Can we please STOP apologizing for western culture and or loose sexuality? We haven't seen this kind of uptightness in any generation since The Pilgrims. Are they going to burn us at the stake one day?

love coming back to this video every once in awhile- and something I wanted to point out (which people probably have already), with "sweeneys madness motif" and how its that constant noise in his head or something. In the first song of the musical it states at some point "sweeney heard music that nobody heard" and i think with that line in mind it makes the motif more interesting to me, it tells you about it and then at the end of the song you get to hear it.

Oh man, we could've had it all huh. That sounds amazing and I feel really cheated now. Although, I probably should've expected this kind of creative gutting for other aspects in their world building than the fields in familiar with As a biology nerd, they did exactly the same thing when creating Pandora's native species. It's all just a little to the left of earth ones, or straight up cut + paste and photoshopped a bit The not-horses and not-rhinoceroses aren't terrible, but a lot of the environmental stuff is. Those cool spiral plant things that shloop into the ground when touched? Those are gigantic blown-up individual antenna of the Christmas tree worm, just all colored brown. A lot of the plant life is based on marine life to be quite honest. Probably because so many of them already look "alien" and just figured most people wouldn't notice. It was so jarring to see

Jesus H Christ can we stop celebrating self-harm? Starving is bad. Dehydration for three days is bad. Pushing on and on until you get hurt and risk actual damage is bad. I love Hugh Jackman but seeing him be proud of not drinking water for days made me cringe so damn hard

Why is the horn line in Memory so utterly buried in the mixing? As a horn player, that's deeply offending 😂 Also, it feels like Hooper thinks that the background and orchestral music is secondary to the singing. Like the singing and speaking is where all the emotion comes from and the music is just there to be there.

I guess the brass start playing because Jake, an earthling, is spearheading the Navi army. But I think it would had been more significant is the Brass was mixed with Navi instruments to show that Jake incarnated both of the species best traits.

Personally I feel the real answer can be summed up to this: Disney is terrified of china, and couldn’t make a Mulan that respected their own source material. So in order to get the agreement from china to film on location, they had to also agree to china’s stipulations about the story and how the movie would be made and presented to the global audience. Live action Mulan was essentially a product of Disney and the Chinese communist party. Their values are literally scripted out through the whole movie. Stack that with the fact that Disney signed an agreement to film within miles of the concentration camps and you’ve got a full blown disaster.

The only reason these movies succeed is because a lot of people have a favorable view of nature. That’s it. They don’t even need to love it, just kinda like it. Because that’s all these movies do. You want nature in a screen? Boom there ya go

honestly the one thing that i think they did right was not adding autotune. even if the music was fucked AND they cut two of my FAVORITE songs (drink with me and turning) AT LEAST there was no autotune, which west side story definitely should have done. (and side note: i play bass clarinet and my embouchure is dead after just an hour of nonstop playing. i can’t imagine what those musicians had to go through)

55:26 fun fact! in my high school’s musicals, someone literally almost got a part revoked because they tried to do this. the music teachers at my school have been in the professional music world for longer than my parents have been alive, this is not something that should fly. ever.
