i had my 3070 pop a transistor on the pcie bus lane, was looking and hoping to jump into the 40 series.. but after the limited supply/scalper/paper launch(who knows) of the 50 series, prices on the 4070 have gone crazy and i am thinking i could damn near justify a decent prebuilt with a 4070 as opposed to just trying to find the stand alone gpu..fml.. thanks for all you have done and continue to do sir!

The 5080 is not a compelling value, but that hasn't prevented the card from being sold out everywhere. And retailers have significantly bumped up prices above MSRP to capitalize on the lack of inventory. Scalpers are having a field day with this on eBay.

Installing a game on a HDD doesn't actually affect the framerate once the game is loaded. It'll only affect performance if you have insufficient RAM and the system needs to seek a page file. Although some newer games have procedurally-generated textures that specifically require an SSD to load properly.

I'm still using GTX1080FE and I can't even upgrade. I was going to upgrade when RTX3080 came out but we all know how that went. It was the worst time to buy a GPU thanks to covid and crypto mining. and now that crypt mining is over, nvidia is scalping themselves with over priced GPU and paper launch...

5060 should have 12gb of vram at minimum. Any 70 and up gpu should have 12-16gb and the 80 series should be 16-24 at this point. They charge premium prices even for low end cards. They all deserve a bump in memory already.

Games are being injected with ton of AI-generated assets, but they're still selling them at $60+, even though they've been able to massively shrink their overhead. The only way consumers can oppose this is by voting with their wallet. Don't buy their cards and definitely don't entertain the scalpers. Buy Intel and AMD. That's the only tangible way people can send a clear message. But enterprises are already keeping NVIDIA's bottom line happy, so the concerns of gamers have become an afterthought at this point.

I remember when the GeForce 8800 GTX came out.. it was USD $550 in Sweden and that was the most expensive card available, it was the best graphics card available also and I got it.. it kind of hurt with that price, but it was amazing. I haven't upgraded since my GTX 970, still use it today and it works great - for the games I play. But I will never pay +1000 for a graphics card, that is just insane. People need to take out loans and be in debt just to get ONE graphics card.. and as you say, spend like just as much on the rest of the system.. INSANE!! 😡😡😡😡😡

This is an interesting phenomenon. Why are people so crazy about these cards when in reality they can’t see any or little difference in their games. Monitor upgrade would be a much more notable upgrade for most.

Scalpers will sell 5090s for $4K to $5K US dollars, as well, and people will buy them. People who use these cards to make money can easily and legitimately justify paying that kind of money for a GPU. After all, Jensen did say the 5090 and 5080 are considered GPUs for "professionals". The 5070 and 5070Ti are the new top end gaming cards ... sadly. I'm just gonna hold onto my 7900XTX I think.

NVIDIA can continue to rest on their laurels as long as they are generating the bulk of their revenue from datacenters that are desperate for GPUs to run their AI models. And the people entertaining the scalpers despite the lackluster improvement only incentivizes NVIDIA to continue with their current strategy.
