this really helps me decide, I would go for the SSL because your method demonstrate they hold integrity after tons of re-recording. honestly I don't think it really matter on practical wise, but it tells me that they are aware of that aspect and have a solution. (well I think their knobs layout are very practical) I think every brand has their own focus beside the basic functions, your tests help me know the position and temper of each brands.

You should definitely re-do this video with the same level of indepth-ness as your audio interface video. For instance, you have to try Furman's prestige series boxes that promise to reduce and filter noise down by insane levels, claimed at -40db at 10khz? Huge claims. They also claim to reduce guitar 60 cycle hum and provide snappier tone in that prestige series, so this video could have used a guitar test coupled with more expensive power conditioners. I only say this because the title right now is too general and you've only tested three specific lower tier boxes. Cheers

Excellent work. I hope you never felt underappreciated here. Extreme levels of usefulness, you've done the world a great service. Thank you guy :)

In logic you have "recording dealy" setup, where you can input your systems samples delay. With this set and direct monitoring, it should be like tracking with analogue gear. Nowdays, you can apparently check your latency with an IO effect, just hover over it and it will show the latency on that channel.

Without RME, this list is useless. They are at a high price point but there is nothing that compares in stability, they sound neutral. Own madiface, madiface fx, babyface, fireface uc,fireface ucx, octamic. For bringing in and out audio in the workstations hdspe and hsdpe fx. Madi stuff is also brilliant with the direct.out matrices. Also fan of motu interfaces, the density of i/o with the same high quality sound at a lower price point is great. But they are not as durable in the long run.

I'm a FPS gamer and also home studio beginner. I want some good audio interface for realtime EQ'ing headset, see and quickly change settings and long term device for quality. will get DT 900 Pro X headphones and this headphone has 48 ohm. So i was curious until see this video. I guess this device can handle 48 ohm (for my research feedbacks, 48 ohm is quite low considered to others i guess...) Also i am going to buy electro guitar in future but reviews says Connect 6 doesnt have One feature i dont remember. That feature gives to instrument high power so everything is clear and not muffled... Also i like softwares, i want to think lewitt will update his apps and keep up to date Connect 6. Is connect 6 is good for me or the Audient iD24 is the go?

What is the best setup for a condenser microphone? I have a cm25 mkiii from a focusrite scarlet 2i2. It is quite sensitive, if I add sound so that the graph is clearly visible, then I can hear the noise of the room.
@Get.Beautiful.Recordings2 күн бұрын
Yeah…. That’s normal. That’s why studios invest in really quiet rooms. If your Focusrite Scarlett is a 1st Gen… those have quite noisy preamps too.
@ArthurAbramovPhotoКүн бұрын
@Get.Beautiful.Recordings I have focusrite scarlet 4 gen. But it's also kind of noisy. Even at very low gain settings you can hear white noise, is that normal?

the SSL 2 mkii also bypasses the preamps when line is selected according to SSL website

The winners of the test aren't satisfactory for me. Other than the Behringer, which is okay and it's actually only $79, not $200, the other two options are oddball options and personally I haven't heard of those brands in my life. The Lewitt Connect 6 looks weird and isn't stackable, and why buy that over a $109 UMC404HD? The Audient ID24 is enormous and has the inputs on the back, making it unusable for my purposes. What about the Roland Rubix or RME? Seem like glaring omissions to me.
@LarryBartram-k7o3 күн бұрын
Based on your thoughtful review, I was surprised to hear that there was no way to bypass the MT 48 preamps when using external line inputs. I contacted Neumann about this and, according to them, your analysis isn't correct. I'm no electronics engineer so I'm in no position to evaluate that. However, the following comes from Neumann's MT 48 web site. It seems to suggest preamp-free "clean AD conversion" but it doesn't address your point definitively, either: "Can I use my outboard preamp with the MT 48? Yes, all four MT 48 inputs can be set to Line mode for a clean AD conversion. This is done on the input's Preamp module on the MT 48. (Line Inputs 1-2 feature 138.5 db-A dynamic range.) Additionally, if your preamp has an ADAT or S/PDIF output, that of course can be connected directly to the MT 48’s optical input."

I mostly agree. I’ve used one piece of Presonus gear that is working out well, their studio live 24ai mixing board… but everything else of theirs that I’ve tried has been poor quality.

Not enough measurements into for example generational loss. Also, you didn't give the noise floor in dB but in some generic unit you came up with... Not good enough. Ears lie, proper measurements don't.

do you usually record at 96khz?

I thought the scarlett’s 3rd and 4th inputs on the back do bypass the preamp. Since the gain knobs have no effect on them?

10:10 I googled it and I think the newer motu m4 can do zero latency, but I’m not sure. This what l found: “Hardware monitoring offers zero-latency operation This means that there is no delay between what you play and/or sing and what you hear in your headphones. The M4's inputs can also be recorded simultaneously, allowing you to monitor with zero latency while tracking - a must for achieving a natural-sounding performance.”. Did I catch that right?

I use the MOTU M2 and to be honest, the headphone volume sounds super good...but as said in the video, I have never been so satisfied with the mic preamps, though i didn't have any other interface to compare with. In the next update, i will consider the mic preamps...i would really love to hear sweet clean vocals or guitars coz thats 90% of what i use the interface for apart from play back.

Chris - I experimented with iPhone audio and determined that Apple simulate some sort of directional microphone, such that on-axis is when you speak directly into the screen. I found that speaking into the bottom of the phone actually is 90 degrees off axis.

For anyone wondering, the Steinberg ur22c has a DSP. So it's not just a below average card because of the noisy yamaha preamps. It has a suit of effects and processors and even amp sims, you can use with the high-z input. Afaik, it even works standalone controlled via app.

Thats a good test. I have a Audio-Interrface from Thomann, the Swissonic Audio-1. I am very happy with it, but have one problem. I bought the Interface Audio-1 instead of the Audio-2 cause it had the XLR-input for channel 1 and 6.3-input for channel 2. And that is the problem now. If i want to record two synthesizers at the same time, i can not connect the first synth to the XLR cause its preamp. Have you recommendations what to do to get an high-voltage input recorded on that Mic-Amp, will this be changing the quality much, will it be better to change the interface and use a Mixer with Mic-Preamp included?
@Theyrewrong82712 күн бұрын
No Direct ADC inputs makes it not worth it at all, much better options out there.

I really don't know if I should pick the MOTU 4 or the Volt 476. Which one is better do you guys think'?
@Get.Beautiful.Recordings12 күн бұрын
The volt has better preamps and overall better sound quality, the Motu has better mix control of direct monitoring. Those are the biggest differences in my opinion.

@ Thanks a lot for the reply. I’m also leaning towards the audient mentioned or the SSL 12. I want a 4 in 4 out interface. This video is awesome and appreciate you for posting it!
