This piece of apparatus used to be out at the station in Peacock gap. My dad drove it on many occasions usually during fire prevention week in October. He would give kids rides through the parking lots. The kids would ride up in the hose bay or a lucky couple of kids would be able to sit up front and ring the bell. This truck holds many fond memories for me. Dad, Captain Ken Mazza, unfortunately passed at the age of 51 just one month after his birthday, and three weeks before the birth of his first granddaughter, our first daughter.

What a special day seeing this relic back up and running. As Steve said, it was going to take a long time to get this back in running, working condition. You couldn’t ask for a better team to get this project completed. Job well done fellas. Well done.

That was great! Jack, Dick, and Dick’s son Matt are good men. The picture of the house fire was from Piedmont Drive. 1994.

I was John's engine operator on the Cedar Fire in San Diego in 2003 that he and Bruce talked about in this interview. As I recall, he had been hired as a late season replacement Seasonal Firefighter that year, was only 18, and as such, was very inexperienced. When Steven Rucker died, our strike team took on the role of representing Novato Fire. We led the procession to the airport, and were there when the hearse carrying his body went by en route to the cargo aircraft. All of us were directed to stand at attention as the hearse drove by us, and then "released" to at ease after it passed. I was standing next to John, and noticed that he was still at "attention", so I whispered that he could be " at ease", and his only comment was "I don't want to". I saw that kid grow up that day, and I've never forgotten that moment. I was so impressed. So glad to see him being successful in the fire service. Well done....

What a joy to see Jack and Dick again. I worked with them as a volunteer and a part time paid in the 70's. Wonderful people. Brings back so many memories. My best to them both.

50 years ago I drove that beast as a volunteer firefighter. Dad had love hate attitude with that truck, always wanted it to run like a finely tuned watch. So many stories about it like how the gas tank now does not have the Indian chief on the side of the gas tank anymore, poor Elmo almost falling out of the back of it, Chief Thornton being told that the crew were speeding on Sir Francis Drake when it didn't go that fast....My only regret is that HE the man never got to get his final ride in that great old truck. Looking good Steve

Thanks for the opportunity to talk about the North Bay Incident Management Team (NBIMT), our background and current work. I want to add that we did do a full team activation to support the development of a Surge Plan and Alternate Care Site (ACS) for the County. We've been working closely with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and staff from Health & Human Services (HHS) on this project. I want to recognize all the team members that have been supporting this project. NBIMT rocks!
