Thank you very much! This is a pattern I created and at this time it is not for sale and I just have it in cutout cardboard form. I will say that you will find that if you went ahead and studied the video I am sure you will be able to come up with a pattern very similar and you will be thrilled that you did it on your own. The sides and the gusset and the main body will have the same amount of holes. One extra hole on each side on the main body to really lock in the gusset. Give it a try. If you are not used to making patterns, remember, everyone starts that way. Enjoy the process. Thank you.

Scuff the surface?... so the mixture texture has more surface area fibers to bind to. Maybe? I haven't done it, but it seems that mixture would bind to suede better, if there was a sticking issue. Great video tutorial.

great idea. :) As long as when you scuff the aera without changing the shape of the embossing (which seems very capable of being done). I think scuffing could only help with any sticking issue. On the most part, the paste not sticking is hardly ever an issue, but any idea that improves the technique is worth doing. I am making another octopurse right now. I will scuff this time and let you know if it improves the technique. Thank you for your input.

They also have a billiard cue aerator. It's used on leather pool tips. Could use light pressure and a twist. The twist will do wonders when you see what a billiard cue aerator is, that is, if you dont know what it is. Don't twist on a cue though it will rip through it if it's soft.

thank you for this! does it engrave on rubber? im planning to make customised rubber stamps for my project
@baronleathercraft11 күн бұрын
I have not done it but... Yes, you can make rubber stamps with a 10-watt diode laser, but there are some important considerations and tips to ensure success: Materials Laserable Rubber Sheets: Use rubber specifically designed for laser engraving. Regular rubber might produce excessive fumes or not engrave cleanly. Non-toxic Options: Ensure the material is safe to laser, as some rubber may release harmful fumes. Settings Power and Speed: Diode lasers generally require slower speeds and higher power settings to engrave deeply into rubber. Start with test cuts to determine the ideal settings for your material. For engraving: Use higher power (e.g., 80-100%) and slower speeds. For cutting: Multiple passes may be necessary due to the material thickness. DPI/LPI: Use a high DPI/LPI (e.g., 300-400) for better detail, as stamps require sharp and precise engravings. Image Mode: Set the image to a negative mode in LightBurn or your laser software, so the engraved areas become recessed. I hope this helps. let me know how it turns out. Enjoy!

I'm not using lightburn. How can I manipulate the pockets so the stitching holes stay with the pockets when duplicated and moved ? When trying to select just the pocket and holes in Affinity, it won't allow me to just grab the stitching holes like you do in Lightburn - it only allows me to grab the entire line across the whole wallet
@baronleathercraft11 күн бұрын
Lets assume that you have everything selected, pockets and holes. If they are not grouped. If everything selected hold down shift and then click on the object that you do not want to be selected. It should release that object. So if you have all the holes and the pockets selected, hold shift down and click on the pocket to release it and then drag, it should not drag the pocket with it. the stitch lines won't separate no matter what I try...so I can easily drag the pocket by itself once duplicated, but I have to select the entire stitch line around the wallet or the pocket is just duplicated without the stitching holes. @baronleathercraft13 күн бұрын
I completely agree with you! I used to rely on Adobe Illustrator for creating patterns, but the monthly subscription costs were adding up quickly-especially since making patterns really only requires the most basic features of such a powerful program. When I saw Affinity Designer on sale, I decided to give it a try, and I’ve been so impressed! The one-time fee is such a relief, and I actually prefer it over Illustrator for pattern design. That said, one feature Affinity currently lacks is the ability to trace an image and convert it into a vector. For that, I’ve started using Inkscape, which is a free program. While it’s not as advanced as Illustrator’s image trace tool, it gets the job done for my needs. I’m hopeful that Affinity will eventually add this functionality-it would make the software even better!

In Lightburn you don't have to draw a rectangle around all the objects you want to laser to know the width and height dimensions for your piece of leather. Just select all the objects at once and Lightburn shows the width and height dimensions, just like you draw a fitting rectangle around the objects. Why would you fill-engrave the holes? Just the engrave the contour of each hole is enough since you're going to use a punch to cut them.
@baronleathercraft18 күн бұрын
Yes, Thank you for the info. I am aware. Drawing a rectangle is an approach I used to use with an older version of lightburn and as far as far as filling or contour, I like to fill the holes if I am not going have the laser cut them out because sometimes I dye the leather before I punch out the holes and I am able to see the holes better. It is just a preference that I like.

Great video. I have a bunch of 'spoiled' slate coasters and your idea of sanding and staining is perfect to reclaim them. For your AI images, how are you exporting them? Grayscale or something else? Also are you using a program to prepare them for engraving. I know some people use Imag-R and others use LightRoom. BTW you got yourself a 👍and a new subscriber.
@baronleathercraftАй бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and for subscribing! 😊 I'm glad the idea of sanding and staining could help you reclaim those coasters. For the AI images, I usually use the free Bing image generator. I save them as .jpg files at 1024x1024, which isn’t a huge size, but they work well for engraving. Once imported into LightBurn, the images automatically convert to grayscale. From there, I use the 'Adjust Image' feature. I enable 'Negative Image' and invert the display. I typically set it to the Jarvis dither mode, raise the DPI to around 317, and fine-tune the image by adjusting the gamma and darkening it quite a bit. Sometimes, I'll also tweak the contrast and brightness, but not always. For finishing touches, I lightly adjust the 'Enhance Radius' and 'Enhance Amount'-just enough without overdoing it. The image might look too dark on the monitor (at least on mine), but it engraves just right! You’ll find what works best for your style as you experiment with the settings. And feel free to ask more questions! I’m always happy to share-no secrets here, just sharing the joy of creating! Enjoy!

Awesome to hear! My goal was to share pitfalls I have run into with people so they would not have to. Sharing is caring. :)

I understand you balanced the spacing of the holes, but it is manipluating hole spacing to create the balance. The only way to have precise spacing is to have a stiching path in length that is a multiple of the hole spacing. How close or far off has it been to the desired stitch spacing? For cutting holes with a laser, long as it looks good, not a problem, with stiching irons close may not work. I have been using Fusion360 and doing everything mathmatically, pain to do. This software and the price looks intriguing, thanks

Yes, absolutely. As you said, it works because it is subtle. It does get tricky when you have to create holes on a bag and then match the holes to a gusset. When I do this, I use a different but similar technique without using the balance option. I cut the stitch line into parts and then mirror them to the other side. Your concept of using mathematics is definitely the most precise option. I’ve done this using multiples of 4mm because I prefer that type of stitching iron. I started using the method in this video based on similar findings. It is easier and saves time. I often find myself spending hours behind the computer because I’m too lazy to cut and thong on my own. The laser is so precise as well. :)

Awesome just what I was thinking of doing! You saved me a lot of time and hassle!! Waiting to watch par w!,

Yes, That is what inspired me to figure out how to do this. Why trace it when you can have a laser do it with a much steadier hand then mine. :) You can also do this in inkscape which is a free program. Not as much control but can be done.

Hi, are you able to do larger glass objects like mugs/champagne, stainless yeti coffee mugs with the icube, thanks
@baronleathercraft2 ай бұрын
The space is very limited with this device. The work space is only 130mmx130mm. This would not be a good choice for engraving those items. If you plan on engraving those items you will need a machine that is tall. Extender legs are able to be bought with most machines, plus you will need a laser engraver rotary. The icube would not be idea. Anymore questions just let me know.
