truly love the changes! I’m about half way through the campaign with my players and they have been so impressed and excited to play the next thing to see where it goes. I took all your suggestions, along with some of my own, like some elements from Skyrim and some custom magic items and I had the players have dreams that foreshadowed encounters they were to have. It made the campaign 100 times better especially the climax. I hadn’t read as written until I had watched this a few times and I’m like, “what were they thinking?! This is crap. I got to really press them making their way back to Tarrok, describing how he was getting weaker and needed help and Tarrok telling them it would take a couple hours for him to make it. The goals are 1) introduce the villain in a non-confrontational way to the players so they know her as a person; then 2) reveal her evil intentions in a way that builds animosity, so the the villain genuinely hates the players, and the players genuinely hate the villain.
