A reduction in rotational weight makes a bike “feel” lighter, spin up faster, not exhaust you after a bunch of rolling hills, not the same as adding back weight of a full water bottle or just weighing 400g more. BUT that’s a huge price difference. Someone mentioned FSA Sl-K? Other lighter alternatives to GRX600 that don’t cost as much as full carbon? (and more durable!)

you must include a medieum level crank, like the cybrei , in 320gr w/o chain ring and 500$ or the SRAM RED XPLR DUB for 400€ and 313 gr

@@michaelviglianco6121 hey mate, normally I don’t respond to these kind of ”it’s half a water bottle” or ”just go to the bathroom before you ride” (I get them a lot hehe) But if you thought I was condescending I apologize. That was never my intention. I always try and poke fun at myself for my silly obsession. I realize I may take for granted that people have watched my other videos… but with your latest comment I understand now how my opening remark that I ”haven’t lost my mind” might be taken as condescending. But that was not my intention at all, it was from the angle of a guy (me) who spent 35euro to save 5g suddenly gets the heaviest crank he could find”. I never look down on how people choose to spec their bikes, if anything I get way more exited to see people putting in an effort building up a 8-9kg bike to fit their needs rather than someone just getting a top spec off the shelf bike that’s sub 6.8. There are A couple of chinese brands that challenge its German counterparts in the value for money department, and in many cases surpass the bavarian brands, that is, if one is not a brand or image junkie. There are surprisingly light, practical and sturdy parts at “adquirible” prices in the likes of aliexpress: less than 100usd sub 60 grams carbon saddles, low 300 grams carbon crankset in either aluminium 29mm dub or even shimano’s 24mm with titanium axles, for as low as 200 usd. Cranksets can be specked with, or ordered apart, proven power meter spiders from sigeyi or xcadey for less than 300 usd and bellow 100grams. These power meter spiders can be ordered in a variety of bcd configurations, so you may use your existing road, mtb or gravel chainrings.

I have 3 bikes with 165, 172.5 and 175mm +- same height as you never had any issues climbing steep stuff on the 165, it feels very nice to spin. What I don't like about the GRX crankset is crazy wide chainline for those small rings.

Found on sale a 50€ fc-rx600 crank in 165mm for testing, ended up keeping it, will put the 48/31 chainrings from my old fc-rx810. Problem now is, that i don't have a power meter for that crank lenght. Time to get some Assioma pedals. ;) Weight difference is around 50-60g. You can also mount single chain ring, both 40 and 42 work just fine. fc-rx610 should be no difference, same chain line, same bcd. I think the 2x 11s chainrings could be little lighter, as they have more cutouts.
@slayerofgrams9 күн бұрын
Yes, sorry I realize I wasn't clear in the video, you can only buy the with 38t & 40t "new". There's no problem swapping the rings to bigger than 40 with after market rings (or the Shimano fc rx820 42t ring)

Dude, switching from 170 to 160 was for me the best thing in my life. It works both in the mountains and on the flat. I don't understand the arguments saying that shorter cranks are only ok on the flat.
@slayerofgrams9 күн бұрын
I didn't want to make the video about the crank length so intensionally left it light on info there. Absolutely no problem like you say, for whatever potential "leverage" loss you might get that will be compensated with gearing. My "worry" is that I'd need to move over full time to a heavier 34t cassette for my casual rides in the mountains :) That said though, after a few rides on this crank, I honestly can't say I feel much if a difference at all :)
@awildcyclistappears9 күн бұрын
@@slayerofgramsyou went 5mm shorter than your usual one? I went 10mm and felt the change. ofc had to rise the seat to offset the crank arms lenggt. anyways, you get slightly higher cadence than usual on the same gears, of course hip angles open a bit more and pedaling feels (subjective i guess) smoother. oh, i also slammed my stem a bit after everything and still felt great :)

@@MrJaycobsen Sorry haven't been in the mountains yet. Still only riding indoors as I recover from my latest crash 😅 I've been on 170 in my steel commuter for over 10 years... in my mind I always preferred my 172.5, but the geometry (not to mentions the weight) on the commuter is so different I can't really make a proper judgment call on the crank length alone. Hence this little experiment.

There is one thing, that you can go for 6 bolt version and buy adapters for centrelock, if you have centrelock type of hubs and when your rotors are done you can buy again only new 6bolt version. Weight gona be the same every time and if you decide to change the wheels, there wouldn’t be any need to buy new rotors
