great points. for me, I think Dallas has 2 terrible signings that belong on the worst 5. or at least one of them. I'd say CO signing John Drouin 1 yr @ 2.5 belongs on my top5 best

That Honka part didn’t make sense, if he’s an offensive defencemen with a light frame at 5’10 how in the heck did he draw comparisons to Ristolainen?

How is Ritchie not a bust? He’s meh if he was picked in the 4th round or later. But 10th overall and a meh? For what? Anaheim got 43 goals out of him in 5 years. That’s something you sign a free agent for 1 mil to do, not a 10th overall pick. At least Virtanen got 55 goals. BUSTED

Not at all a good list. The top 5 worst contracts were all the bigger names. Who cares if someone paid a role player between 1 and 2 million with the cap going way up. None of those signings is going to break a teams flexibility

I like Monahan better than Debrusk well except for the age. Yeah I like Monahan, he's good, but I don't see the 5.5 million. He also has had historical, terrible injury problems. If his hips go again you have nothing for your investment. Checking Centers signed for four/five million, usually too much. I like Gustaffson but he only thrives in the perfect situation. He's no Shayne Gostisbehere. Poor Joel Edmundson. Love Him. He never lasts a full season. Can't stay healthy. I forgot Bergevin was over there in LA. The crazy moves they have made the last couple years suddenly become clear. I like the Chris Dreidger signing for a minimum salary in Florida. He was the former back-up and looked to be on the verge of being a good NHL goalie before he got injured at the World's. Finally back from that in time to maybe back up for an old Bobrovsky. Much more of a chance of playing than say Matt Murray. Matt Duchene for one year at 3$ million I think was good value. Chandler Stephenson at $6.25 million is probably getting too much money. Vegas owed him this money but he finally is getting it from Seattle. I don't understand any of the Detroit goalie signings. Talbot and Campbell? Also have Husso. At least Campbell and Lyon are making less than a million. I'm Loving the Brady Skjei signing in Nashville. Lyubushkin for $3.25 million seems like a lot. Like the skinner and arvidsson(except for injury) pick ups in edmonton. I really liked the Jacob Slavin resigning for 8 years (rest of his career) at 6.46 million a year. He has been one of the best defenseman in the league for half a decade now and he's much more important for Carolina now that they have let Skjei and Pesce go. I think it will balance nicely as his skills diminish but the cap goes up. He doesn't have the hard miles of some players so he may age well. Only makes one and a half hits every sixty minutes played. Interesting list. thanks Isn't Duhaimie a Goon ? I think Janmark is an actual player.

I hope the Oilers didn't just sign away the playoffs in 2025. Skinner has played over 1,000 games and has never been in the playoffs. Brindamor gave him away to Buffalo for a few middle level drart picks. And made the playoffs every year since. He is minus 130 for his career cause his defensive game is non-existent. Oilers have alot of fire power. Hope it's enough to make up for Skinner.

Paying Sean Monahan exactly what he is worth in free agency isn’t bad value in any way, even a slight overpay wouldn’t be. Hyman has indeed one of the best value contract in the NHL, but comparing it to recently signed fair value contracts doesn’t make them bad. Imagine comparing every Super Star contracts to Draisatl’s expiring one, it wouldn’t make sense. That being said, i do agree that CBJ are taking a big risk by giving him 5 years, due to his injury history, but hey i guess this is why they won his signature.

Also, I feel like Fabbri is better than he gets credit for. His low numbers on Detroit are because of deployment as well as not having a lot of touches in the O-zone. At one point last year, Fabbri had the 3rd highest shooting % in the league. He just needs more opportunities to shoot the puck. I hope he gets that opportunity on the Ducks this year because I'm definitely gonna miss him on the Wings

As a Panther fan, I'd tell you that Bennett has been indispensable. He has been a disappointment on the offensive side during the regular season, no doubt. Can't argue that Bennett was a bust for Calgary but his numbers went up in the postseason on Calgary as well as with the Panthers. I can't see the Panthers having the success that they've had without him (President's Cup and two Finals). He has been a top 6 forward on this team and his hard hitting defense has been critical. Bottom line is that he has performed like a top 4 player in the postseason and has been Hall of Fame good as a two way player when it mattered most.

Biased Flyers fan here - I don’t hate the Luchanko pick. I’m really excited to see how he develops moving forward. I know you shouldn’t draft for need at the top of a draft but we NEED centers and Jett has the tools to become a crazy fast, play making 2C.

Ron Francis said Seattle would have picked a D-man, but both their choices were gone by 8. The only two D picked at that point were Levshunov and Yakemchuk. There’s obviously a big disconnect between the amateur “scouting” community and real NHL management.
@martincorbeil33304 күн бұрын
Yeah I find it funny we hear a kid here calling out mistakes made by real scouts who have seen and talked to those prospects plenty of times. I've heard and seen it all before. There's always going to be some Pat Falloon, Nikita Filatov, Nail Yakupov, Nolan Patrick, Jimmy Waite that people see play against kids and think they are bound for stardom. I also remember guys like Erik Karlsson who Hockey News ranked 71 and International Scouting Services ranked at 22 and everyone was saying that guy was way too small to be drafted that high. Some even said there was a good chance he wouldn't last in the NHL. And there's Roman Josi who The Hockey News were the ones that ranked him the highest at 49 and some didn't even have him in their top 100. There are plenty of flashy guys who are dominant against kids then hit a wall when they play against men and there's plenty of guys that play a more simple game and fly under the radar and adapt much better against men. I would also add that just because a guy seem more skilled than another doesn't mean he will do well on a given team. Sometimes it's about the guys you're going to play with. I remember Alexei Kovalev playing in Ottawa on a line with Fisher and Foligno. It was awful. They couldn't finish his play and he wouldn't play their grinding style. Now imagine if Kovalev had developping with guys like that. He would be seen as a bust today. The truth is nobody can predict the careers of draftees

I think Ottawa reaches sometimes because it's Ottawa and no one wants to live there. Personally, I think they shoulda took the best d-man in the draft, Zeev Buium, but would he want to stay there? would he be so demoralized by the lack of freedom in Canada and not live up to his potential? Yakemchuck seems like he's gonna be a solid player, so I'm ok with the pick.

I do agree with you on trading back: I don't think Parascak was high enough on teams' lists that trying to trade with teams who had picks #20-25 would've been a bad idea (and TBF: GMBM might have been trying to do that very thing behind the scenes...) I also wouldn't have been mad if the Caps had sent #17 to Winnipeg for McGroarty (I know they would've had to send prospects and/or other picks too, but still: A fan can daydream)

Make it make sense how a kid that scores 105p in the WHL... (more than Iginla that went in the top 10 and Basha who you literally said was a "mid 20" round pick) is a "reach" at 17oa. Both those players scored roughly 20+ points less that Parascak. His PNHLe rating is 5th in the draft? INSANE how little respect people have for this kid. "reach" is insane to me. i saw him at 15-20.
