Love the block pattern! Makes perfect sense that your blocks would be end-grain, I hadn’t thought of that. How much does your average block weigh?

Thank you, which one? I made them both. :) The first one is my latest finished one (end of 2024) and the second one is an ancient one, from 2008!

Well, the colors in both look wonderful on you! I commented on the first one, before I saw the second, but the second is lovely as well. It’s really cool that you made them both!!

When I try it the wax stays on the wooden block instead of printing the fabric. I use 100% beeswax, any idea why that’s happening?
@waxonstudio7 күн бұрын
@@Atheyani my suspicion is that you are using a block that is not designed for batik. This is common. A lot of people bring their hand carved wood blocks from India into my shop and show me excitedly, and then I have to bum them out by letting them know that is a block designed for printing inks or dyes onto fabric! In order to suck up and release wax, it needs to be carved into a wood with a very specific porosity and into the end grain. Where did you get your block?
@Atheyani6 күн бұрын
@ thank you so much! Very interesting I didn’t think about the wood porosity at all. I just used some basic pine cleat i had at home and carved it myself with a dremel. I specifically took the hardest piece I had thinking it would be the best option 😅 I guess I’d have to use a more porous wood. Do you have any recommendations?
@waxonstudio17 сағат бұрын
@@Atheyani Well, I absolutely love your commitment to DIYing it! I still just recommend using mine, because they are how I make my living obviously!

I found the mandala tutorial helpful, but why can't it just be your voice we can hear instead of the irritating jingly-jangly music over the top of it constantly too? I love music but that jingly stuff is like nails down a blackboard and has turned me off. Oh well...😢
@waxonstudioАй бұрын
Hello, you are actually commenting on a different video, not the mandala video you're talking about! It is very hard to please everyone's personal tastes. Music that is irritating to you, might be pleasant to someone else. I have given up trying to please everyone on the internet... but thanks for your comment, and I hope you find videos that are pleasing to you.

How do you stop the wax from getting back on the fabric as you lift it out? Always wondered about that
Thank you! I just tried batik for the first time and was having issues with this step. Very helpful to see the entire process of boiling it out. I didn’t move it around nearly enough in the water on my first attempt.

just wondering why you don't use paraffin wax in with your beeswax
@pouponcrazycat59876 ай бұрын
Parafin smells awful and dies not leave the lines like Beeswax does
@waxonstudio17 сағат бұрын
I am so sorry, how am I just seeing this a whole year later?? I don't use paraffin mostly because it's a fossil fuel and I don't like the idea of breathing petroleum fumes unless I invested in a fancy ventilator... and breathing beeswax just smells so much nicer!

Thank you so much for a lovely well-done video. I'm just starting to try batik watercolors and hopefully one day on small items of clothing. Collecting everything to do so was a challenge but I even splurged on an electric tjanting tool years ago knowing when I started watercolors batik was my goal. I forgot I had it until recently and I was overjoyed when I found it. I am making wax mixtures and am all ready. Your work looks amazing. I'm subscribing!

Sorry to hear you're disappointed-- artists need to make a living, too, and sometimes I do give away all my techniques for free online, but this time you have to be on my mailing list, which is free. It's a strategy for being a full time teaching artist. Haters gonna hate, I guess! Are you offering free content for your job to strangers online? Just wondering!

Crap. I wanted to batik my old organic cloth baby carrier to make it unique for a friend who is having a baby. I have the powder dye, and I learned how to do the painting process in school (art) but we just used paper towels to soak up the old wax 😂 we never washed it!? So today I started wondering, well, isn’t all that dye going to bleed onto her clothes if she sweats? And onto all her clothes when she washes it!? Which led me to your video and now I’m worried I bit off more than I can chew. So what is this soaking process? Do you still get most of the wax off with paper towels? Guess I will search your videos!

The title of this video is "how to do low water immersion dyeing" but that's not what this video contains. I guess I'll keep looking for information elsewhere, but I wish you'd been up front about it instead of wasting my time. I'm not inclined to sign up for a newsletter after being misled this way.

If you don't have something nice to say, consider not saying anything at all. I'm sorry you disapprove of the way I'm trying to make a living as a teaching artist. Making a teaser-length video for what would otherwise be a paid tutorial is a common practice. Are you harassing other instructors on KZbin about their choices, or just me? There's plenty of free content out there, I encourage you to just walk away if you don't like mine. And if you *do* like the way I teach-- support me by joining my mailing list! ;)
@jenthulhu Жыл бұрын
@@waxonstudio I think you misunderstood me. I'm sure I wasn't clear in my comment. I just wish it was obvious from the beginning of the video that this IS a teaser for a class. I have ZERO issues with class teaser videos. It's possible I missed something--and if I did, I apologize. I was simply frustrated, after spending some time with you, that it seemed like I was cut off just as I had become fully invested in your lesson. It seemed like you have great info to offer. I can't afford to buy any classes right now. I apologize for the negative energy and the misunderstanding. Have a wonderful day!

I agree, that the title is misleading. I think this could be useful feedback actually. Since it usually doesn’t feel nice to feel lied to, and have your time wasted, I’d say this doesn’t help getting ppl eager to sign up…
