On average, how long do the Duralast coils last?
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 9 күн бұрын
My first set of Duralast coils lasted 130,623 miles. My second set only lasted 31,265 miles. My third set lasted 78,337 miles. So my Duralast coils experienced an average life of 80,075 miles.

Does the car have to be hot cold or warm ?
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 14 күн бұрын
Ideally, start out with a cold engine/transmission. I only ran my engine long enough to drive it up onto the ramps so I could get a floor jack under it, then added rear jack stands to level the car. The ATF will warm up quick enough to trigger the dash light that will tell you when to begin draining off the excess ATF. This service cannot be properly performed if the ATF is too warm.

Did I hear you say, “ Over 600,000 miles.”? Wow! How often do you change your timing belt? I changed mine at 120,000 miles. The new belt tensioner went bad about 25,000 miles into it. It was a lifetime warranty so they sent a whole new kit. So I did another full replacement bearings, idler pulley, belt and of course the belt tensioner ( didn’t replace the water pump again). I really enjoy your videos!

I have the same model. Did a full brake job. A few weeks ago. Your car is super clean and well- maintained like mine. Just an FYI… I did a lot of research before I did what I’m getting ready to describe. The transmission went out about 50,000 miles with the previous owner. As I’m sure you’re aware, there was a recall on the transmission. Dealer replaced it with a new one. I bought the car shortly thereafter. At about 70,000 miles I inspected the transmission fluid (old Honda mineral based) it was pretty dark. My local Honda dealer still had a case left.. they wanted around $20 a quart! I said no thanks. I ended up changing the fluid to the Valvoline multi-vehicle full synthetic. The procedure was .. drain 3 quarts and add 3 quarts..drive about 50 miles manually shifting through all of the gears. Repeat that process until you have pure red Valvoline ATF. The difference in shifting and quietness was astounding! It was like a different, better performance transmission! Now I do a drain 3 quarts and add 3 quarts every 3rd oil change. I have nearly 160,000 miles on it now. Still running great! No regrets! I just wanted to share that with you since I’ve been helped by watching your videos. Thanks again!

Is this the same as head gasket replacement???
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 29 күн бұрын
No. I have not had to change a head gasket on this car. This video is only removing the valve covers. The head itself holds the cam shaft and valves. You would remove the head and replace that gasket if you are replacing valves or if you have a blown head gasket. In that case, you would have coolant in your oil and it would look like a milkshake or you would have white smoke billowing out your exhaust if your are burning your coolant in the cylinders.

Academy Award winning documentary for fixing a water leak in a trunk. With my own 2000 Acura 3.2TL I've had water on my drivers floor and in my trunk for many years and had no idea where it was coming from. Last week I fixed a lose drain hose from the sun roof down to the drivers wheel well and that leaked stopped and I let the carpet dry and and I'm replacing some carpet this week. This week I will fix the leak in the trunk using this award winning trunk water leak video. I watched this video closely and took a lots of tips down on 13 pages with screen shots from this terrific video and I will fix it this week even if I need 2 rear light gaskets or anything else.Thanks a million for your amazing detailed high quality video with clear high quality soundtrack. You are a PRO at making this video. Thanks a Million.

Hi John, trying to be like you but with my 2006 TL 5AT base in Alabaster Silver. I like your oil filter choice. I am using the Ultra version on my TL. I am having P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304 pending misfires under load of 3K RPM or more. the flashing light only tends to appear under wide open throttle or holding the engine at 3K or more for a multiple misfire cycles. I have replaced plugs, coils, timing belt kit, pcv, cleaned egr, repaired and oil leak into the spark plug tube seals prior to replacing the plugs, all genuine parts, ive done swaptronics and the misfires do not move, compression is good, i’m stumped. im thinking its my injectors

Video is alittle long but for someone who really wants to learn with zero knowledge, this is perfect. If you are used to older cars with a dip stick, it does take a little getting used to. Once you understand the design, and the service process, it will make sense that the fluid level will be set at the right temperature, then plug it.

I charge/maintain/desulfate while the battery is still connected to the car. If you disconnect the battery, you will lose a lot of pre-sets like Window indexing, radio stations, smog check readiness, etc. This is only 1 AMP at 12 volts. Would this charger be compatible with a 2013 F150 3.5 EcoBoost truck?
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 2 ай бұрын
It should. It has less to do with the make or model of the vehicle and everything to do with the type of battery. This will work with all traditional 12 volt flooded (lead-acid and water) batteries used for Starter, Lights, and Ignition (SLI), 12 volt maintenace free batteries, and all 12 volt Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. It works on marine, and deep-cycle batteries. Also, works with traditional 6 volt batteries (like they used to put in cars 60+ years ago). I won't get into vehicles that have start/stop engine technology batteries, or hybrid batteries.

Hi I replaced the Trunk Supports from Lexus and when I press the Trunk Release it only goes up a few inches ?Any thoughts ?
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 2 ай бұрын
The trunk lid on this car is not designed to open fully at the push of a button. It is only supposed to pop the trunk up about a half inch so it is unlatched, then you have to lift it up by hand. Bad struts will make it hard to unlatch the trunk lid after pushing the release button on the dash over and over. That is when you know you need new lift support struts.

Beware of counterfeit (fake) auto parts on eBay and Amazon. I just went down to my local AutoZone and paid the $128.94 + sales tax, for a total of $140.22 for six genuine Denso Iridium spark plugs. I will post detailed photos in my next video of how I identified the fake spark plugs. The tip on my original plugs and the new Denso plugs from AutoZone both had the tiny nipple protruding down from the tip, which I thought was old-age damage to my plugs. This is missing from the tip of the fake plugs and also the font of the green writing on the fake plugs is slightly off. The mechanic details of my video are perfectly good, just ignore the savings with online market place counterfeit parts. The low price was too good to be true. Today, I am removing the fake plugs after only driving 2-miles and installing genuine/authentic Denso spark plugs from the local AutoZone. If the smallest piece of a fake plug comes off inside the combustion chamber, it can damage the engine and may even destroy the engine by damaging the cylinder walls, the piston, or damage the valves.

How do you know if you need a valve adjustment? My TL type s 2002 milage is around 160000 and how do I know if needed? Thank you!
@JohnsGarage
@JohnsGarage 4 ай бұрын
The service manual recommends checking and adjusting the valve clearance every 105,000 miles, or sooner if they become noisy. If the valve covers, or the spark plug seals, are leaking oil, that would also be a good time to check the valve clearance while you have the valve covers off to replace the rubber seals.
