Bama's strength of schedule alone puts them in over Miami. There will definitely be some issues, but the new playoff system will be better than anything we have had in the past. It will be at it's best when we get it to 16 teams.
@thedirtysouthpodcast21 күн бұрын
Yes they have better wins but they also have worse losses. It's hard to use the sos argument if you are losing to two 6-6 teams like yeah you beat the good teams on your schedule but you lost to the bad on your schedule and one them was a blowout in which you didn't even score a touchdown

Also Personally, I think a 6 team playoff would be best because if you make an 8 team format, you don't reward the top seeds enought and this 12 team format allows for the best teams to make more mistakes and get into the playoffs. As a Bama fan I have been saying even before the year, this won't help the cinderella stories, it will kill them forever because they could win 1-2 games but eventually, that cinderella team will get stopped. Unless its that good Alabama team that lost 3 games or that good Georgia team that lost 3 games including the conference championship, and they make the run because of the extra regular season leeway. It's great for the big boys and the big boys only in the end. Also the seeding needs to change because the 5 seed ends up being more coveted than the 1 seed in this format sometimes and that is just not right. I'm okay with auto bids, but auto bids for bye weeks in the playoffs is BS and should be fixed. Also reseeding after the first/second round would help a lot after you do that.
@masterandcomandr344124 күн бұрын
In 2022 where they kept out Alabama for a TCU team that had a weak SOS, played their entire schedule close, and didn't win their conference. They didn't put Bama in that year. I think they did the right thing, don't get me wrong, but they could have easily justified it. Also they had the best argument this year, Much better SOS than Miami including much better best wins and slightly worse losses, Better wins than Ole miss and comparable losses, and a head to head win vs SC along with comparable SOS. The BCS model would even have them in at 11. If people just switched the logo of Alabama and one of the 3 teams that got left out, and you put Bama's resume on their heads, people wouldn't be complaining. Also I don't care about “top 25 record”, that is such a terrible stat. Even without it Bama has the best argument this year. Most people always advocate to look at the whole year like last year when it came to arguing Bama out of the playoffs in favor of Florida State. But this year people were arguing look at recent games (aka SC’s 6 game winning streak) to get SC in there. I believe just Bama hate and Bama fatigue that blinds people. Give me better arguments other than just saying "they lost to Vandy and got blown out by Oklahoma" and "Bama bias" because since its a 12 team playoff, of FRICKING COURSE the last few teams in will have major flaws, we tripled the amount of teams that got in. As a Bama fan I think SC is better than Bama this year right now but look at last year, I thought Bama was better than Texas by the time the playoff came out but that doesn't mean they should have been ahead of them. Also, if anything, BYU should be ahead of Miami because they both have played their whole schedule close, same record, and BYU has a better SOS and better best wins with comparable worst losses. Again I hate the top 25 record stat that the committee uses because there is a massive difference between beating #2 and #25 while there isn’t much difference between beating #25 and #26. Their rankings beyond #11 IMO are absolute hot garbage. Unfortunately though those rankings will not end up mattering at this point for playoff discussions. If you read this far, thank you for reading and I’d love to hear from you. Have a great day!
@thedirtysouthpodcast24 күн бұрын
@@masterandcomandr3441 Well yes, with the playoff expanding to 12 teams, there will definitely be some teams with "unfavorable" records that sneak in, but there are better candidates for the playoff, if the committee is going off of resume. The problem is that the committee is inconsistent with whether or not they are going by eye test or by resume. If they are going by resume, Bama should be in since there are teams with better resumes than them, but if they are solely going off of roster and eye test, then maybe Bama should get the nod. The committee has proven this year and in years past to be inconsistent with criteria for making the playoff. Have a great one 🫡

The worst parts about it that most people miss imo 1. If Georgia Tech really wanted to, they could have scored MUCH more this. 2: Cumberland’s law school (where they got all their “players” in this game) was sold after this. This could have legitimately fucked up people’s law careers. 3: The only reason why this happened is because George Allen was a cheating idiot and John Heisman was good enough and spiteful enough to do this. The law students that got injured and humiliated were the only ones here who were innocent of any wrong doing, and they got punished as if they did.

Here's the thing about UGA. Since the SEC was founded in 1933, we have the 4th most wins in CFB (only Bama, Oklahoma and Ohio State have more). That's the most recent 91 seasons. Since the sport fully integrated in 1972, UGA is also 4th. In the conference championship era, beginning in 1992, UGA is 2nd. In the 21st century UGA is 3rd. So that's Top 4 in wins in any definition of the modern era. And that's playing in the toughest conference, which we have won more times than anyone not named Bama. Bottom line is you have to add in all of the now completely irrelevant leather helmet, segregated, no facemask era to take UGA out of the Top 4, and even if you add it in, UGA is still 9th in wins among current D1 teams. Pretty hard to say that's not blueblood in 2024.

Oregon is good, not nat contenders. Nebraska is 2nd year under new coach, and they're trending up into mid tier. Rutgers is trending up, with top25 recruiting class coming in. With their easy schedule this year, they'll get more wins than you expect. USC can't tackle, but their offense makes up enough for them to be good. Minnesota is mid, if they fall off this year. PJ Fleck will be in the hot seat. Wisconsin is a good team, just not national contending good. If you look at the tier list, you need more in mid. All those bad teams can't lose to each other. One or two of them will bump into mid. Rutgers and nebraska are the most likely.
@thedirtysouthpodcast5 ай бұрын
In this particular tier list, I'm not speaking on a conference level, I'm speaking on a national scale. I just happened to choose the Big Ten for this list. I do see what you're saying though. I disagree with the Oregon take because, the playoff is expanded this year to 12 teams and I can see them winning a playoff game or two as long as they don't run into the wrong team. I also disagree with the USC take because they're moving to the Big Ten where the good teams in the conference have good enough defenses to slow down their offense just enough. They're also not going to stop anybody from scoring, so that's going to be a major factor in how underwhelming I think they're going to be in 2024. I can honestly also see your point with Rutgers. I don't personally think their going to do all that well even with the easy schedule but they can definitely get more wins than I expect. Sorry for the essay. -HHN
