US healthcare is #1 most expensive and one of the worst in the developed world. Life expectancy 4 years shorter than Canada. Half a million medical bankruptcies every year. Something like 60,000 die per year because the high cost deterred them from getting treatment when they needed it. No need to mince words. Most people are aware of this.

I know next to nothing about Hua Hin or the real estate market there but I do see what is happening in SE Asia with westerners, especially, along with Russians, moving to these areas. Hua Hin is likely to rise in price as far as real estate investments are concerned. I would think it a great long-term investment at worst.

As long as you have considered everything and the area you're in is good for your needs for the long term then without doubt future proofing your retirement it's best to buy, lots of people wish they had bought 10 years ago and now their Pensions being swallowed up with inflation...

This is a very good and enlightening video. Truthful yet on point. Philippines is not all Sunshine and butterflies and rainbows as most vloggers would like to project in order to monetize YT. Philippines is not meant for everyone. You have to embrace the cons in order to survive here.

What is it like living in a place where very few people speak your language, Greg?
@whereisgregnow5989
@whereisgregnow5989 23 күн бұрын
Most of the places that have tourist have people from the UK, US and even a lot of people from other countries speak some English. So for me it's not really a problem. But if you are living in Thailand its best to learn the local language. There are many nationalities living in Thailand etcetera. You can't expect Thai people or any other group of people to learn 5 languages. Thanks for that great question

There's plenty of content out there advising people not to buy property in Thailand, with some very good reasons behind it. However in certain situations it completely makes sense as you said, particularly for someone who is sure they will be there for the long haul. Property is still relatively affordable for a lot of westerners moving there and the comparitive low capital growth in recent times will surely change at some point particularly with the visa changes & influx of people of all nationalities. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Baht strengthen against western currencies which is rarely mentioned on those videos focusing on the 'cons'. Nice video & glad to hear your quality of life has improved since moving there, I love Hua Hin too.

Good point my friend but you missed another point. When you are in a country for example thailand you are not spending usd its baht. You just exchange currency and saying 350$ = almost 11000 baht. By the time rent goes up to to 16000 baht usd value goes up too. Reason of inflation is that currency loosing value !!! Beside that retirement means enjoy life with no stress and use investment you did when when you were younger plus your saving , instead of being worried again about investing !!! 😂 with all respect.

Nice vlog - thanks for sharing your numbers. Some advice regarding mobile phone service: Unless you are streaming & uploading HD, or higher quality, video, 24/7, on your phone, you probably do not need unlimited data - esp. if you also have Wi-Fi service where you are living. It should go without saying, but, always connect via Wi-Fi, when at home, or when a public hotspot is available - do not use your 5G (or 4G) connection, when it is not absolutely necessary to do so. Your phone - iPhone or Android - should have a feature that tracks data usage, so use this feature to determine your actual usage, each month. Then, just purchase a monthly, or weekly, pre-paid plan which is sufficient to meet your likely data need. The high-priced plan you mentioned probably included unlimited voice & text, as well. This is generally not useful in Thailand, since many/most Thais use the Line app and do not have voice/text service enabled on their phones. If you do need voice & text, for some reason, then, again, purchase only what you are likely to need and avoid the unlimited plans. Note: This advice also applies in the US. Safe travels!
