Yep. It happens. And the oe we tried so hard to save was a rooster. He's still gorgeous, but WAY too dramatic. Chipmonk colored chick grew to spectacular colors, looks NOTHING like the chick I bought!

This operation DOES work. Be patient and attentive, make sure they have a heat source, and remember chicks don't necessarily need water or food for a couple days after hatching while absorbing the rest of the yolk that has been enclosed in their body cavity. Make water available and dip the chicks beak in it so it makes the association.

I watch and REwatch your posts-even having chickens too for almost a year, you always teach me something new. (Or remind my tired brain)❤

I have to say that my favorite breeds out of my flock so far would be my speckled Sussex, splash Ameracauna, and Pita Pinta Asturianas. My Pita Pintas are the SWEETEST things ever. I do like my Bielefelder, too, but she’s soooo dumb, lol.

I had a chick arrive like this. It could only paddle around in a circle. I took a cut piece of a latex glove and tied those little legs together. I made a cardboard chute and ran it down it a few times because it’s brain was confused. I placed it on a towel so it could get a better grip on walking. Yay! It worked. Beautiful all white chicken. Wouldn’t you know, I ordered pullers but somehow this was a rooster. I kept him 8 years. Very quiet and docile. His name was Rick Flair. Whoooo!

Awesome! If it were me doing this, the chick would surely be a roo! 🤣 Out of 11 chicks that made it out of the incubator, SEVEN were roos. They're a bachelor flock & they're doing great!

Back in peru of narajitos, i remember on farm they were gonna put 3 chick for a chicken to mother. I noticed only 2 were taken and that the chick that couldn't walk yet was still not walking. I was told that he just needed more time. Eventually i found it's head gashed open barely breathing and carried him to one of the farm women. Still makes me sad, the mother most likely saw it not surviving, and before that happened i remember having thoughts of wanting to keep that one, makes me sad

We use this same thing in larger animals as well, sometimes they go by different names. Recently actually my own dog dislocated a hip, and once popped back into place we use one of these, we refer to it as a “hobble” in order to keep the legs closer together so they can’t splay out, while still allowing her to walk around. A surprisingly simple contraption that works wonders.

Its incredibly easy to find rhis kind if wrap as well, we get the off brand stuff from the pharmacy to keep around as partbof our general first aid kit for humans and animals alike. Its really good for keeping gauze pads on awkward parts. I messed up my knee pretty bad in a fall a couple years ago and it took forever for the skin to heal i used this kind of self adhesive wrap to hold a no adhesive gauze pad over my knee to help protect it while it healed the wrap has a lot of strwtch and even when it stays on for a long time and is exposed to moisture it only sticks to itself

I have a metal roof over my run and notice its dripping water in my run,so its making my ground muddy and im sure cold because its in 20s of day and low teens at night ,plus we have over a foot of snow,so thats up on the roof of my run and coop is inside run as well,water isnt getting in coop but is it condesation and what should i do ?
