Truly sad is the fate of the California Theater. I've been watching it dissipate from neglect and vandalism since I moved to San Diego in 1985. As I watched it turn to ruin, I kept hoping that, surely, someone would save it. Alas, after over 40 years of desecration, I understand there's not much left to preserve. I read that it's now destined for demolition. It's truly sad to allow our architectural treasures to go to ruin. There are so few left. I hope there will be a renewed interest in saving and restoring the precious structures that remain.

The history perverters are controlling this narrative. Go see the place for yourself. The majesty of the unadultarated structures shatters all the BS narratives. These are ancient structures with modern facades.

I stayed at the St.James Hotel a number of times between the years 1998 to 2001. It was always a pleasant experience. The elevators were an added delight. If you enjoy historical places as I do, I think you'll enjoy staying at the St.James.

Beautiful depot. I took the train out of here on my way home after training at the Navla Training Center in 1960. It was a great start to a most enjoyable and memorable trip. I took a number of photos of the depot at the time.

I have a coin from 1935 San Diego. On one side it has the ford v8 logo and San Diego California 1935. On the other side it just says ford and the date. Does anyone know anything about it? Why they gave them out? Who they were given to? Thanks!

I toured the depot back in the early 90's and thoroughly enjoyed it. Such attention to detail - and the quality of the construction was still obvious many years later.

I’m trying to figure out if this was a hotel we installed fire alarms in back in the early 90s. I recall street elevators out front that had a large metal cover. Inside the hotel I remember old elevators, then there was a downstairs section crews broke into and I took a peak, seemed to be some sort of shopping areas, and in the back was a large room, the roof was caved in, and there appeared to be a fire. Just wondering if this was the place.

The Console is part of a Maas-Rowe Grand Symphonic Carillon. You can either record your musical sequences and place them on Mitsubishi Melcards, save them into the Maas-Rowe MPR1, MPR2, CD25 or DCP (Digital Chrono Player). You can also play musical selections *live* from this console. The automatic operations of the Carillon for the Westminster chimes clock a Maas-Rowe DCB3 (Digital Chronobell III), which can also operate the MPR1/MPR2, CD25 or DCP. Please do some research.

We tear everything down instead of saving and preserving our past. The new modern buildings are junk with all lack of character. It’s sad we don’t care more.

Was that scene where they're sharing the wine filmed at the house or a studio? Also, I'm fairly certain that the kitchen where Cruise enters thru the side door (the door with a window on both sides) no longer exists. It was at the very back of the house @ 1:31, and the only interior part of the house used in the film. It looks to me like it may have been a separate apartment, added onto the main house at a later time. With no architectural value, it was probably slated for demolition in order to return the house to it's former glory. Later videos show this back section completely removed.

There were two old theaters we used to go to in the early 1990’s. One was in the heart of Hillcrest, and used to show double features of previously released movies. The other was just north of Balboa Park, and was built in the Egyptian style that was popular in SoCal in the 1920’s. They were both built as vaudeville theaters, then later repurposed as movie cinemas. Unfortunately, both had their guts ripped out and were redeveloped as retail stores in the late 1990’s. I can’t find any info about either of them on the Internet.

I have very fond memories of Balboa Park growing up in San Diego in the 80s and 90s. The Ford BLDG is now the science center. I even had several school field trips to the various places and museums and open air theatre and zoo there!
