Hi. Thx for the content. Im recording vocals with a lewitt lct 540s in to the golden age preamp pre 73 and the into motu m4 and then into the golden age comp 2a. But my vocals Sound very harsh in 2khz-16khz. Have i to press the line or the low z on the preamp ?

Do not engage the line level or the Hi-Z when recording with a microphone. The equipment you are using is excellent quality, so the issue is most likely your room acoustics. You can test this by recording something outside on a nice day, and compare the sound.

Do you find that there is a difference in quality between A/D converters? There's a debate online about whether there is more than a negligible difference in sound quality between top converters and average ones. Was curious about your thoughts?

Hi, yes, there is a lot of debate online, some people say it's a considerable difference, some say it's not. Some converters are very expensive, some are not. I was also very curious about this, and since I have a bunch of different converters, I did extensive testing to find out first hand. I have over a hundred videos that I've already planned out, and this is one of them, so I will eventually get to it. However, the short answer is that the difference between a top quality converter and a budget one is very negligible. For the difference to be noticeable, you would need excellent room acoustics, high end monitoring, and even then, would only make a difference on songs that have a high channel count. On a single channel of audio, the conversion by itself would be indistinguishable between any modern mainstream interface, wether high end, or budget. However, the conversion on other devices that are not a dedicated audio interface can be noticeably inferior, such as a stock computer output, or the headphone jack on a smart phone. The single largest factor in determining the audio quality of a recording interface is the quality of the preamps, and they can vary quite a bit. Thanks for your question.
