Nice Jesse! Great loading vid. As you know, I’ve got TWO 550’s. They’re a great solution for those of us who need more than a single stage, but less than a full progressive with case feeder, etc. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

I've been drinking the Blue Kool-Aid since the early 80's when I bought a SDB in 45acp during my IPSC days, you just can't argue with over 40 years of service without a hitch and for the free safety upgrades and service parts. I have 3 conversion kits for it and as close as I can figure there close to 40,000 rounds through it, nuff said. My brother just got into PRS and against my advice bought a 550c. Don't get me wrong, they are a great press but volume reloading on a progressive is not a great recipe for dime size groups and to justify the cost of a 550c you need to load a lot of rounds. For a quarter of the price I bought a RCBS Rock Chucker for my PRS and Benchrest endeavors besides loading hunting rounds for my family and it easily produces all the ammo we need. My cases get a .002" shoulder bump, are hand primed with a Lee Auto Bench Priming Tool for exact feel, powder is dropped with a Uniflow measure and trickled to the proper weight. Bullets are seated using a Redding micrometer die and with much more work like case prep sub 1/2" groups are produced. The 550 can produce 300 rounds / hour or more and produce quality ammo for hunting or plinking but you have to produce a lot of it to make it worthwhile and it's not IMHO the hot setup for precision shooting. My SDB was around the same cost as the 550 but I was going through 200 rounds per week on average through the season at least so yeah, the cost savings was immense and that machine has paid for itself many times over. Your 550 will also serve you for a lifetime, people just need to understand a progressive's limitations and strengths'.

So I was just looking at the Extreme-bullets website and they presently only have three of these kits so far. I would like to see them do these kits in 308, 357 Mag, 38 Special, 44 Mag, 45 Colt (aka Long Colt) Cowboy, 10mm, 40 caliber, 30-30Win, 30-06 Springfield with an option for M2 ball, 30 Caliber, and more 👍🏻😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

In shotgun shot shells speeds not that important they always pattern the same? Per type of shell/ brand. Once you pattern it you know where to aim at different yardages.

I always used Accurate No. 2, No. 5, No. 7, No.9,..... and lots of Hodgdon Powders,.... IMR 4064, IMR 4198,....Bullseye, Green Dot,... but who can guess what they sell for now,... to buy them now you practically have to register everything you purchase,... unless you get things at Walmart or Dunhams.. and every since Obama nothing is even close to affordable and that's infringement.

Just one thought. If you want 8.5 and you get 8.7, 8.8, 8.9 why are you not readjusting after a few tries. It does take a little while for a new powder to adjust to the powder measure. Also a good scale will help with same numbers you are looking for, I keep my hopper at least 1/2 full. When it gets to 1/2 I fill it up again. Never had an issue with wrong charges with Tite Group or Trail Boss or other light charges. Keep the hopper clean so the powder will drop correctly. Once in a while mine may have a 0.1 grain deviation but has never been a problem. Also I use H110, Unique and others without any issues.

Good video. It is important to know what an ammo checker does and what it does not do. The checker only tells you if the brass is within a certain spec. It does not tell you whether the bullet itself will work with the particular barrel or if the OAL is correct.

I cheaped out for lighting by using a led strip made for sewing machine or similar project but for my Lee 4000 pro I ran the strip up ,across and down near the bullet seating station as I had trouble seeing powder in 38 cases. It works but it shines in my eyes so now wish I had gotten the KMS as it is made to fit underneath and shine down. That's a future upgrade!

Lee sells their carbide factory crimp die for all strait wall calibers including .45 colt. The .45 auto factory crimp die may be identicle, I've never measured the two side by side. A person can use most .45 auto bullets for .45 colt. Personally, I only build these rounds for 16" carbine rifles, so I like 230 gn and heavier.

I've had a Rock Chucker ll for 45 years and it works as good now as when new, just make sure you lube the ram and pivot pins once in a while with a little gun oil or grease. I would like to try out one of the RCBS Summit presses but that Rock Chucker is a forever investment that will even work in PRS, it does for me. I have a 7 station Lyman Spartan T turret press that I use for most pistol loads and a Dillon SDB for 45 Auto and Super 38 for my 1911's, the Lyman is perfect for handgun loading and the Rock Chucker feeds my Garand's and M1a for National Match. I have 3 presses and all wear Inline Fab mounts, my bench is small and it saves space and makes change out a breeze. I have a tall RCBS powder stand and I equipped it with the Lee quick change bushings so I can change powder dispensers in a quarter turn, 3 Uniflow's and a Lyman dropper I've never seen anywhere. It's designed for pistol powders and came out of a master 38 Special kit and it holds charge weights better than 1/2 gr with any powder I've put thru it. For handgun I never seperate my brass, most is all range pickup and it really doesn't matter. I just look for splits or damage, some of my many thousands of 38 Special brass I've had since the 70's and for plinkers I just use a taper crimp without a problem. Without a roll crimp your brass will last forever.
