This entire ending rules. Not just the actual battle with black doom, but as a finale to basically Shadow's entire story for the last 20 years. We see him finally declare he's moving past his destructive anger which has been weighing him down for over 50 years, he finally gets to smile, he rejects Black Doom's influence and asserts that he is Shadow the Hedgehog after multiple games of his identity being in question, and then finally gets closure with Maria when she basically tells him she's ok with her death and will live on in Shadow's heart. It's so, so fitting that this game ends with Shadow willingly leaving Maria and Robotnik while he sheds tears. What a great ending, extremely satisfying.
