And now we have lost the new Fontana, it sucks because it was a really nice track and a full 1/4 mile.😢

Two nights ago my wife and I were sitting in the Benihana on Inland Empire when it came to me: Hey, I wonder if the old Ontario Motor Speedway is around here somewhere. We're not from here, obviously. I haven't been a race fan in decades. So I look it up and BAM! We're sitting on Turn 4 of the Ontario Motor Speedway! Started looking around after dinner and I said, "Hey look. They built a monument about the Speedway!" Not ONE friggin' mention or hint of a speedway. Just some lame@$$ overbuilt monument to the founder of Ontario who apparently missed Canada. Sorry, nameless founder of Ontario, but your monument was built on top of a sacred gravesite. Anyway, thank you Rusting Relics for going out there and finding what's left. I think it's ALL gone now.

looking at google maps I believe the dirt berms your were looking at was not the track. There were high dirt berms placed down the back straight and around the outside of turn 3 to reduce crosswinds that were very bad. The track was not banked that much.

Thanks for your comment. I just looked at Google earth, and the entire turn 3 area has been developed. Remember, this video is over 10 years old.

I'm glad you opened it up so I could see inside. Now that I know the layout, there's an easier fix. You will need a flashlight and a stiff wire. Shine the light into the slot below the battery compartment and turn that propeller gear using the piece of stiff wire about 10 times. That was enough to get mine working!

I saw my first concert at Ontario Motor Speedway when I was 15 years old. It was Leon Leon Russell. I believe in 1974 ... I was also at California Jam 1/2 and the US Festival. I lived in Upland Ontario area for 45 years and I do miss it. The good 'ol days!! Th 17:22 Thank you for bringing back those memories......

I just looked up this site on Google Maps & the turn 3 area is now being developed so there is nothing left of the track now. I'm glad you were able to go there & film that area before that happened. And of course now the Auto Club Speedway is supposed to be reconfigured into a short track. We'll have to see if that actually happens.

Just picked one up in a flea market and it works. Not as loud as I remember it being when I was a kid. But since it works, I'm not going to take it apart. My only suggestion to this vid is I would have been more careful at removing those rivets. It would have been better to grind the head off one side as they are only sheet metal and then removed the rivet. This would have let you use replacement hollow rivets to reassemble. I also think that the rheostat in the controller is another problem area. I noticed in your vid that the speed of the motor was not consistent with the position of the speed controller. I have not figured out how to get the controller apart without damaging it. I suspect it is not possible. I might try to shoot some contact cleaner inside to try and clean up the surface of the rheostat.
@davegergick8659
@davegergick8659 6 ай бұрын
Oh, the knob of the controller will pop off without too much forcing - but it's impossible to put back together without taking the whole controller apart! ! ! DON'T DO IT! ! ! ! ps - after doing all that and cleaning the wire-wound rheostat, I didn't notice much difference.

@@davegergick8659 Mine works great now. I ended up putting a small piece of plastic thru the speaker grill to press on the plastic speaker cone. This increased the volume markedly. My guess is the speaker mount had gotten loose from age and use. I mounted it on a board and have it in front of my desk for whenever I need to put a grin on my face. I'll send you the link to the vid. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKLQdGSDhJ50fKM

I find it bizarre that all this money, concrete, infrastructure and gone after not that many years. Then later Fontana Motor Speedway is built. Couldn't they have just updated Ontario and saved a lot of money?

an entertainment venue of the past that was replaced with human progress, where growing population takes precedence. Same thing happened where I came from, a speedway built right in the city, from the early 1960's, was torn down in the late 1970's after the city annexed the area due to the rising population. The city forced them. The past is a cool place to visit. Thanks for sharing your visit. 👍

I remember having a motorcycle magazine that described a motorcycle road race that was held at Ontario Motor Speedway. I think Yvon DuHamel won on a Kawasaki, but I can't be sure. It looked like a cool place to me at the time from the photos in the article.

I got one for Christmas in 1963. Parked it in my neighbors driveway and she backed over it on Christmas Day. They were nice neighbors and bought me another one when the bike store opened after Christmas. I was a lot more careful about where I left it afterwards. Was a really cool bike in its day. I rode it till I outgrew it.

Dude, I went to Calif Jam in 74. What a freaking amazing event. When I heard Emerson, Lake, and Palmer were playing, I went. I think I even went to see a drag racing event there. Been so damn long I can't remember. But the Calif Jam was iconic. It was historic. When I went, I got there the night before and hung out in the parking lot on "Schrooms". Then about 10 pm, Keith Emerson apparently came out to do a sound check and was messing with his Moog. Everyone in the parking lot heard it. It was also the time they were messing around with "Quad Sound" at the time where the audio circled you. Wow. It was the most incredible thing ever as a teenager. I'll never forget it. What a shame they tore down a piece of history. Wish I could turn the clock back 48 years ago. It's been that long.

@@RustingRelics I have the first two Nugent albums... still play them. After that, the man became an idiot. His music was still pretty cool and saw him in several concerts subsequently but sorry, he's not the only rock-and-roller I've abandoned as a fan because they become assholes... ( not because he's from the right. Assuming you are saying I'm on the left because you accused me of being fragile? ). Anyway, nice video btw. KZbins A.I. algorithm brought me here today because I looked at a California Jam concert last night, so I got your link. I'm an old Deep Purple and Sabbath fan. More Sabbath though. Have a great day Rusty

No one could have predicted in 1970, when the facility was built, how much the land values were going to increase in a decade. Even with the massive attendance records at the racing events, the money coming in wasn't enough to pay for the place. Debt, is what killed it. 😣
