BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES: I worked at tactile for a year, they have HORRIBLE management and ownership and consistently produce a VERY inconsistent product, screws not flush, surface imperfections, and sometimes knives with occasional lock files will still get sent out (I remember tons of returns for lockfails). The cerekote knives regularly have small chips and they would knowingly send them out to customers anyway, forcing the customer to decide if the imperfection is worth the hassle of a return. THIS COMPANY IS TRASH

@6:25 if you seperate back (open up)part of liner insert a screwdriver shaft between liner and scale and slowly push shaft towards lanyard, it should just pop free.

I certainly can't know what any particular person knows or doesn't know. I'm of the opinion that if you are taking apart the Manix at all, a replacement ball cage is worth it, but there's nothing at all wrong with the OG plastic! The liner delete is also fun. Anyway, thanks for watching!

Interesting test and results. Not knowing the Rockwell hardness of either is most likely where the true difference lies. The Rat may be 61-63 hrc and the Redout may only be 58-60 hrc. As a knife guy who collects all kinds, I've found that the composition of the steel frequently means far less than the hardness does. Thanks for the test footage, well done!

Thanks for watching, your feedback, and encouragement! I agree hardness and edge geometry make a huge difference! I'd love to be able to test this with the same knife from the same maker in the same HRC range, but these were the 2 knives I had 🤣

Hello. I would like to ask you a question: I used to have the AD 10, and its liners were made of aluminum. In the AD 20.5 and yours, the liners are made of steel, but I don't know what type of steel. Do you think it's necessary to apply any oil to this part? I'm not referring to the part of the liners that face the scales, as those are protected, but to the part facing the blade
@olbubs
@olbubs 3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what the composition is but I think it's pretty corrosion resistant. I'm sure it would rust if you dropped it in salt water but for regular pocket time I'd doubt oil is necessary.

Yeah that’s a miss for me. For that price you should be 100% satisfied. That’s a major reason why I avoid cross bar locks especially on high end knives, just never have had a detent on one that I like. My closest is the s90v/carbon mini freek, but I’m sure the small thin blade helps with that

A little late but you should do some durability tests. You can do a budget knife vs a high quality one You can also use the quality knife for another video like resharpening or swapping scales, or just a complete rebuild. That way everyone can see the difference between quality How to clean and fix a knife And some cool mods I'm a big fan of the benchamde Osborne 940 Maybe do a video comparing the blades and durability of the locking mechanism with a cheaper "knock off" Hope this helps good luck. -Sergey K

Tougher than s30v with better edge retention so really batoning should be no issue. Edge geometry makes a huge difference though a convex 20-25 degree will take a lot more abuse than a really fine edge.

I recently got the benchmade saddle mountain skinner for fishing and hunting, but I was hoping to also use it as a general camping knife more often than that. Will it do fine at that job or should I get something stronger like the anonymous?
@olbubs
@olbubs 6 ай бұрын
If you have the S30V saddle mountain it'll handle general stuff pretty well. If it's the S90V version it'll probably be a bit chippy for bush crafty tasks

@@olbubs Oh wow thank you for the fast response, yeah I have the S30V steel one. I've just been second guessing myself for if I should have gotten the benchmade anonimus instead as I plan on camping more than fishing/hunting. I do have a mini adamas which could possibly do some more of the heavy lifting, I'm just second guessing if I should trade it in for a anonimus or not. I really do love the design, feel, and weight on the skinner but I just worry about it's practicality.
@olbubs
@olbubs 6 ай бұрын
@@tylerwroblewski2716 personally I wouldn't worry about the S30V skinner not holding up. Cruwear is definitely a tougher steel but you sacrifice corrosion resistance significantly. For a reference point the benchmade bushcrafter is an S30V knife, thicker blade stock yes but plenty tough. Your edge angle probably came from the factory a little steep for general camping use but I'd just use the edge on it and then sharpen to somewhere between 20-25 degrees at your first sharpening. If you are set on wanting the anonimous you can just go for it too! Both are great knives! Heck get both at some point 🤣
@tylerwroblewski2716
@tylerwroblewski2716 6 ай бұрын
 @olbubs Haha thank you so much for the advice, you made me feel a lot more confident in the knife. I think I'ma use the skinner as my edc fixed blade in general and camping, and just used the adamas for anything rough. Might pick up the anonimus in the future though since it would be to cool to have a really big workhorse like that. Thanks for everything, you easily earned a sub!

Definitely the "long way" but I prefer cleaning all the parts while swapping. Also the pivot has to come out completely to swap the 2nd side. Flytanium makes a tool that holds everything together while the pivot is out to do the swap faster. I featured that tool in my bugout video, but truth be told I prefer the long way that really only takes me 10 minutes or so when not on camera and trying to explain the steps. Thanks for watching!!
