Simply snipping the reed and leaving it in place helped one of my hats to fit better and be much more comfortable.
@HatLifeAdventures6 күн бұрын
Yes, I think that is probably the best action over removing it right away. I did come to that conclusion later, when I realized that the wire wouldn’t actually poke me in the head after snipping. Some guys do remove it immediately, but now I’m with you about leaving it in there. Thanks, Jay!

@@HatLifeAdventures I wonder if the United States flag will continue to change throughout the decades until the end of time? (Basically if it gained more States and more stars get added to the flag. OR if the flag said something patriotic on it).

Fun to think about. In the past there was a "Great Star" flag - where all the stars were in formation of a single, five-pointed star - and a 'flower' flag.

I too can testify to Fed IVs becoming softer over time and use. My first two (brown and black), which have endured a goodly amount of rain over a few years, are now very soft. My new ones are very firm. What I do not remember is whether my first two were as firm when they first arrived as the new Fed IVs are. Do you have any thoughts on this?
@HatLifeAdventures11 күн бұрын
Hey! Yes, I remember my first brown Imperial felt and the Tawny Fawn being extremely stiff. I was amazed at how stiff the brown one was. When I got the brown Heritage it brought back the memory of how stiff the first one was 🤣

What advice do you have for a windy is there a way to keep your hat on in a high wind other than just holding it. I have learned that the chin sting can be used by placing it around the back of the head. This method works well most of the time. How ever the Indiana Jones or Fedora style hats do not have a chin strap or string, any advice?
@HatLifeAdventures14 күн бұрын
Hey! You can purchase a windchord that goes around the base of the crown and attaches to the collar of your shirt or jacket. Windchords are very common and come standard on some hats. They’ve been used for many years. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

I'm in Bakersfield, CA and we have not gotten much rain at all this season. Barely any rain. No snow in the western Sierras. Skiing resorts can't operate until enough snowfall. No fires here but the wind is wonky with Santa Ana Winds coming from the northeast.

I know you said it’s the Heritage Fawn, but on your video, the hat looks grayish (similar to the moonstone but darker) whereas on the hats direct website, it looks like a light brown. Is it actually a shade of gray for you or is it just the color from your videos? Asking because I would buy the color on your video, but would not see a way to match the fawn. Thanks!
@HatLifeAdventures19 күн бұрын
In the kitchen light it’s definitely a grayish brown. I’m going to try today after work to make a color comparison video outside and inside lighting conditions.

I bought a surplus Akubra Slouch Hat, circa 2001, from ebay, that arrived yesterday. Figured I'd use it as my "learning" hat. I've cut the brim down to about 2.5in, and bashed the crown in a vaguely Indy shape, largely following how you do it. The Heritage Fawn Deluxe was already on my wish list, if I find I like a felt hat, so it's good timing for you to get yours.

I'll never get over the fact that (before the pandemic) I was able to travel to Australia with my wife and family...we actually stayed in Sydney....had a rental car...traveled to a wild animal park in the Blue Mountains (got to pet a koala)...actually convinced the family to let me journey a bit farther to Katoomba...and arrived ten minutes after the Hattery store had closed. Sigh. Probably would have spent far too much money there, so it's probably for the best. But still...
