Yes there is only one bolt holding it to the timing cover actually the oil pump which is built into the timing cover but there are three bolts total that hold the pickup to to the bottom of the engine and all three have to be removed to get the pickup tube out and the timing cover loose
@RikJames-dg1hd2 ай бұрын
U can lower the pan and reach in with a wrench to get that bolt

Fix mine on the 99 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 l6
@johndayberry63664 ай бұрын
I have a 1999 Jeep WJ with the 4.0L engine. Have been troubleshooting for days. Engine runs very bad, very weak spark on 2,3,4, and 5. No spark on 1 and 6. Haven't owned it very long. My thoughts are someone replaced the Coil Pack and didn't change the wiring. The hot wire on the plug is on Pin 3. Haynes manual shows it to be on Pin 2. Would that verify the plugs needs to be rewired like your video shows? Thanks.

What about rod composition? Mine are GM powdered metal, can they take the heat?
@jamminmechanics5 ай бұрын
Probably wouldn't recommend it if they're powdered and not cast steel. Definitely research it and see. Typically powder-cast sintered rods don't have pressed wrist pins, rather full float with brass bushings. The wrist pin is held in the piston with snap rings. Something to note is the temperatures involved with tempering or sintering is significantly higher than what's needed to remove and install new wrist pins
@mariocooldude90925 ай бұрын
@@jamminmechanics I was under the impression that all modern GM factory rods were powdered metal and the press fit type
@jamminmechanics5 ай бұрын
Older stuff perhaps, but a lot of newer GM products are all full float. I think they're big engines are still old school press fit though

Does it get louder when you accelerate??
@jamminmechanics5 ай бұрын
No, constant whistle. Does not change under driving conditions except maybe going away (or at least can't be heard) when flooring the pedal. This is likely due to fuel flow through the regulator changing enough to alter the tone to inaudible

My daughter bought a used '07 with the 3.7 inline 5 with ~140,000 miles. Had all the maintenance records but less than 2 months into the purchase the engine jumped time, smoked one of the pistons as well as some valves. Needed a new head, timing chain kit, ec. and so on ended up spending ~$6700 on repairs. Wow, never knew of such a pricy rebuild, and no one had a reman (Jasper among others). Maybe should have pursued the 5.3 option?? Anywho, hopefully she will NOW get many years out of it, but was quite disappointed as I have had a number of vehicles easily make it 140,000 with zero engine issues (GM 2.2, 3.4, 6.0, Dodge 2.2, 3.9, Ford 4.9, Jeep 4.0 (BEST one of the mix), Ford 4.0, Subaru 2.5).

Thanks for all the videos and explaining everything. Now I know what I'm getting myself into. We have a 2014 Santa Fe Limited 3.3L with 130k miles. My wife just informed me earlier today that the AWD Warning Light was illuminated and the AWD system isn't working. She also said that she heard a loud noise while reversing the day before. We've been experiencing temps as low as -15F recently, so that probably helped with the failure. Now I have to decide if I want to spend a couple hundred dollars in parts or 1k for a used transmission. Might be time to trade it in too. I have the tools and knowledge to do the repair, but I don't turn wrenches as much as I used to.

I'm looking forward to there being ONE bolt somewhere on the bell housing that keeps me from lifting this engine out.... The whole Atlas Series is about that ONE freakin' bolt that you can't get to without removing the rest of the vehicle!
@HouseCallAutoRepair9 ай бұрын
EVERY major part of the Atlas Series has at least ONE bolt that can't be reached without pulling off another major part, that won't come off because there is at least ONE bolt that can't be reached....etc! Not super hard, but super annoying and time consuming! (4, 5, and 6 cylinder engine are the same design) AND... Watch out for the models with the chain drive in the rear, for the balance shafts!!! Another win!
