Big thanks for this video. I thought I knew how to do it, this confirmed it. I did a few things differently to speed the process. - I didn't bother removing solder with the copper weave first. - I clipped all accessible posts from the jack. - I desoldered each post individually to pull them through. - I used a blade style iron to get the two posts and positive lug through all at once. - I used a dremel with a fine (around 0.1mm) drill bit to clean the excess solder from the holes. I would not advise this unless you are experienced with it already. All in all, not a bad repair job to do.

You have a couple of options. The part number is on the board itself, so you can get it there if you take it apart. If not, you should be able to search using the model number. For example, search "Dell 1566 power button" on eBay or Amazon.

Isn't it true that if it's just a loose jack, resoldering should be sufficient to secure it? Why remove and put a new jack on? IT's frustrating they don't address this issue -- this has been a problem with laptops for decades. Macs for a while had a magnetic connection which was great, but they did away with it.

Hey there! I'm new to troubleshooting laptops. I was wondering which part of this mobo contains the starter pins since mine's power switch is acting up. Would it be somewhere in the keyboard plugin since the keyboard has the power button? Regardless im wondering how to jump it because i cant find the startup pins youd find on a tower motherboard.
@pomeroypowerjackrepair2 ай бұрын
@@BevvRatBites Hi! Laptops don't have jumper pins like a traditional desktop. it's a keyboard based power button and it isn't powering on?
@BevvRatBites2 ай бұрын
@@pomeroypowerjackrepair Yes, Im looking to get around the button and try sending the signal to the motherboard directly. It actually looks identical to the laptop opened up in the video! Ive tried most of the fixes, mostly substituting the power accesories and doing a full discharge. Now im looking at the power button. I actually did some research and I think shorting some of the keyboard plugin (that you unplugged from in the video) pins can do the same as a desktops pins. Seen some videos of people doing it with similar plugins but on different brands of laptop.
@BevvRatBites2 ай бұрын
@@pomeroypowerjackrepair I guess I should tell the story: Basically I had to beg the laptop to turn on. Having to press the power button upwards of like 60 times before it decided to turn on and perform perfectly, even being good to restart. It got slower every time and stopped being fixed by holding the button. So i just started restarting it every day for a few weeks to avoid ever shutting it down. Last night it was accidentally shut down and hasnt been able to turn back on, even after repeatedly pressing the power button for like 10 minutes as i assumed would work as it had before. Ive completely disassembled and re assembled it with no clearly visible component damage, ive verified the charger works on other laptops, pretty much my only suspects remaining are the battery and the power button itself.

By the way, may I ask why the heat is so high? I’ve heard lead-free melts at around 210-230c usually but they use wave soldering which apparently makes it more difficult aswell, is it because of how quickly the board wicks heat away from the solder?
