I sure do. You need to keep watching and working on your game in practice swings if you're not playing much. If you are playing and not regularly watching me then that is a problem.

You did this a while ago as well and I followed thru on it and it made such a difference as long as you have a smooth swing and don't try to kill it all of the time. Great tutorial.

Great. Yes, the hitting hard is an issue. So you loosen and get it rolling. For more power you add body. This makes it really whip. Glad you're doing it.

Exactly. So easy to fix this. They need to see it differently though. So hinge roll and rehinge. Get it hooking. Do it with a teed up 7 iron. Now you see way longer shots. Don't watch the direction. Watch the spin. This is half. Once you can hook about 10 in a row the switch to lower body to start the swing. If the body moves first you hit it straight. I can fix you in minutes. Man, I just did your ear-2-ear wrist drill today. I only did it for about 1 minute and started swinging, and I instantly started getting better results. I have a bicep pull on my right arm from using someone else's 9 iron at the course the other day, and it hurts very little bit at rest. I went into the backyard this morning, practiced that wrist drill and just relaxed my arms doing 2/3 distance shots. I felt no pain in my bicep with any of the swings, and I was hitting solid shots with my 7 iron. I just rotated my legs and hips, kept my upper body and arms relaxed and allowed my wrists to hinge. I felt completely effortless, and felt good. I wouldn't recommend anyone swinging with an injury like I did, though. I just saw that ear-2-ear drill video and was too tempted not to try it.

@paulwilsongolf6 күн бұрын
Controlling the face is hitting. I don't want anyone hitting anything. The wrists are a hinge. They hinge ... they rehinge. There is no power in them and they should be super loose. Sure, if you hit enough balls then you get decent at controlling it. Take a break and it's a disaster cause you loose the feel and touch. Why not do nothing and start the season hit it unreal good? Oh yeah, you rarely have to practice doing it my way too (once you get it). Follow along. I will make you hit it better than you ever have in your life.

You got it. A hinge in life is loose. Hinge rehinge but get it hooking first. Then straighten it out with body later.

I do prefer a shorter swing versus a swing that's too long. The shorter the swing the less opportunity to pull the arms down and hit hard. As for the shorter swing it can get too short. Hopefully your not doing that. Yes, my technique works with shorter swings. As you go back just need to hinge fully. So no longer swing just check your hinged to your max. Once hinged allow the wrists to release and rehinge it in the through swing. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4PPiWp4d6uinsU

The forearms through is good for sure but the real issue is tight wrists. Loosen them up and the chicken wing goes bye bye.

Hey Paul, I’ve been trying to figure out my grip size and I’ve been messing around with some different clubs seeing which feels the best for my grip. I’m 6’3 so I have pretty big hands and long fingers. I’ve been doing the neutral grip you teach but do you have any recommendations on what I should be feeling with different grips? Thanks
@paulwilsongolf5 күн бұрын
Yes. You should be using midsize. Maybe head to the golf store. They usually have a bunch of grips on shafts so you can demo them. They do feel different so before putting them on I would try them.

What is your thoughts on one length irons all the same length as a 7 iron?
@paulwilsongolf5 күн бұрын
I have 2 sets in my garage. I like the concept for sure. If you get them get regular length wedges. This is the problem with Bryson. His pitching is terrible cause his wedges are the length of a 7 iron.

Maybe a stupid question, but am I supposed to actively snap/roll my wrists or am I supposed to keep them lose, and thereby the snap/roll happens by itself? Does both ways work?
@paulwilsongolf5 күн бұрын
As you work on the wrist hinge and release you need to manually do it. How do you know you are doing it? You rarely hit the ball with slice spin. Also, your trajectory would be piercing and nice sound to your shots. At this point let it happen as you switch your focus to legs and hips to power the swing. I am not thinking snap or anything. I allow it to happen due to looseness and simple physics.

Unfortunately for me, I've become a golfer who loses 3 or 4 golf balls hitting it left when I roll my wrists. Yeah, sometimes I hit farther. But, I always fall back to my old swing just to keep from scoring over 100.... And, my mishits are killing me! I need to come to Vegas to get some help. (-:
@paulwilsongolf6 күн бұрын
Well you need to see it the right way. You are seeing the negative in hitting the shots left. I am seeing the positive. The wrists affect spin. The body affects direction. So imagine if every ball hooking. Would that not tell you that you are consistently releasing the club? It sure does. If you hooked 1000 shots in a row high probability ball 1001 would hook right? So why would you be working on hooking it? You are already doing that. You have the spin perfected. You are on the wrong direction. Direction is affected by body. Start your body first arms follow it shallows the club and you hit it straight. Right now you are using your arms sending it over the top. So you can certainly come for lessons. I get unreal results super fast. In the meantime change how you think. You are dividing it into 2 parts. Spin and direction. Get the spin first then work on direction. So tee up a 7 iron. Hit the top and roll it. Forget the direction. Watch the spin. Did it hook? You need to hook about 10 in a row. As you do, remember this feeling. Now, switch to firing the lower body. Hit the top and think about your belt buckle. Think TURN to start the downswing. Just take your belt buckle and turn it back to the ball as soon as you can then keep turning. If so, the body will lead arms follow. Just remember to release the club and boom you hit it straight. Be sure not to fire the lower body as hard as you can. Just make the switch and watch the ball. It will tell you exactly how much hips you need. Watch me fix this guy in minutes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2a1oJ2KrZqmfqs

Hi Paul; Regarding your comments on loft, different companies have different lofts for the same club so the entire concept is skewed. I understand the need to deloft the club but the manufacturers loft will make a difference in distance & trajectory.
@paulwilsongolf6 күн бұрын
They sure do. There is no standard on lofts or shafts. You can thank Callaway for delofting clubs. I still remember the exact moment they did this. It was with Big Bertha's. Once they did it they all had to do it. Now a 5 iron is a 3 iron. Problem now is they have nowhere else to go. Can't defloft them anymore. The problem is people hitting with the arms. When they hit the add loft. So no matter how delofted the clubs are they still hit it nowhere. So as you know a big part of it for me is to get people to roll it and get it releasing. Get this and you're halfway there. Then add some body and boom they hit it great.

I played today, and was pretty careful about not adding loft to my irons, and “feeling the heel”. I hit some good iron shots and had only one fat shot all day, which is a major accomplishment for me. Now I have to mentally recalibrate my distances, because I airmailed one green and hit some shots deeper than I would have liked. Fifty-plus years playing this game, and only now am I actually learning how I’m supposed to swing.

Odd thing. My 7 iron can carry 170 yards but sometimes my driver only carries 250…….seems disproportionate based on clubs Been watching Paul for years and definitely helpful to use as a reference when the swing is off. Ideally a lesson would be great but too far😂
@paulwilsongolf6 күн бұрын
Well, that's good 7 iron distance but driver is lacking at little. So are you just delofting the 7 iron or are you trying to hammer driver? Gotta be one of those. Strong grip hands ahead delofts the club. Now you get a mis-read on the irons. Hitting driver hard tightens the wrists. Something that's tighter swings slower than something that's looser. You want serious power? You need to follow these 2 tips religiously for 30 days. Do as many practice swings as you can. I had a student who was hitting it only do drill 1 (cause he was already using his hips well). He went from 250 to 300 setting the course record at the course I used to teach at.
