This exact thing happened today. I ended up using a wet tissue to help get off that poop. Poor little chick.

There is a good YT video called "Life Saving Operation on a Baby Chicken". It shows what can happen when Pasty Butt is not treated in a timely manner.

So if the room temp is around 60° and you use a brooder plate that's enough warmth? I got the K&H brooder plate - thanks for the heads up about the dangers of heat lamps. I have a chick order coming from Meyer Hatchery in April.

I like 65 for that first week but after that they are a little stronger
