At age 9, when we ran out of Sassafras root, I drove my dad crazy, begging him to take me to the woods to dig a new supply. At his wits end, he finally capitulated, and off we went, shovel in hand. I learned several lessons from that day. #1 - don't dig your Sassafras roots too close to Poison Ivy. I developed Poison Ivy down my throat, throughout my sinuses, completely covering my face. My school had to use my yearbook photo from the previous year, my face appearing so scary. #2 - If you wish to make yourself completely immune to Poison Ivy, enact #1. I can roll in the stuff even now at age 69. Now, my Old Man was raised on an Indian reservation in Washington state where, as a youth, his Native American peers held him down and force-fed him Poison Ivy leaves, intentionally rendering him immune. What I'm saying here, I will not know this side of eternity whether or not the Old Man did the Sassafras gag intentionally or by happenstance. Albeit, every word above is the truth as I witnessed. Was a different age.

Very informative video!!! 👏 My son is severely allergic to poison ivy, so my great uncle told me there was a tree native to Texas that you use the bark to make a tea and it makes you immune to poison ivy. Unfortunately he couldn't remember the name of the tree. He knew a lot of Native Americans growing up in this area and learned natural remedies. That tree could become invaluable if we could figure it out!!!!
