This may be my favorite video of the year from you just because it's fun and something you have a clear interest in. Sometimes it's fun just to make a video about something we just like with it having to be all technical. Still informative but on the lighter side.

Best review of this thing I have seen. Nothing surprising but well done. Apple should pay attention. I knew this would be too expensive for me from the start and that it would be be of limited usefulness to me. The comparison to the iPad was a particularly useful one to understand where we are with it today. If they can get it to under $2,000, well then maybe …

The keyboard and mouse on the MacBook does control other apps in the vision pro based on where you're looking. It's mostly great. However, occasionally I look away from the Mac while I type and end up typing or scrolling in some other app.

yea there's a distinct line but why would any device solely be one or the other when the cost to do it is low.

you can connect to any M series Mac, not just the laptops. The laptops are just easier.

one thing they should get rid of that would reduce weight, cost, and improve battery life is the front facing screen. No one cares about that.

Yeah, that's an obvious thing that will go whenever the next release comes out.

Video notes *on excel*? That's WILD! Have you tried Notion, Obsidian, Capacities, etc or AnyType? (this last one is open source) I've not tried this, but they say this is the best pass-through video there is. Still, my ideal scenario for an MR device is floating screens just for work in an AR environment, so something like the Xreal One is a lot more appealing since with AR you still see the real world through the glass, not through a camera. This is important because it allows me to focus on different points of the environment instead of having everything presented on a single plane. I'm concerned about eye health VR seems really good at this point for truly immersive applications, like sim racing or spaceship simulators

He he. Yeah, I guess excel is an odd choice. I 'grew up' on excel though, so it's a natural tool for me, and I'm just doing an outline which 100 apps can handle with ease. But yea, it's odd. Not sure if Apple will be the one to win the AR/VR war, but it's hard to deny that tech in some form will change our lives in the not too distant future. For me, the question is more around how much will it impact society.

@@jeffreymoss If you ever get the chance to test the Xreal One or one of the upcoming android vr smart glasses you might be able to tap into another niche segment. It's also potentially valuable for productivity especially now that Google is bringing proper android support. I remember that's how the MRTV channel started, with Daydreaming-specific content (before it was shut down by, ahem, Google)

Gotta try the avatar. Create one and you'll see how much it really looks like you and recreate your expressions in real time

Thank you for your review. I purchased a half price Vision Pro off eBay and while it appears to be a scam, I am hopeful it will arrive. Regardless, I will definitely purchase the second generation.

For ten years headsets have come out and fizzled. With every launch, solvable problems are identified and solved. Has it occurred to anyone that all the solvable problems in the world won't attract a crowd with zero interest in spatial computing? If I had to describe VR to someone, I'd say: it's a high tech blindfold that blocks out reality like a pair of closed eyelids. So, our body is here in the physical world, but we ourselves are miles away. How am I not describing a dream? So, we've perfectly aped nature's escape from reality. As smart people, what format, what product would naturally work best in VR? A dream! Are we all dumb? Could this be more obvious?

It is a resounding flop of course, no denying it. Too soon, wrong priorities. But there's a valuable future here for sure, and apple would be the ones to capitalise on it.
