Do you know how to connect a keyboard to it?
@organfairy
@organfairy 2 күн бұрын
On the left side of the schematic I show at 0:05 there is a row of switches and a connection marked 'Lötpunkte'. Each key connects a resistor to this point so the keyboard is basically a big collection of resistors. It also means that the keyboard needs to have a low resistance in itself because if the switches has a significant resistance this will be added to the resistors and make the notes out of tune.

Yamaha seemed to have more imagination back then. Later they just called all wacky sounds 'Cosmic'. My MC-200 organ have a Cosmic 1, 2, and 3 in orange writing, Cosmic 1 and 2 in white writing (I haven't figured out what Yamaha meant with these colours), and Cosmic Brass 1 and 2.

Machen Sie weiter so. Tolle Leistung und sehr schön anzuhören ... 👍🎹🎹🎹🍀

Drums operated by a human, which in this case is myself 🙂 I have one organ that I would consider "modern" namely Technics SX-EA5, but I am honestly not very fond of it. The problem is that it is not very......... organlike; it sounds and feels like playing a Roland arranger keyboard - not that there is anything wrong with Roland's arranger keyboards, but it is too much computer and too little organ, and it has like 20 buttons to choose 750,000,004 functions! It's like the personality of an organ goes missing when it has a 'General MIDI' logo on it, which the Technics has.

Ich hätte auch nicht gedacht das die Orgel so klein ist, oder sind Sie so gross? Könnte ja auch sein. Jetzt zu dem Comet(en). Ist er jetzt komplett wieder einsatzbereit, funktioniert wieder alles? I'm from Denmark so I don't know anything about Barcelona - except that it is a city in Catalonia. If it is 'stuttering' on all the notes I would suggest that it is a problem with the power supply since this is common for all the notes. If it was a tone generator problem it would typically only show on some of the notes.

I have thought about getting another mailbox, but the thing is that it is hardly used anymore: In Denmark oldfashioned letters are pretty much a thing of the past because pretty much everything is electronic - even correspondance with public institutions like tax authorities, hospitals, banks, schools, etc. As a matter of fact getting the envelope out of the mailbox was 'staged' as the freight carrier knocked on my door to deliever it, as he needed me to sign for receiving it.

Hmm I wonder if the too high input is what killed the original 3080, dout it but you never know. Cool kbd none the less. I quite like these organ synth crossovers of the era. The only thing I dont like about them is that they are preset based most of the time with no direct synthesis control. I also wish they had another osc with 12 free running for each rather than a single TOS. They sound too static, I know costs and all that. Cool instrument though. Nice work on the repairs👍
@organfairy
@organfairy 28 күн бұрын
I don't think so. The input has a 10kohm resistor in series and with a maximum of 15V amplitude (the analog part runs on 2 x 15V) this can only give 1.5mA in current which is not very much.

The Comet actually has more controls that what you would usually find on an organ. On my other analog organs the VCF timing is fixed while on the Comet there are Attack/Decay and the 'HandWah' can be used as a sort of sustain (in synth terms) control if I use it together with the 'AutoWah'. But yes, I am fully aware that it is not a full ADSR system.

I think the reason it didn't work in the VCF is because Wersi used them in a somewhat unconventional way: In most of the applications I have seen it used, they have one of the two control inputs tied to GND and the other to a positive going control voltage. Wersi ties one control input to VCC and drive the other one negative. Personally I prefer synthesizer modules build from standard components as they are easier to understand (and cheaper to repair) but I do understand why Wersi used integrated components as it saves a lot in space and component count.

@@Krzychu-bh4rl In my professional life as an engineer I have sometimes had to find a substitution for an obsolete component. The problem is always if the original designer of a circuit has used a component in a way that it was not intended to be used. It works with the original component, but nobody can guarantee that it works with supposed replacements because they might be designed differently, which secures the straight forward use, but not the unusual use, as nobody thinks of checking that on the replacement - because the maker doesn't know that anybody uses it in other ways than what it was designed for.

So you finally made it - congratulations!!!! As I own a Comet too, I did a short google research about the CA3280 and there are some CA3280E available for around 2,00 $ each. According to the data sheet the difference to the CA3280 (without E) is that the operating temperatore is limited to 70° which should be high enough. What about the reverberation system? Is the original Comet-reverb working? I havent heared reverb in your videos at all....
@organfairy
@organfairy 28 күн бұрын
There is none. It has a reverb plug in the bottom and there is an interface and a couple of buttons that is marked "Hall" (German for Reverb) but they don't do anything. For some reason the reverb was apparently something that was external - sort of like when a mixer has an "Effect send" and "Effect return". I do have a couple of reverb tanks lying somewhere and I have thought about building one of them into the Comet - mostly because it annoys me to have buttons that don't do anything!
