Great visual storytelling. Love the honesty in the heat - 45 degree furnace on the road ... time to find the shade. Look forward to the coast.

Way to keep up spirits. Texas is brutal on bike tires!

Consider Schwalbe Marathon series tires if you do not like getting flats! I have used them for years without a single puncture driving over broken glass in the city.

Will do. I'll check 'em out.

i figure about 10% of those on the road in the open south want to scare you or are angry at you.. the other 90% don't care or don't know how to drive.. and are looking at you.. hence driving toward you. I have a friend.. and he does the rides across the northern part of the country east to west.. west to east and does not have this problem.. stay north !

Your video is beautiful; I really loved all the cinematic scenes. West Texas and the southwest desert areas have a certain beauty to them, and you perfectly captured it! I am subscribing and following you now. Any time the air temperature exceeds your core temperature, the breeze won't cool you off. In fact, prolonged exposure to hot air has the reverse effect of heating you up even further than no breeze at all. It's the exact opposite of wind chill-it's a wind oven. That's why it is better for motorcyclists to use full leather at high temperatures, as the high relative wind generated by motorcycles can be deadly. But most people don't believe that and think on hot days you should ride in shorts and a T-shirt...

That makes a lot of sense. Ya there is an appreciation for the bleak and desolate desert I formed. It's so far removed from the rivers and forests I usually see in Canada

If you get a new tire, schwalbe makes the Pick Ups in a 20 inch version. Great tire for puncture protection.

I don't know if you tour with a rear view mirror but if you ride out in the road (when its clear) the automobiles squash thorns out in the road leaving you a puncture free path.

Hi you've said it makes you really nervous on the roads in the states, know how it feels. South Africa is the worst the motorist, or alot will dilibrety run you out of the road. Had even young guys came straight forward head on head to me. Don't know why people have to be like that.

I've gone through 20 and 4 tubes. I've promised myself as soon as I get to a bike shop I'm going tubeless. I was getting pretty discouraged on one stretch of the road. I also used my air pump so many times it broke. I had to replace it yesterday.

Damn, that’s a tough break with the trailer! Please don’t use soap in water sources. Even biodegradable soap does not biodegrade in water. Please use a plastic bag, or Sea to Summit kitchen sink and wash 50 meters away from water sources. Also, please pass this information along. A lot of bicycle travelers appear to be unaware of this. Thanks, and good luck!
@thelonelyroadАй бұрын
It's beef tallow soap is perfectly fine and safe to use in water.

Thank you so much for this! So well said. I agree with you. I wanted to be a scientist and instead became the "traveling man" of the family. Leaving on my first ever cycle tour soon (IL to MN and then dream of making it to Argentina as well lol) and my adventure bones are rusty. Thank you. This video is exactly what I needed as the pre-trip nerves build.
