I just brought one! I'd like to say about why dies it needs a piano sound? Well very simply if you are mainly analogue like me, aka MK70 Moog source, JD08 JX08! Sold 2 x Casio CTX 5000, and suddenly realised l have no synrhs that can do piano or acoustic anything, lol. Though the electric piano on a deep mind 12 is amazing! So if anyone wonders why the Jupiter X needs a piano sound, RD piano's! Yes yes yes, lol. 😂

Thank you for your video. It is continuing to convince me not to buy the Roland Jupiter X along with other demos by other people online of this keyboard. I think this keyboard works for some people but it is not delivering as the keyboard for me. When people say it’s just a vst in a box I understand what they are saying because this keyboard is a disappointment to me. Hopefully Roland will make a Jupiter and a Juno I like some day but maybe it just won’t be in the cards. Here’s my complaint so you can understand what pushes me away from this keyboard. All of the demos I see of the keyboard are so loud. As if this keyboard is trying to lie to me by hiding itself in the loudness wars. If it were just in one demo I would believe that you placed a limiter on your recording and turned it up to 11…but it’s on all of the demos I hear of this keyboard. Every one. It’s an intentional design in this keyboard. It’s like a plugin designer making a plugin louder to trick the buyer…or intentionally setting an eq point of an eq plugin 100 hertz lower to fool the buyer into thinking that this eq is fatter than the other plugins when it’s just a lie to trick the buyers. Also the attacks on this keyboard are too aggressive for me. Personally I’ve always hated the loudness wars. I feel that the loudness wars reduces most recordings’ longevity. I think this is not a keyboard for people who hate the loudness wars. I think that people who love the loudness wars would probably love this keyboard. The other complaint I have is there isn’t enough movement in the sound. I can get my DX 7 to sound like an analog keyboard but this does not even come close in it’s lack of movement that analog has. When digital fails it is that it is too boring. This has that static boring digital thing hidden in loudness. I like the Nord Lead but I don’t like this. I’m glad it works for you and many others. So far Roland has not shown me a digital Jupiter or Juno that speaks to me like they did in their analog past. I’m not giving up on Roland but this keyboard is not so far winning me over and I’ve seen enough videos that I doubt it will. This keyboard is perfect for you because you love it and that love is real for you. When I listen to this keyboard…I hate it’s sound. So far it’s the wrong Jupiter and Juno for me. I’ll wait. Once again…thank you for making this video. I’m glad the keyboard works for you. Your generosity to show us this keyboard was very helpful to me. You have a wonderful life…sir…and take care.

The Jupiter X is also a very neat synth but I prefer the sound of ACB as it goes more in depth while modeling the actual original filters rather than having one generic “Roland” filter as the Jupiter X does. Regardless the X is a badass synth with insane sonic capabilities not to mention looks just absolutely gorgeous. I want to ask you, how has the tiny screen in the corner affected your opinion on the X? @@JimDaneker Yes excellent job here Jim ( you still have your KX88 ? if so, would love you see you rock it with a TX816 ) I am also fortunate enough to own all three of these and am waiting for a OBX8 module to make a an OBX16. I also love the Rev2 for its own character. It was my first of these three and I bought it before the P5/p10 reissue and OBX8. i highly recommend listening from 22:48 onwards with your eyes closed. My Experience with the three: Rev2: more programing options, 16 voices can help a lot, scooped out mids compared to the others. A modern classic in its own right with already a serious lineage stemming from Prophet8. You need to embrace the different sound of the DCOs. This instrument for me perfectly straddles modern instruments with complex programming options with vintage prophet sound. It is its own creature and stands proudly in my studio as that. Prophet 5/10: limitations of what you can program are what set you free. Mono however maybe all you want in many circumstances. This instrument is one giant sweet spot in terms of sound ( it is hard to make it sound bad ). OBX8: if i had to pick only one, this would the it. I had wanted one of these ( OB series ) for 40 year. The moment I played an OBX8 in the flesh there was no question for me. It has it all, the sound, the easy of programming. I am not bothered at all by page 2, for me it's a non issue. I would rather have page 2 by a long shot than have those features deleted or a significant increase in knobs, etc. Get the blue overlay if you want short cuts printed on the keyboard. I prefer the clean grey OEM look, at least for now. I find it remarkable that they have released ver 2.0. My overarching ethos with these instruments is " a particular sound over features " or "a particular character over complexity. " Nothing against a Quantum MK2 or Moog One, these are magnificent beasts of a different nature.

Once you listen to the comparison entirely in 'MONO', you will realize that Rev2 sounds very bad compared to P5, as the 'binaural' destroys its phase, making it even worse. Rev2 does come close, but P5 still has that low-end, low-mid richness and warmth you can't get from Rev2...

Hi Jim. I'm concerned about the issue of knob position latching. I see this happens when you are adjusting them. Apparently you must have previously loaded a patch, and of course if you move the filter cut-off, it jumps. This type of behavior is problematic for those of us who need to perform live, while attempting to vary sound quality, timbre, etc. as part of the performance/arrangement. Of course, an all analog, non-patchable synth doesn't suffer from this, so I was wondering if you have heard anything within this industry regarding different approach to parameter latch. Surely the OB-X8 and other signature synths seem disadvantaged by this. What are your thoughts please?
@JimDaneker
@JimDaneker 18 күн бұрын
@@philmagnotta5553 you can change the knob behavior directly on the synth so that it avoids those "jumps." Not a problem at all. Most synths let you do that. And the OB-X8 signal path is entirely analog, as are others like the Prophet 5 Rev4; but they allow you to change the knob behavior from "pickup" to "instant jump." "Pickup" is what you were looking for… it means the knob has to pass through the current (stored) value before it will have an effect.

Hey Jim, I really appreciate your awesome videos and how they contribute to the synth community. Your videos on the OB-X8 and Third Wave make a compelling case for them as worthy additions to my studio. However, regarding the Jupiter/Juno X, I must respectfully disagree. I have compared my Juno-6, SH-101, and my previously owned Juno-106 to the X, and I wasn’t as impressed with the Zen-Core engine as I was with Arturia’s Juno-6 model and the ACB units. My main issue, aside from the sound, is that the X series units are difficult to navigate. The feature overload makes these units lose the simplicity and charm I associate with their vintage counterparts. Roland’s panel designs from the 70s to the early 80s were artfully crafted for musicians and sound designers alike; they are easy to service, and spare parts are fortunately plentiful. Additionally, their limitations led to genre-defining music that pushed artists to think outside the box. I’m not saying you can’t make good music with Zen-Core products, but I understand where the criticism of Roland’s current catalog comes from. I think it would benefit Roland to follow Sequential/Oberheim's manufacturing practices and revive their catalog so a new generation can experience their charm and majestic character as originally designed, before they were overwhelmed with limitless features and cryptic workflows. The revival can easily be achieved considering that the schematics for these units are widely accesable and the Ir3109 filter IC (used in rolands catalog from Jp-4 to the 106) has been cloned to death. I’m not opposed to having a VST in a box; considering that the Virus C is my favorite in that category, the System-8 (which I know you covered in this video) fills the void better in terms of sound and workflow. I just can’t justify getting a Jupiter-X when I can get a VST from Roland or Arturia that captures the essence for less than 1/10th of the price or save up for the Black Corporation ISENIN, which is a solid analog recreation. For the Juno-X, the Juno-106 costs a bit less now, and you can buy a Juno-6 for roughly the same price and have the real thing modded with MIDI. As mentioned previously, the V Collection and Cloud offer the same quality for a lot less than the X. I’m looking forward to your new content and wish you the best!

In fact, I share many of those same criticisms. As a System 8 owner, I readily admit that one is my preference for accessing Roland's analog legends - it's such a straightforward and knob-per-function interface, and no doubt their ACB modeling is top-notch. Honestly, I wish the JPX was more of a System 8 in that metal body. I too got really frustrated with the JPX early on, for many of the reasons you stated. @@TwinCitiesOxygen I had one and it was a great pad & soundscape machine, but one of the most complicated and frustrating user interfaces Roland ever conceived. I also hated the cheap plastic feel on that one.

So basically, you get a better synth with the System 8 at nearly half the price. With the Jupiter X, all you get is bigger keys and some aesthetics.
@JimDaneker
@JimDaneker 26 күн бұрын
@@brandonaikin5445 not true. While they cover some of the same vintage model territory, they're very different. The System 8 is definitely their best modeling tech, and it's hyper-focused on that. The JPX on the other hand is like an entire anthology of Roland's greatest hits in one box: not just vintage synths, but a lot of modern stuff too, plus pianos, many of their iconic drum machines, other model expansions, vocal designer card, etc. - plus a vastly better road-worthy chassis and keybed.

@@JimDaneker I would like to see Roland release a new supersaw synth, maybe even a hybrid or an analog with 8/16 voices that does what the JP-8000 did, but more aggressive if need be with numerous filters. The 8000 and 8080 synths are top 5 synths.

@@JimDaneker I had the Jupiter X for awhile. There were some really cool sounds. I sampled some into my Emax lol! So one thing I love about the X… you’re able to zone the keyboard to separate midi channels… As a live performance tool it’s excellent! I love that you’re able to save that in scenes and I also love the key action. I arp is also inspiring… wrote a Christian song using it :)
