Hi! I am a student at ASU taking HCD 300 as my last class. I am struggling like I never have before. There are several professors who provide the videos for the class and I have such a hard time focusing and learning from them. However, I always learn something from yours, especially when you go on little side stories like you did in this one about D.A.R.E back in high school. So thank you for helping my ADHD brain and providing some hope that I may be able to survive this class.

So this is super random and off-topic to your video but I feel like you'll enjoy this: Pythagoras's cult practiced a vegetarian diet, however, it was a real no-no to eat fava beans because they believed fava beans contained the reincarnated souls of humans. This meant that the consumption of fava beans was tantamount to cannibalism (probably also because they have such a "fleshy" texture.) So, I think in Silence of the Lambs when Hannibal talks about eating fava beans and having a nice chianti he's actually making a historical joke because he (probably) would have known this weird fact (and known most people wouldn't get it.) Anyways, thanks for the video, it's helping me with my course. Cheers!

Good video! Except with it being frozen the whole time, we cannot see any pictures/graphics you're showing us. Also, when you start the speech science slide is when the audio keeps cutting out for the rest of the video which makes it hard to understand anything you're saying. Good video besides these things.

Quick question 🙋‍♀️ I’m also a SLP and was wondering if your presentation is on any CEU website. I had 2 concussions, minutes apart, on July 27th. It is quite interesting & enlightening being on the opposite side of “normal”.

You're not the first person to ask that. I'll check with Arizona State University and see if we have a way to offer our courses as CEUs and get back to you. I hope you've recovered from the effects! But you're right, it does give you a very different perspective to have experienced it firsthand.

Hi @kristopherpatten, I have watched some of your videos as I am new to psychoPY and trying to improve my understanding of the coder programme, in particular how to do ‘if statements’ correctly and I would appreciate your solving this code. Currently, the “if statement” (lines 3-8) tells the participant the response was correct if they press the correct key, but otherwise the feedback is ambiguous (incorrect / too long). I want to add in new conditional statements (elif) to tell the participant when they made an incorrect response. And change the feedback so that it only tells the participant they took too long if 5 seconds have passed. Any help with adding this code in would be greatly appreciated Below is the code win.flip() key = event.waitKeys(maxWait=5,keyList=[‘b’,‘r’]) # waits for either an r or b key to be pressed. If 5 seconds pass, then it moves on without a response if key == ['b'] and stimOn == 'blue': # if the key pressed was b and the stimulus presented was blue feedback.text = "Correct!" elif key == ['r'] and stimOn == 'red': # if the key pressed was r and the stimulus presented was red feedback.text = "Correct!" else: feedback.text = "Incorrect / too long!" feedback.draw() win.flip() core.wait(2) win.flip() core.wait(0.2)

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. I think I'd have to have this in front of me to debug it (I'm not the best coder). Head over to discourse.psychopy.org/ and there are people much better with the intricacies of code components than I am. They answer questions fairly quickly and thoroughly.
