I still don’t understand why the ADV style bike is so popular. They’re so heavy, they can’t be taken off road by the majority or riders. They’re essentially road bike, so why don’t manufacturers make road focussed, fully faired bikes anymore? (I’m not talking about Harley baggers, which in my opinion look absolutely ridiculous.)
@Yo-KenКүн бұрын
I can see why some may think the big adventure bikes seem pointless. For me I don't consider it a heavy bike at 550lbs. Now your typical bagger that comes in at 850lbs plus is a heavy bike. The big adventure bikes are like a swiss army knife. Not the best at everything, but it can do most things very well. BMW has the the RT and K1600, both fully faired, but not bikes I would want to take on a trail, and they are a pain to service as I do my own. For me its the platform, easy to maintain because its not fully faired. It still offers great touring with very good wind protection. It handles like a sport bike but rides like a luxury SUV. Lots of power and comfort... it a win all around. I do know where you are coming from. When I bought my first GS, I was shopping for different bike. I had no interest in a adventure bike. The dealer said take the GS for a ride, I really wasn't interested, but said what the hell. I was blown away how it could do everything so well.

Hey Ken, fellow NC rider here! I’m about to purchase my second bike and the Striple has always been a bike I’ve fawned over. Have you had any issues with yours? Would you recommend it? I’m sort of split between the Striple and the MT-09
@Yo-Ken4 күн бұрын
Only issue I had was the bike would stall when coming to a stop, only happened a few times. It hasn't happened in the last 5000 miles. The stalling started when I change the exhaust. I think it causes a lean condition. Other than that is been great. Both bikes are very good, but I like the looks of the triple better. The dash on the Triple doesn't look as good as the MT09. Both have similar power but deliver it in a different way. The Triple is linear, very smooth more power at the higher rpm. The MT09 has more torque and you feel it at the low end... I wheelie monster for sure. I am biased, the Triple is what I recommend.

@RogersMotorcycleAdventures8 күн бұрын
I did a video on this exact same subject - I think a big part of the pushback against the 1300 is simply there's a group of 1250-1200 owners feel a little left behind by this bike, so they want to trash it. A part of me feels for them, but this is the GS that BMW had to build to get me on a GS. If they'd come out with just another iteration of the 1200/1250, I almost certainly would have bought the Multistrada, instead. I'm glad this is the way they went, though, because the 1300 is the perfect bike for me.

Hi Ken. Well, I just got a 2020 Exclusive (new to me) just like your old one and had been on a 2002 Oil Head GS prior to that, so the 1250 is still the Cat's Meow for me. At any rate, I think that the 1300 is a bit less "edgy" looking and more refined in many respects. Some folks like it, some don't. Your points on "evolution" are well taken. Some folks are reticent to accept it but everything is relative. I find myself still getting used to how advanced my 2020 is over my Oilhead and it's 5 years old! I think I will ride my Exclusive for 4 more years until I retire and then upgrade to the 1300 (maybe it will be a 1350 by then - LOL). By the way, How do you like the Anakees? I think I'll go with those or the classic Metzeler Tourances when I get new sneakers in the spring.

Dude, love your GS. It looks great. I have a Street Triple RS that I love, but thinking about trading it in for the 1300 GS. Mine would be primarily for road use too. I just want the extra comforts for longer rides and trips. My only fear is that the GS wont get my adrenaline pumping like the ST. Are you satisfied with the performance of the GS? If you could only keep one, ST or GS, which one would you keep? Really enjoyed your video. I would build mine out similar to yours.
@Yo-Ken18 күн бұрын
@TheRealChetManley i will answer your last question first... without a doubt, if I could only have one bike, it would be the GS. As far as adrenaline pumping... the only thing the GS lacks is the Triple sound. Power and handle is just as good, it just delivers it in a different way. And if you like to whewlie, it will do it at the drop of a hat. You need to ride one to understand how this bike performs. It gets a bad rap as a Starbucks ride. I'm a sport bike guy, and I would give them all up if I could only have one... GS all the way. In my case, I get to keep my Triple and FZ1... so I get to enjoy them all.

I can luckily say I drove the GS, the 1290 KTM, and a bunch of other bikes, including (electric) motorcross bikes. The AT 1100 DCT is by far the most fun for me. As a foreigner, I live in Portugal, where they have great routes on and off road. But they have horrible drivers and bad road quality, on the other hand they have beautiful scenery. That combi is a recipe for disaster. Now I enjoy my rides (drive quite aggressively when alone) and I love the DCT. And can really focus on actual driving. This is the future. Learn how to drive it properly, and you're way faster than the rest. Plus if you have a passenger you won't be bumping any helmets anymore. The Africa Twin standard with DCT is great! Just saying..... And if you think it is like a scooter, well......it isn't. After our emigration here, during the pandemic, I could not find any new bike anywhere. So we bought a Forza (scooter) all do we had allot of fun and even did groseries with the thing, it does not come close to the experience you will have on the Twin DCT.
@Yo-Ken24 күн бұрын
@mwlmobiel I understand why some may like it but... When I road a dct Africa Twin I felt disconnected from the bike. As far as it being way faster than the rest, I was not impressed with the acceleration at all. From a dead stop or a roll, it did not compare to my old 1250. My 1300 or the KTM and Ducati will easily outrun the dct. The dct does not fit my riding style, not even close. No disrespect, but you can have it.

@mwlmobiel It wasn't from a dealer, it was a friend's bike. It was in sport mode. He is an aggressive rider, and it was setup that way. We did switch bikes when I had 1250, he said the 1250 had a lot more torque, felt a lot faster. You can't tell me the dct felt as quick as the KTM 1290, that's a beast. Anyway, I get why some may like it... I just think it's like driving a car, and that's the last thing I want when riding a bike.
@mwlmobiel24 күн бұрын
@@Yo-Ken sure 100 HP is not comparable to the 160+ some bike make. But as for me the usable power in traffic, the mountains and twistees the DCT is on another level. Especially the 2024 model. Totally agree about the difference in shifting - I have the Option 719 version, which has an aluminum shifter (made by Gilles, who sells an aluminum aftermarket shifter, as well as making the 719 hardware), and the 1300 that I test rode had the plastic/composite shifter. The aluminum shifter is a subtle, but noticeable difference. I've also noticed that the quickshifter has gotten a lot smoother after I had put probably 1,500 km on the bike. It'll never be as smooth as the best ones, but it's more than good enough for me.
