How do you avoid getting too much white or no white at all showing through in your designs?

It mostly is about not scrunching too tightly. I also ice dye in the muck, which is really helpful in eliminating accidental white spots. Ice dyeing on the rack is usually trickier in that regard.

Does this work well also with the dye/soda ash powder mix from your ice dye kits, rather than pre-soaking the fabric with soda ash?

It does! Do powder under snow, like I did, to give the soda ash the best chance at dissolving. A few folks from IG sent me their snow dye projects using our kit, and they all looked great.
