NOTE: Cheap wheel bearings will have a little play in them, even when properly tightened. This is normal from these as its a vary small amount and doesn't damage the seal

I bought cheap wheel bearings and retainers and I'm hearing/feeling a very small amount of play like you mentioned. Should I be looking into replacing it again soon or is it not something to worry about?

That's What My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo quadra Track 2 4.0 l6 engine with High/Low, With a 4 inch lift and 33inch ×12.5 R17s Is doing. I'm Surprised It isn't leaking fluid,And very surprised the wheels didn't fall off, Great Video, Short And To The Point,Fix It Tomorrow, I Have Only 1 Issue Because I've Replaced Everything Possible lol,Happy Trails From Niagara Falls Ontario Canada.

Great video! My advice to the retainer plate. Don't mess around, Can get the kit at low cost, bearing, sleeve, seal, and plate all for under $70s

in my 96 jeep i have the dana 44 with the 226mm axle 30 spline. and the bearing has to be slammed out with a slame tool. and you have to pull the diff cap to get the 1/4 inch 12point bolt out of the spider gear retainer area. to get the clip off. to get the axle to slid rite out at first.

I got lucky I guess, changed the drivers side last fall, 8k miles later still good. Doing the passenger side now, seal isnt leaking but it wiggles back and forth.... I will be checking the retainer though for sure...

Use a dremmel, thinner kerf, smaller radius, easier to handle. Quicker too

Thank you very much on sharing! Same here, it cost me 2 bearing sets. With the final assembly i got a big backlash on the wheels. I was already doubting my skills...... This video is confirming my suspect on the retainer plate. How about buying new ones? Or will they have the same issue? Please let me know.

Sorry for the delay. I've yet to have problems with new retaining plates. Some brands have even thicker steel so they don't bend as easily

Retainer plates? Yeah, they're typically fine. Be careful with which bearings you use those. Get nicer ones with a warranty

Napa sells a different style of bearing. its a caged unit and heavier duty. That little seal trying to hold that tapered stock bearing in the housing failed on our 2000 jeep cherokee. after I replaced the bearing. I had to use a slide hammer puller to remove the axle. Why was that? it goes back together no problem. I suspect jeep used lock tight on the axle splines when they assembled the rear ends before they added the rear end lube. So my first attempt at axle seal and bearing replacement quickly failed. So a trip to NAPA and I bought a caged bearing a one piece bearing assembly that pressed on the axle and fit snug in the housing. After seeing how its made and assembled from the factory. I bought two of the better heavy duty NAPA bearings and changed them both. Now im not a novice. Im 70 years old and worked as a diesel and gas mechanic back in the day. Ive rebuilt auto transmissions and diesel trans and rear ends ect.
