I think this event was made with about three intents in mind. 1. Funny Theresa side-story 2. Bring back Otto and make more stories between him and Theresa 3. To continue exploring a deeper part of Theresa’s character. I originally thought that her longing for her grandfather eventually faded by the time APHO rolled around or post-Honkai, but it seems she still misses him in a deep corner of her heart. Since chapter 28, she was torn between whether she wanted to love her grandfather or hate him. At the end of Kolosten, she was still carrying this unresolved feelings and I quote: “The old photos on the wall, the old stamps on the documents, every time I look at them. An inexplicable feeling swells up within me, It’s not sadness… nor happiness.” Chapter 31-ex (The side-stories) delved into this further with Theresa being accompanied by (her glamorized image of Otto Apocalypse) to help her escape from the dream. Her true inner conflict was revealed, despite all of his wrongdoings, he still acted as a proper guardian for Theresa in her time of needs, which created the image of a protector that never faded despite all his years of wronging her. “Although Otto Apocalypse was an unforgivable man, when the time called, he did indeed shelter you from the rain and storm.” (Funny retcon here, this arc of her character was supposed to end here with the final lines in black saying: “From then on, Otto Apocalypse never appeared in Theresa’s dreams in any form again” < to imply that he no longer haunts her. But well, simp-sama returns because content.) Anyways, this event I think takes a lighthearted tone on Theresa’s longing to 1) Have a parental figure again 2) Be a kid again and not have to deal with this and that. It’s really tragic if you think about it, she barely got to spend time with her friends (Cecilia and Siegfried). She took on Cecilia’s will and ran St. Theresa in peace and was headed for a happy life (of course the only piece missing is her grandfather), He proceeds to gives her the bird and unalives himself and now she has to run Schicksal and take care of everyone. She learned and was guided, protected by Otto but barely into her years of fun, she was already smacked full of responsibilities and the darkness of the world. Then the person who she wants to count on just goes ahead and disappears and she has to step up and lead everyone.

DAMN!! I'm literally crying!! OTTO didn't get to become a Grandfather to Theresa before and finally he now has a chance to be the grandfather to his Granddaughter!!! Seeing Otto interact with Theresa and being a Family warms my heart!! YES THIS IS WHAT I HAVE WANTED ALL THIS TIME!!!
