I'm ftom Taos and even though I've been away from there, I remember all those old customs. Still return there ocassionally. My ancestors go back a long way. Torres, Salazar, Cordova, Tafoya and others.

As a person whose NM branch of family are mostly mestizo people, I was glad to hear the woman who spoke to reality of having a heritage of both the oppressed and the oppressor. And how complicated that is.

I think I get it, let nature take its course, I especially like her comment about planting more parsley and dill etc so everything has enough to eat. Parsley and dill have beautiful flowers too.

Interesting vid. I’ve been checking out a handful of plants I’ve seen growing wild on the side of roads and wondering how I could figure out what they are, and figure out how to get their seeds and spread them around the fenceline of my property. Is there a good resource, or is Roadside etc of New Mexico (book) the best one?

In one part of my yard, I cultivate the good-old-leave-it-alone, where milk weed and fox glove and the un-nameable flower and spread and help or hurt harmful insects. I freely admit that when it comes to insects, I don't know what's going on, so there's no point in spraying and spading, pretending that I do...

Thank you, Mr. Torrez. Sadly, the descendants of those resistance fighters are still being disrespected by recent 'invaders' who come here to buy their second, third, fourth home. Buying land doesn't entitle you. They bring their racism with them.

A note about the music. Remember most of us drawn to these videos can pretty much abide in the silence and we are just looking for some pointers or companionship. This selection of music does not assist that goal.

Sad how he uses new Mexican and Mexican interchangeably. New Mexico is older than mexico. The athabascan blood is thicker in New Mexico than the Aztec blood And our roots are deeper. That land was only Mexico's for approximately 26 years. You may call people who were there during the occupation of Mexicans but the vast majority of them were not

Because they are Mexican. Some Nuevo Mexicanos today are still in denial about this fact but many are not. The original "Hispanos" of New Mexico were mostly full Natives mixed Natives (Mestizos) from Central Mexico. They moved up north and mixed with local natives, this is the same story that happened in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua etc. the indigenous group that Nuevo Mexicanos mixed with the most was not Athabascan (Navajo, Apache). They mostly mixed with the diverse groups of Pueblo peoples of the Rio Grande areas. Nuevo Mexicanos were under the rule of Mexico City for close to 250 years. The last 25 years were under an independent Mexican administration free from Spain. That's 250 years of connected history, culture and identity with the rest of Mexico and other Mexicans, not just 25 years LMAO. Nuevo Mexicanos did not want to be separated from Mexico and become American, they were forced to and that's a fact. Neuvo Mexicanos of the 1840s were 💯% Mexican. That makes those Neuvo Mexicanos who became American and those today who descend from the original Nuevo Mexicanos 💯% Mexican American, whether you like it or agree. Many descendants of the original Hispanos/Nuevo Mexicanos like myself have no issues being identified as such because it's the factual history of our people. Enchiladas, la llorona, Las Posadas, corridos, ranchos, tortillas, Virgin de Guadalupe, cholos(lol), La pastorela, rice and beans, Mestizo, lowriders, Chile, Tamales, Mariachi music, La Marcha de Zacatecas/de novios, Burritos etc. come from Mexican/Mexican American culture. We're just our own unique version of Mexican/ Mexican American, just like a Mexican from Sonora is different from a Mexican from the Yucatan and a Mexican American from California is different from a Mexican American from Texas. As for New Mexico being older than Mexico, well that's ridiculous. The people living in Central Mexico in the 1500s called it "New" for a reason. Already in the early 1500s Central Mexico the name "Mexico" for a region and political entity had existed. Technically starting in the 1300s since the Mexica named their two main cities Mexico-Tenochtitlan and Mexico-Tlateloco, along with any region/city that came under their direct control. Oppose to regions/cities that were just under Mexica tributary control. Now forget about comparing it to Mexico's Independence date of 1821 because New Mexico doesn't even have an independence date to compare it to.

I especially loved the analogy of the bees, and the translation of St John of the Cross - his acceptance of not knowing. Wonderful, thank you Mirabai.

i kill invasive trees by cutting them down, then wrapping some heavy duty black plastic around it, taped on good like tons of tape around what's left to hold the bag on. the lack of sunshine speeds the killing process and will eventually kill what's underground. takes around 6-12 mos. i basically leave it there and forget about it, check it 6 months later. you'll know its really dead cuz it will pull out like nothing.
