Hello. :-) I followed the whole process. The outlines were drawn as vectors in Illustrator. Coloring in Procreate is pixel-based. I understood this process. But how do you save the finished file if you want to print a poster or a complete canvas in the future? Or would you then take the file with the vector-based outlines and "re" color it? The image can no longer be scaled up indefinitely, or am I wrong?
@authorsandillustratorsАй бұрын
Hi Maria Thanks you for watching :-) You are right. But what I have experienced being a problem when scaling up, is mai ly the outline where the contrast is great - and the pixels therefor expose themselves. In the colouring - there is a lot of pixels blending amongst each other - so you need to look much closer for your brain not to fill in the gaps. What I would do would therefor be to export a version of the colours in the dimensions I need, and then also export a new outline from illustrator in the same high resolution. Then I would merge the two - the colours in en background, with the new sharp outline. Then I will almost guarantee, that not a soul will notice. I made a banner ones in 10 times 5 meters - that originated from a 1200px image. There were no outlines, and the ones watching looked at it from a distance - so no-one noticed :-)

I tried this and when I export my illustrator file into procreate, there seems to be some fuzzy pixelation going on when I look at the file in procreate. It's as if it's lost some quality. Not sure what to do?
@authorsandillustratorsАй бұрын
This is strange ... I see someone liking your comment - so I guess others experience the same. It is hard for me to know exactly what is going on - maybe the resolution you have in Procreate is bigger, or smaller than the one you exported from Illustrator? Just shooting in the blind here ... sorry for my late reply in here - I am hard at work trying to publish my book :-)

So helpful! Thank you! I was trying to learn how to vectorize with the darn pen tool by laying out anchoring points and dear lord it felt so unatural and would give me literal headaches lol. Being a studio artist that has never worked digitally, this tutorial is sooo goood and straight to it! Thank you!!!!!

yes!!! alot of artists straight up need to copy what they see. You can do all the still life in the world, but you gotta learn techniques from artists you enjoy. Right now I am going out of digital and into traditional again to save my eyeballs from years of strain so im looking at ink and washing, but this also breaks down how to transition into a different medium....kinda wish it was in the other direction though and unfortunatly i havnt found as many artists going digital to traditional. But this was still helpful, thanks!

Hello)) I have a question. When you are contributing ai file from ipad to another device - do the lines and brushes are still looking like path or they are coverted into shapes? Because I`ve tried to draw on free vector program and it converted all lines in shapes during contribution. Thank you)))

Adobe have a cloud solution - so anything I do in Illustrator on the iPad is also available on my Mac in Illustrator. When using the tools I do here, it is always in shapes. I personally like it that way :-)

How do you export from desktop ai to iPad procreate?
@authorsandillustrators Жыл бұрын
I would also export the layers as PNG with transparent background, and then send them to your iPAD with AirDrop, via the Photos-App or Apple Archives, Dropbox or similar. Hope this helps
@tessacornercube Жыл бұрын
It doesn't retain the layers @@authorsandillustrators
@authorsandillustrators Жыл бұрын
@@tessacornercube If you hide all layers but one, and then export - it will create a PNG with only your visible layer. Then do the same for all your layers, and you will have a separate PNG for all layers, that you can import into ProCreate one by one 🙂

Whats app you used to record the screen? I need show the finger toch
@authorsandillustrators Жыл бұрын
I actually used the iPad OS build in screen capture. The trick is to enable a custom AssistiveTouch shortcut. You can follow this step by step guide: support.screencast-o-matic.com/portal/en/kb/articles/show-finger-taps-when-recording-your-screen-on-ios

Have you tried Affinity Designer? Just wondering how it stacks up as a vector app on the iPad for the type of work you do here
@authorsandillustrators Жыл бұрын
I have indeed - was actually thinking of creating a video of the main difference. I actually bought the Affinity Designer, since it handles both vector and raster in one, and has a ton of features. But when I tried out their brushes for vector it turned out, that the strokes was not real vector, but pixel based maps in a very large scale. When zooming in, it looked like blurry pixels. It does not have the blob brush, as Illustrator does. Very sad, since it is a cool and more affordable tool. If they get a blob brush one day, I might try it out again :-)

It came with the brush pack I mention in the video about color: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmGugZmrh6qpj7s It has a ton of additional paper textures. I can warmly recommend buying this pack: tsvetka.artstation.com/store/0gKp/procreate-watercolor-brushes-paper-textures

Hello there. So I was just wondering why did you sketch on procreate and then do outline work on AI, when you could have done the outline work directly on procreate? What is the reason, if I may ask?
@authorsandillustrators Жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. I want to be able to have the outline in vector, so it does not loose quality when I scale it up. My experience is that when you scale pixel based images up it is at the hard edges with a lot of contrast that gives away the pixels first. So in the colored areas where there is a lot of shades the pixels does not show up as apparent as in the outline. So by keeping the outline in vector, I can scale up vector and colours separately, and then recompose them, maintaining 100% sharp edges. I hope that explains

If you only notice after drawing a bunch that the paths are all disconnected, how do you go about joining them into a group? I found it super fiddly to do!

Me to… I have not had the need to clean it up after the fact myself, but let me see if I can find a good way - I’ll return with an answer if I find a good one :-)

If you select the strokes you want to combine, you can press the ‘Combine Shapes’ icon in the menu to the right, and select ‘combine all’. That will merge the strokes into one shape 😊

Hi Chey, Yes I did :-) I have actually created separate tutorials on how I did the outline in Illustrator, exported it back into Procreate, and how I added the colors in Procreate: - Inking the outline in Illustrator: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4TZl2dtfZyJrdk - Export into Procreate: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5W2o4Noqr5klZY - Colors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmGugZmrh6qpj7s
