I’ve not seen the one not holds the chord thing before. That’s a new one. We have a giant unit in storage I wish I could give you, but not possible. We had to reseat countless chips when we got it years ago, because it had a ghosts mode that would play spooky patterns without touching it. 👻 Thanks for the video.

Many organ tone generator chips have the ability to hold a note or chord. It is intended for the lower manual where many organs can keep the accompaniment going after you let go of the keys. Wersi took the unusual approach to also use this feature on the upper manual to make it possible to sustain notes - it even has a button marked "Klang Speicher" - 'Sound Memory', where the notes sustain indefinately. I don't know why they included this feature........ probably "because we can".

I understand what you mean. Some corners have clearly been cut. The stacking everything in mono limitation was very normal at the time although some higher end machines a least had mono subgroup outputs. So such limitations are alas part of the “zeitgeist”. For really nice production values one simply has to multitrack it. For instance have a listen to what Andy Zehnpfennig did with it. Overall it however has the quirky Wersi character I like. By the way: In spite of its effectiveness the wersivoice effect is always monophonic anyway, even in the stand alone module Wersi also marketed. But putting a good stereo chorus after it should at least solve that problem.

A little stereo reverb can actually make it sound quite nice too.

Interesting. I have the feeling the specification of this organ was rather driven by the engineers, not the musicians…

From what I have heard or read the development of the Comet was very much driven by what the Siemens organ ICs that was used could do. There are some strange design choices made here and there. Also I find it odd that the Comet looked so much different from the 'usual' Wersi design - white organ tabs or rocker switches and drawbars instead of sliders.
