Very cool! I read in Keyboard Magazine from 1992 that Phil was triggering samples of his gated toms in addition to the live kit when he played live. He said the reason was because the compressor on the mics would pick up the crowd noise.

That wouldn't surprise me. Recreating that iconic sound live isn't easy; the ambient sound of "The Stone Room" is a crucial part, and that wouldn't exist in a live setting. Drums are close-mic'd but there's no surrounding room in the immediate vicinity to capture and gate, so the best you can do is try to approximate it with outboard processing - which of course isn't nearly the same!

Jim, it is so great to see you play this...gotta be one of my favorite songs just because of the build up to that particular point. Who would of thought all those years back in HS band that you would be sampling drums today....just curious but do you play the trombone anymore.

Hey bud! Yeah, it's a blast - I wish I was actually good at playing drums. Working on it! As for trombone, I'm not sure I ever really played it well at all 😂😂😂

Very exciting, Jim! Thanks for sharing about how you recorded this. Before Christmas, I signed up to be a Player 1, but now I'm wondering if I should be a Player 2! 😀

Hey Jim, I felt compelled to link Arcade Orchestra, and DX Dreams in another youtube channel comments section (on the latest video) where the livestream video was asking the community what 80's sounds they would recommend. I mentioned a few vintage synth emulations that have preset libraries, but your DX Dreams/ 2 are next level. The YT channel is Julian Croot, who pumps out some amazing full 80's song recreations inside the daw. Just wanted to share the passion for 80's synth love! Hope thats OK? Hope you're well.
