Stopped following kpop in the late 90s when SES, FinKL, and Diva reigned supreme. Looks like all these groups nowadays (with a few exceptions) came off an assembly line. 🤑 Regardless, nice to see YG still slaying.

It was so fun to be a Sone during OT9 and get to know almost all GG and BB that released their songs during those years (no drama, it’s just me stop following kpop before that incident). I was really hoped that T-ARA and KARA will be more popular back there. So sad for many unfortunate things to happen to the girls I rooted for 😢.

I love T ARA, they went from 10th to 2nd in just 2 years, even when they were boycotted, international fans still welcomed them. If China also uses KZbin, their number of views is not inferior to any other music group at the same time.

In my opinion, they’re the most dominant idol group on the digital charts since BIGBANG. I’ve never seen a group (besides BIGBANG) completely dominate the digital charts like NewJeans did. 2023 in particular, they basically controlled the Melon chart. Multiple songs at the top, insane longevity, hit after hit. NewJeans have more #2 songs on Melon than #1 songs because they keep blocking themselves. Crazy.

In the last 15 years in very obvious that girl groups can reach the general public more easily than boy groups that are more niche with close fandoms, just BIGBANG/EXO/BTS were there consistently with fandom and general public. Heck BIGBANG dont release an album since MADE 2016 and they were the group with most stream on youtube music Korea in 2024, only day6 was ahead but they are a band.
@soneparadise2007
@soneparadise2007 28 күн бұрын
@@NerdChannelBrasil Yes that is true. Girl groups are much more heavily preferred by the Korean general public. It’s gotten worse since 4th gen, as no 4th gen boy groups have made an impression on the general public. This is in direct contrast to the top girl groups of 4th gen that dominate everything. 5th gen boy groups have at least seen potential with RIIZE and TWS.

Yeah the taste of Korean listeners and international listeners can be quite different! The biggest hits of 2021-2022 being still very prevalent in this video is definitely impressive. 2023 is also a given because it’s extremely recent. Time will tell which songs continue to have longevity. For example, 2NE1’s I Don’t Care and SNSD’s ITNW are over 15 years old. They’re both still in the top 100.

Can we normalize QWER and Instrumental Bands in general as k-pop? They are still PEFORMERS with public personalities who make pop music in Korean, so please include them next time.
@soneparadise2007
@soneparadise2007 29 күн бұрын
They’re not really an idol girl group which is why I didn’t include them. All of the groups in this video are idol girl groups. QWER is classified in a different category which is why I don’t include them. They’re different types of bands. One is clearly an idol band such FTISLAND and CNBLUE. Those boy groups were definitely considered idols and marketed as such back then. They would always be included in discussions with peers such as TVXQ, Suju, BIGBANG, SHINee, 2PM, BEAST, etc. The other includes bands like QWER and DAY6. They are idol adjacent but not actually an idol group. The easiest way to tell if a group is considered an idol is to look at their contemporary peers. QWER and DAY6 will never show up in discussions about idol girl or boy groups. While FTISLAND and CNBLUE always showed up back during 2nd gen. I hope this helps explain why I didn’t include QWER.
@cowboylikepie1365
@cowboylikepie1365 28 күн бұрын
@soneparadise2007 the 2nd gen bands were peers with dancing groups because they had hit songs and allowed lots of promotional activities. But DAY6, Xdinary Heroes and such don't get these privileges from the start. DAY6 performs on music shows, have albums with photocards, have fanmeeting/fancalls, go on the same reality shows as idol groups to promote and trained in the idol system of a big 3 company. If that isn't considered an idol idk what is. South Korea right now definitely treat DAY6 and QWER as idols. They're labeled as boygroups and girlgroups respectively on MelOn and nominated on the same catagories as idols group on award shows. I believe DAY6 and QWER have enough reason to be considered idol groups and differentiate from other typical instrumental bands in south Korea like Nerd Connection. Please they deserve recognition for their efforts just as dancing groups. I believe more company will debut idol instrumental bands in the future because of their success this year so just start including them please. It doesn't hurt anyone🫶😅
@soneparadise2007
@soneparadise2007 28 күн бұрын
@@cowboylikepie1365 The main reason I do not include them in videos like these is because their peers/competitors are so different. QWER’s peers are not the top girl groups of 4th gen. DAY6’s peers are not BTS or Seventeen. QWER and DAY6 operate in their own niche that saw an extreme resurgence in popularity this year. There is precedent for groups like these. For example, the female band Hans Band in the late 90s comprising of three young sisters. Their peers were not S.E.S. or Fin.K.L. There was also the male band Buzz in the 2000s comprising of young, handsome men with dyed hair. Their peers weren’t SHINHWA or god. Hans Band and Buzz both appeared on music shows as well. The Melon classification is just used to distinguish groups with either men or women. It is not used to distinguish idol groups. For example, Nerd Connection is also classified as a male group on Melon because they compromise of men. I respect your opinion and it was great to see band music have a resurgence in Korea this year. Both Day6 and QWER had a great 2024. I just don’t include them in my videos because their peers/competitors are not the same. They are in their own niche that is different from idol music. They are nominated in the same categories because award shows do not distinguish between idol and non idol acts. They usually only distinguish between male and female artists. Both QWER and especially DAY6 are recognized in Korea and are both very popular. They just aren’t in the same discussions as idol dancing groups.
