My new purchase of the same bottle arrived today. Interestingly the bottle label appears to be slightly different to yours as it states clearly at the bottom front ‘no chill filtering - natural colour’. Must have been asked a lot about it. Website states natural but now we know for sure. Excited to explore this one too - been on my list for ages!!

Nice review. I really like Craigellachie 13yo, "The bad boy of Speyside". I dscovered it some years ago after watching Ralfys review, I fell in love with it at the first sip, but it's not a beginners dram. And now I always try to have a bottle at home. Here in Sweden the fixed price right now is sek609 (£44) in todays currency. To me that's a relly good price for that quality. Cheers
@WhiskyWarsКүн бұрын
That’s a better RRP than here in the UK (£55) so I totally agree 🙂 Really happy for you in Sweden that you get this for a great price because I know sometimes that’s not always the case! It’s also one of those where I really feel like even in the second bottle there’s a note or two extra that you can pick out and explore which keeps it interesting, cheers!

Good video Ash, the 13 is a regular on my shelf and we do get ( on the whole) in Germany pretty decent prices. Pretty sure this is natural colour. If pop/alcohol drinks are sold in Germany it should state on the label either’ mit Farbstoff or mit Zukerkulör Slàinte 🥃

30 Euros - what a fantastic price!! Great minds and all that. I had a bottle of this delivered exactly a week ago, (but I sadly paid £52). I’ve only had a neck poir so far and am now waiting for it to open up to explore further. Wouldn’t have picked this as a Speyside in a blind. The good thing about buying in germany is that they have to mention it on the label if they add colourant. It should say something like: 'mit farbstoff' or 'farven justered med karamel'. I like the craigellachie, and its hard to fault, but dont think I like it as much as others do.

Interesting! I’ll have to look for it. There’s a good chance I’ve missed it because the label is very busy! I’ve just done some Black Friday shopping now that I’m back in the UK, it just depends on where I am and since I know the UK market, I search for whiskies that are cheaper in Germany and only buy those ones. To be honest I think most whiskies tend to be cheaper in the UK but there’s some that are like half the price in Germany so I can’t resist to buy those ones 🙂 That’s still cheaper than in the UK so a good deal I think! Thanks, that’s good to know, I couldn’t either. I think the new mic is working well :)

Well done Ash, such a amazing price WoW!! £44 at MoM at the moment. Rumour is its coloured but if "mit farbstoff" not stated on your german bottling looks like something changed( just checked at Whisky Exchenge and its states: No colour)!!! 👏👏👏 fully crafted now 🥳. My bottle gone long time ago and need to buy another one but maybe bas armagnac one or IB. Sipping Ben Nevis 11yo IB which is quite similar in profile and same way tasty dram. Watching your review on headphones and there is no any noise 👌 Cheers,😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️

Lets be honest, you dont save - you buy more :D. Craigellachie is definitely not boring, and I liked it more during a period. Now I dont enjoy it as much. It has some good fermented fruit and citrus notes, some burnt rubber and chili. Full and intense, and pretty hot with alcohol as well. Short and dry on the finish I think. I can relate to your impressions about industrial, and it being different and interesting in the speyside setting. That Oban 14 though, I really like. Not as bold, but wonderful starfruit flavor and saltyness I find it to have

It should be natural colour (according to the internet) And as far as I remember, you need to write on the tin in Germany if you have added artificial colour. I love this whisky, it is so nice and so dirty at the same time.

I must admit though, I didn’t think I saw it on the tin and it was bought in Germany but the label is very busy so there’s a chance I missed it. What an incredible colour, really represents what’s inside for me. Totally agree with you. Dirty is a good word for it, cheers!

Honestly preferred Batch strength Original to the regular one. As far Peated is concerned I chased Batch Strength Peated for a long time and it turned out that difference was negligible to me. I would suggest to try different finishes they are offering - Manzanilla was stunning. According to recent discussion with Sebastian brand ambassador - age statements are not likely for foreseeable future.

Thank you Ash. I haven't tried most of these, but I've had Jura, AnCnoc and Teeling.Jura is just too expensive for what it is. Teeling was ok for me, but not one I'll come back to anytime soon. Ancnoc, was not bad in my opinion. I've had 2 bottles of it and the vinegar note didn't put me off. I focused mostly on the sherry/peat notes wich I enjoyed. However It's more likely I choose others over that in the future. The only Ardnamurchan I've had was the peated sherry cask, wich I liked a lot. Very unique. Speaking of notes that don't really mix.. As you know, I love dense notes in the smoke and sherry department, so I wanted to see what happened if I mixed a peated whisky with port wine 😊 Well. It didn't work as I anticipated. I tried many diffrent ratios between Finlaggan batch strength 50% ABV with 20% ABV Port wine. From a few drops of Port in Finlaggan, all the way to a few drops of Finlaggan in the Port wine. The only acceptable and intresting mix was in the ranges 90-98% Port and 2-10% Finlaggan. 😂
@WhiskyWars8 күн бұрын
Hahaha I have to give you credit, you just made me laugh then. A 98/2 mixer! You really like your sherry notes don’t you 😂 what could beat that though is by adding PX sherry with the finlaggan in that same ratio, the sweetness I think would be even more! Although a lower ABV but maybe you could throw a bit of an unpeated scotch in there to bump up the ABV. I still think there’s room to play with this before you have your perfect blend!
@PezrulezHaakon8 күн бұрын
@@WhiskyWars Yep, I'm a smoke/sherry sucker 😂 The 98/2 was beginning to enter the smoky port realm. Smoky red wine could be the next big thing 😁 I might also try to mix a smoky whisky with a Cognac, wich basicly is wine too. Unfortunately the notes in Cognac usually aren't that strong, so a smoky whisky will most likely overtake the Cognac. Chances are that it will be a 98/2 mix there too 🤗

There seems to be a common theme with the majority of the whiskies you have listed here...they are bottled at 40% ABV, more than likely heavily chill-filtered which in my opinion will destroy a lot of the viscosity and natural character of the whisky. I think in my collection of rum and whisky I only have 2 bottles bottled at 40% ABV, and they were given to me as gifts. Regarding Jura you need to try out independent bottlings - the ones I have had are imo a significant step up from their official bottlings. I still consider the Jura 27 year old from Whisky Sponge that I reviewed last year to be one of the best bottles I have ever had. Only Ardnamurchan I have is one of their cask strength bottles (unsure which year) - sure the spirit is youthful but I enjoyed it, and thought it was decent enough value for a cask strength whisky. Not my favourite but overall promising and hopefully a sign of good things to come. Cheers for the list 🥃
@WhiskyWars9 күн бұрын
True but I’ve also enjoyed some whiskies at that proof point. To be honest, the oldest Jura I’ve had is the 12 so I wouldn’t even be able to imagine what an extra 15 years, potentially NCF and a high ABV could do to that whisky because it would change so much from what I’ve had but I believe you in saying that it’s some amazing juice!! That’s fair enough and to be honest, I’m very open to try future bottlings from them and seeing how their whisky develops over time. I’m not trying to criticise the distillery, just this particular bottling which I found rather lacking. Cheers! 🥃
