I feel they cast because of big names that would attract audience instead of vocal capacity. I hate when musicals are mostly spoken rather than sang

I will also say that in addition to Cosette, Marius, and Eponine performing very well, the other members of the barricade (les amis) did pretty well (at least imo though take it with a grain of salt). Aaron Tveit is amazing (last i heard he was playing sweeney todd on broadway), and George Blagden is one of the top four Grantaires ever imo (it helps that he explicitly played Grantaire as in love with Enjolras which not only is hilarious but also really makes the character shine). sorry for the incomprehensible amount of parentheses lmao.

No because I love this movie, but I first heard of it in middle school choir and asked my teacher if that guy was a bad singer and she said no 10:48. I than asked if like compared to the other singers in the movie if he was bad or something because something sounded off AT LIT THE POINT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, and got embarrassed when she’s like everyone’s a good singer and he’s singing great

It’s kind of like what some of us have been saying for years, live music and recorded music are two different mediums.

The first time I watched the film I thought it was pretty good. To be fair, I knew nothing about the musical before it so there's that. In conclusion, The film is a good movie musical if you know absolutely nothing about any other adaptation of the music in any way shape or form.

The bagpipes being set up to represent otherness or something alien when Hiccup first meets Toothless, and then being brought back when the vikings capture Toothless while showing a close-up of Hiccup, showing his feeling of isolation from his people and his connection with Toothless, how Toothless is more familiar to him than is own father is just... wow... genius, complete genius

method acting is harmful and usually does not make sense at all. but method singing? i have heard the craziest things in the musical theatre scene, but NEVER heard of NOT drinking water. usually performers are a walking full bladder.

“A random girl that he doesn’t even end up with” We don’t really know that within the context of this movie though.

Damn, the plot to Home on the Range sounds like something you’d expect Don Bluth to cook up.

I mainly hated how they took out the character developments of the other characters, like the three guys. I can't remember their name, but I do remember they made Shang look and feel like the funny guy

LOL I remember the only time I ever fell asleep in the middle of a movie was from years ago watching Beauty and the Beast remake in the theatre. The acting, singing, production, literally everything about this film was top tier asmr material to me

I want to add that the actors are badly miscast. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman are too young to play their prospective roles, or appear that way. Oh, dear God, best musical ever was ruined. I hope in time someone will find the backing to remount a better version, but like South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Mame and Hello, Dolly, that will probably never happen. Hollywood will almost always go for “names” over talent.

I agree completely 100 times over. I tell my friends please don’t watch the movie, it’s so bad. Any version on youtube even by a high school is better. But like you, my Jean Valjean préférable is Alfie Boe.

Coming back to this video years later. There is something magical about all of the sound cut outs around 45 minutes followed by Sideways losing his MIND.
