Hi! I am very grateful to you for telling me about the weight right away! This is important. I have the same RAY4. What do you think - should I consider some jazz bass as an alternative? I would like the same light neck and not too heavy.
@BobBlackBass5 күн бұрын
Jazz basses are great instruments but can be heavy. Some manufacturers like Sandberg make light ones but they are on the expensive side.

What I do not like about the player 2 series is that they did not release anything for left handed people. Which is a shame because I have a player 1 series p bass and love it. Unfortunately fender has let me down for the last time they tend to forget about us lefties existing 😂 so sire, ibanez warwick Ltd basses and schecter are the way to go for me from now on.

Just got one in , and I agree with you , this is really heavy and it’s heading back , I’ve been playing since 1959 and it’s just way to heavy I’m used to P basses in 8 to 8.5 lbs 10 lbs is a shoulder killer , you wouldn’t think that 2 pounds would make that much difference but even with my very custom strap this would be tuff on the body for 4 hrs .

The line/Mic switch if for the XLR output only. This is dependant on what you are using the XLR for. If you are going front of house you'd want it on MIC. If you are using it for recording purpose into an interface you'd want it set to LINE.

I own nothing but Ibanez basses because they’re the best to me. I love the thinner necks which help with moving around the bass very quickly and the feel is unsurpassed. The tone from these basses is the best I’ve heard, Fender has always been a bit overrated to me. Fender is far overpriced as well, I’d rather have an Ibanez any day.

Looks great and sounds really good. I'm curious to know (because the p/up sounds maybe closer to the neck than on a P bass) The harmonics across the strings, plucked down the dividing line between the two p/ups will indicate if this is the case. On a Fender P (going from the E string to the G), we have B E A D harmonics. I'm curious about this Schecter. Thanks
@BobBlackBass29 күн бұрын
Hey Martin, without doing any measuring, I felt that the pickup felt closer to the neck than on a P. My right hand wanted to move toward the bridge and I thought maybe because it's a short scale but I think that your observation is correct.

@@BobBlackBassThank you, Bob! I own a Fender P that I purchased new in 1977.. it had been custom ordered with a Jazz neck and then never picked up.. many, many, many notes later, I’m now considering purchasing the very Jazz Bass you’ve featured here to have for a spare. Of the two choices you presented (DiMarzio/Aguilar), which would provide more of a ‘punch’ when desired. I’ve always felt the Fender Jazz needs a bit more punch. Thanks Bob! I tried one of these and yes there's a lot to like about it. I just couldn't get past the super skinny neck profile, especially bothersome at the lower frets for me with large hands. Seemed even skinnier than an Ibanez SR neck Thought it would help my arthritic thumb joint, but it actually caused cramping.

I made my own Nordy-inspired mute using one thickness of an old mouse pad, stiffened with a piece of plastic. The Nordy Mute appears to be thicker than mine, so it mutes more than mine does. If you want more muting, use two thicknesses.

I bought a Ray 24 CA but at first I was not impressed. I wanted the sound of the 70's funk and disco bands but it didn't really came out of the Ray 24. So I put the bass aside for some years. Recently I discovered that the stock humbucker was a ceramic one while the original 70's Stingrays came with alnico magnets. I changed the humbucker for a Seymour Duncan SMB-4A (wired in parallel) and WOW! What a sound! No need to buy a MM top model! You can get the real thing for an extra 120 $

I have both the white with maple neck and the green with rosewood neck workmanship very nice no sharp fret ends on either bass traditional tail piece , traditional neck , sounds like the jazz from years ago , for that’s what I really like the mid honk really sits well in the mix , heavy yes but. I expect that in a traditional jazz bass , I’m a small guy nearing 80 years young Lol but there’s a lot of wood in a jazz , I have a very good wide strap that spreads the weight well ,so it’s ok it sounds and does what it should do very well , simple bass with a classic sound. Thanks for your honest review.
