This might work for slow playing but for faster playing it’s impossible for it not to become a hammer-off and make the string ring open.
@SeanBeavers1
@SeanBeavers1 8 күн бұрын
In my experience, it is difficult but not impossible at a fast tempo. It depends how the finger leaves the string, how sticky the fingertip is, strings used, etc.

ironic that you use an intro that sounds similar to Blackbird, a song iconic for the squeaking you're acting is so taboo

I have never thought of Blackbird as iconic because of the squeaks. I have assumed the squeaks were there because no effort was made to avoid them.

@@SeanBeavers1 it's a song about a bird, and the squeaks sound like birds chirping. if it wasn't intentional, it was quite the fitting accident. willing to bet it's intentional, though, as you hear that same squeaking being done in their live recordings

@SeanBeavers1
@SeanBeavers1 10 күн бұрын
The 3rd finger is the hardest for everyone. I recommend starting small (like 4th to 2nd string) and going slowly. When the 4th to 2nd string feels easier, try 5th to 2nd string. When that feels easier, try 6th to first string.

When I lift my fingers without sliding, it unintentionally makes the strings make a noise though (the string sticks to the pads of my fingers and sort of gets plucked lightly). Is there any way to lessen that?

Good question! Sometimes this happens because the fingertips are a little sweaty. Using a little talcum powder on the fingertips can help with this.

If we are talking about acoustics, I say, if it’s expensive then keep it in a case. If it’s your daily driver then keep it out because it’s a tool. You really don’t need to baby a $500 to $1000 factory made guitar. Now if it’s a 3k+ hand made guitar then take every precaution possible. People getting pretty pretentious about instruments that are made by the thousands every year that they bought from GC or Sweetwater.
@SeanBeavers1
@SeanBeavers1 14 күн бұрын
The cost of the guitar is a definite factor. And if you have an expensive guitar that you keep in the case all the time, I agree with you that it’s good to have a less expensive guitar you can keep out to play regularly.

If cross legged with back support works for you, great! But if putting your feet flat on the floor makes you uncomfortable, I wonder if the chair is the wrong height for you. A good chair height allows your thighs to be parallel to the floor.

The ring and pinky fingers are naturally less independent than the others. As we work to make them more independent, we need to be gentle and take frequent breaks to avoid injury.
