Hi Joshua! We use special wood/metal combination blades, they definitely last longer than one pallet. The only problem we have is that they warp, but we straighten them again

Oh wow, I could learn so much from your experience with this. I'm so glad i came across this video. Is it correct to say that if there's soot on the heat exchanger then you are not achieving full combustion within the core? Does soot deposit on the masonry bell when the heat exchanger is bypassed OR is it only the cold water in the heat exchanger that puts too much load on the stove?
@CreateYourOwn_Paradise
@CreateYourOwn_Paradise 2 ай бұрын
Hi Beetooex, I asked the builder of the stove, Lucian, for a reaction, this is what he said: So, the bottom line is yes, obviously, the presence of soot means it's not burning completely, and that's not good. But there are lots of reasons that can happen. First of all, no rocket stove, especially a batch rocket stove, burns perfectly through the whole burn. When you first light it up, it's not burning efficiently because nothing's hot yet. The chimney hasn't heated up, and the heat riser hasn't heated up. The oxygen mix is wrong, so you're going to get some degree of soot deposit. The longer the outflow is from the main stove, the more opportunity there is for that to deposit as carbon. Especially if you've got imperfect combustion and a big tank of cold water, it will drop all of the soot really quickly onto the heat exchanger. One thing you could do, and what we do these days more, is to leave the up and door open to access a bypass, but we could have built a more dedicated bypass for that, I guess. That's one suggestion. The other thing is that the whole stove is at the limit, really, of what it can handle, especially with the heat exchanger in the flue gas path. We're on the edge of putting too much load on the main core. Peter van den Berg explained that it's possible to overload the combustion material for the secondary burn. If you put lots of small bits of wood on the stove after it's already going, you can generate so much smoke and carbon monoxide that it overwhelms the stove's capacity to burn it all in the secondary burn chamber. This is a limitation with this batch box rocket design; it's hard to tune the loading so that you don't get that effect. The first few times we ran it, we got some thermal runaway, where if you put loads of paper on it, you can end up with so much material burning so quickly that it can't suck in enough oxygen to burn it all in complete combustion. That produces a layer of soot out of the end of it. So, bottom line, yes, there is imperfect combustion. But sometimes imperfect combustion doesn't mean the thing is not working correctly; it just means it takes a bit of tweaking. He's probably right that the whole thing is a little overloaded. We had to make some approximations because we wanted another that wasn't a pure bell. We wanted to keep some heat in, which effectively reduces the load for the load calculations. But the heat exchanger increases it. We insulated down the back because we didn't want a completely four-sided structure; we only wanted to lose heat out of the front. So, a lot of the calculations were pretty approximate. It's not perfect, but I don't think the presence of soot immediately means the whole thing is totally wrong. It just means sometimes you're not getting full combustion. Hope this helps!

I really feel you trying to organise such a small space, I raised 5 children in a caravan just a little larger than your own..but we had no vermin free storage space outside either..for the mold ofcourse everything must be kept dry warm and ventilated,not easy when it rains! For hard to get to spaces,fill a sock with woodbased cat litter,it helps soak up any condensation..ofcourse you need to check and renew once in a while. Also the little dehumidifier gel boxes you can find in the Chinese shops here help too.

Thank you so much Fiona ❤️🙏❤️ You are our hero! Living with 5 kids in a caravan 😲 sounds really intense. Great tips as well. The ventilation is sometimes hard as you say. After three days of rain and mist everything just feels damp. We use ceramic stones (made from silica) in the wardrobe to absorbe the moist and dehumidifier under the beds. We’ll try the socks filled with woodbased cat litter 👍 The most difficult area is our (still) open kitchen. We love wooden spoon’s but they turn black already after some days. We turned to using more stainless steel and some things are made from plastic 🫣 Luckily that will change after our final kitchen is built. We are curious, what is your living situation at the moment? Still out in nature? Sending love your way ❤️

3200 without everyone inside? Add the humans and a full tank of fuel..glad you made it..please though,this number is not just for fun. Its the braking capacity of the vehicle fully loaded..being over can be deadly,is it worth the risk? Ps..I think the weight for thar vehicles allowance is 3.5t..in which case you were just on the limit,allowing for yourself and fuel/water etc.
