So the main way is by what the manufacturer says on the box. Now I know that sometimes manufactures lie but when you see the manufacturer with the badge ISO 9001, this indicates a promise to quality at the highest level. ISO 9000 and one is a group that has rules the companies have to follow if they wanna have this badge. So because this company does have the ISO 9001 badge then the information that is given about the product in my opinion I would believe. Other than that in order to do testing you need special equipment which I don’t have in the average person doesn’t have so no real other way to know. That we’re aware of.

I was wondering if you could explain why you got the 150 hp kit instead of the smaller one for your engine. Maybe you did and I missed it. Thanks. Great Video.
@416Expedition5 күн бұрын
Sorry it’s takin some time to get back to you. So the main reason why we went with the this version of the kit is that from what I remember the first kit was up to 60 hp whereas for this one goes up to 150 horses and our boats able to take a 75 horse motor so getting this version set us up for future repowering with a larger motor. Also checking the reviews between the this version and the smaller version is that the smaller version had a lot of bad reviews. We’re super happy that we went with the with this version. Also I never hurts to over engineer things that way it lasts longer but again that’s just our opinion.

I had the same issues with my bilge pump hose. Except my hose was worn out, I just pulled it out and threw it away. When I bought new hose, I bought 3/4" hose which was too small. Being a cheapskate I went to AutoZone and bought heater hose which fit. It kinked because my through the hull fitting was straight not 90°. So now I am goin tgo have to do it again with 1 1/8" bilge pump hose. I'm glad that I saw this video because it confirmed that I need the 1 1/8" hose because I have that brand of bilge pump.

I'm excited I can't wait to go to hydraulic steering. My steering needs replacing and running hydraulic lines is easy if you tape them well to the steering cable when you pull it through or you can tie a piece of nylon rope to the steering cable when you pull it through then use the rope to pull the hydraulic lines back through. Mounting the steering unit is pretty easy and straight forward. The biggest issue Ive seen is the steering pump may be to big for your old cable steering whole in the console. That can get tricky.
@416Expedition2 ай бұрын
Hey @dwayneroberts6616, If you do not have access to run the lines through your boat, then yes what you just explained is the best way to run the hydraulic lines. I know some boats get really tight for space. Thanks for the tip. stay safe.

Vevor hydraulic steering for 150hp and up I just purchased in 2023. Steering shaft nut seized on the shaft when tightening and could not get it off. Called Vevor and they offered me a discount on the steering unit instead of sending me a new shaft. Told Vevor I just wanted a new replacement shaft and was told they don't have the parts for these and again offered me money to remedy the problem. They don't have parts for the products they sell?????????? Called CC company and had charges reversed. Vevor reversed charges and told me they did not want the steering sent back. So, I had shaft welded, turned and rethreaded and now everything is good, right? Wrong! Pump started leaking less than a month later. Go read the reviews online. They try to remedy their problems by offering you a discount on the purchase. My informed decision, don't buy from Vevor.

I am in the process of installing a similar system - it looks exactly the same as yours and may be a re-branded OEM. My question is about setting the steering wheel - how do you adjust the steering wheel so that it is correctly oriented with the engine? e.g., when travelling straight ahead, the wheel should be oriented where the spokes are basically at about 9, 3 and 6 - mine are a bit off. any help would be appreciated.
@416Expedition3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question @GeneFleming-c8x. There are so many "rebranded" systems, but for the most part they are based on the idea. Note: you might need 2 people for this. So to recenter your wheel, what I was told was to: - First center the motor, take note on which way and how much your wheel is off. - Turn the wheel the opposite way of the off set until you can not turn the wheel anymore. - Open the bleeder screw for the side that you turned your wheel towards. - Turn the wheel of the amount of the off set. - Close the bleeder screw. E.g... If the wheel if a quarter turn to the left off, them turn the wheel to the right all the way. open the bleeder screw and turn the wheel to the right a quarter turn. close the bleeder screw. That is what I did and for the most part it worked. But the wheel doesn't center all the time when I driving. My OCD starts going crazy as my wheel isn't straight. So I think I am going to buy one of those boating wheels that has no reference to being straight! You see them more on sail, and large fishing boats. They have something like 6 spokes! I am not sure if there is a way to have the wheel straight. This is the best solution that I have. If you do find a better solution, please let me know. Stay safe out there.
@GeneFleming-c8x3 ай бұрын
@@416Expedition Thank you for the information, I will give it a try and report back. Just to clarify....in your example where the wheel is a quarter turn to the left off. You turn the wheel all the way to the right then open the bleeder. Do you continue turning the wheel to the right an additional quarter turn with the bleeder open (and not turn the wheel back to the left with the bleeder open)? I know what you mean about the OCD thing, makes me crazy.
@dwayneroberts66162 ай бұрын
So you can't just unscrew the steering wheel lift it up and install it so that it's centered? Is just a little off when the splines align on the steering shaft?
@416Expedition2 ай бұрын
Not this type, there is "key" on the shaft and then on the wheel side, there are only 2 spots where the "key slide into.
@416Expedition2 ай бұрын
So I'll be turning all the way until I can't then open the bleeder screw, turn the quarter turn, stop then close the bleeder screw.

How much time did it take to swap out the steering system?
@416Expedition4 ай бұрын
Hey @NuthaRedneck , Thank you for your question and for watching the video. It took me about 4 hrs! The hardest part of the whole thing was removing the old steering cable system. There wasn't enough space between the motor and the haul to remove the main Stainless Steele rode that goes into the tilt tube. So I had to make a choice either remove the motor or cut the rod! I did a steering swap for my friend pontoon boat. That went so much quicker, 2 hours.

You will see on the steering rack it's rated to 300hp the hem is rated 150hp bleeding takes a long time if you go by the directions , quick and easy way is to put two bleed hose on each end of the rack going into a clear recovery bottle so you can see the air coming out and oil , then fill up the hem spinning the wheel at the same time in both directions until no air comes out of the rack then tighten the bleeding ends ,, steering should be working , also I just used auto trans oil witch is hydraulic fluid anyway and cheaper and can buy from anywhere.. hope my bleeding tip is understandable

So I've noticed that some reviews that are bad are from people that used Teflon tape to seal the threads. I don't think with hydraulic systems Teflon should be used with the size orifices in the helm and pump. If any Teflon gets in there it will cause issues. Just curious if you've had any issues since you've installed the system?
@416Expedition4 ай бұрын
Hey @mychaelmitchell4632, thanks for the question. I have not had any issues so fare with the joints or the system. No leaks. When I spoke to the hydraulic guys, they said that it shouldn't hurt it. So that's why I went with it. There's also a rubber "O" ring that seals the joints. I just wanted the tape there to keep water from getting into the threads.

Regarding the switch for the lead acid or gel , which position do you put the switch in if you have lithium ?
@416Expedition4 ай бұрын
Hey @larryWebb-gv8dz thank you for your question. Charging a lithium battery with a solar panel charger designed for SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) or GEL batteries is not recommended. Lithium batteries require a different charging profile compared to SLA or GEL batteries. Using the wrong charging option can damage the lithium battery, reduce its lifespan, or even cause safety issues. Lithium batteries typically need a specific charge controller designed for their unique requirements, including precise voltage and current control and proper balancing of the cells. Here's what you should do: Check the Charger Specifications: Look at the charger’s manual or specifications to see if it has a setting specifically for lithium batteries. Some chargers are versatile and have different settings for different battery types. Use a Lithium-compatible Charge Controller: If your solar charger does not have a lithium setting, you can use a lithium-compatible charge controller. This controller will manage the charging process according to the needs of lithium batteries. Consult the Battery Manufacturer: Check the lithium battery's manual or consult the manufacturer for recommended charging parameters and ensure your charger can meet those requirements. Charging lithium batteries correctly is crucial for safety and performance. If your current charger does not support lithium batteries, investing in a proper lithium-compatible solar charge controller is the best course of action.

@416Expedition5 ай бұрын
Cadmium, does it rust? I just kind of wanted to see SS for that backing plate. I like to try to set thingings up so that they last as long as they can. I go by "Plan and plan again, then execute." I've seen ppl try and rotate the T peace and then snap it right at the threads! I just wanted to show that you could swap the connection without damaging anything. Just double-check the tilt tube inner diameter of your motor and that it will work with the kit you want. From what I remember there was 3 kids, a small medium and large. I thought mine was gonna be the small kit. But after reviewing the Inner diameter of the tilt tube, it ended up being the medium kit, which is the one that I got, so just pay attention to that. Thanks again for watching the video and leaving a comment and your questions.
