Trying to bikepack across the world can be pretty lonely, that's why I brought my dog, Mikoto along with me. She is a 10 month old Long haired Weimaraner, my best friend and companion. This is her story. Instagram: / thel0nelyroad

What a great dog! Zora does the same 20 km per day average, or 35 before a rest day. We don't use a trailer, it's not always ideal but we used to go backpacking together before I added a bike to our system. It's still easier than carrying a backpack lol.

What an awesome trip you two are taking. I've offered a place to stay if you are ever in the NYC area but might have to rescind. If my girl got her hands on Mikoto you might never get her back. (u/tudur)

The scenery behind you as your telling this story is off the charts. It's such a beautiful way to travel with a great companion. I wish I could do something like this in Thailand but with so many feral dogs here it would be a huge problem.

I can only imagine. I did a tour in India a year ago now, same thing I would never even imagine to bring a dog. There are so many feral ones.

@@thelonelyroad Wow! That's interesting that you've toured India as it's on my list. Where did you go and how did you find it?

@@Biking360 I started in Delhi and then I went to Uttrakand and then to Hamachal Pradesh( Manali, kasol, malana) then I took a train to Bangalore and biked all the way to kanyakumari the very southern tip of India, then back to Mumbai where I left it was a 5000km tour over 6 months

@@thelonelyroad That's absolutely awesome. Did you do any camping and if you did is it easy to get a pitch there?

@@Biking360 I did quite a bit of camping. It was pretty easy. There aren't a lot of rules in India.

@@thelonelyroad Thursday April 1. You were at a pull-off before the big climb up over the major pass. I would have talked to you except for COVID and giving people space 😞.

Have you had to deal with/train her prey drive in Mikoto? I heard Weimaraners can have pretty high ones. If so, how did you do it, e-collar training? Also, I'm sure you probably heard of them already, but I suggest following mira_la_perra on IG, one of the OG dogpackers. Fair winds on your journey together!

Um... no e collar. Infact I refuse to put a collar or a leash on her. To be honest I'm not sure. I trained her to have a lot of attention on me. So often when we passed other dogs or people and eventually 9ther animals I would train her to lightly bite my hand like she was holding and Id get her to 'hold' my hand until we passed. That and I trained really good recall. So sometimes she does catch a scent when we are on a trail I just have to call her.
