Low key Vegeta should have gone SSJ2 when Cell killed Trunks, if the "Thats my Bulma" moment sent him above SSJ3 Goku Trunk's death should have made him go way beyond super perfect Cell.

Vegeta from Super is more reformed than Vegeta from the Cell Saga Even as late as the Buu Saga Vegeta still had evil in his heart If Trunks was killed in front of the current version of Vegeta, he’s for sure getting a new transformation and merking the villain But back then, it just didn’t hit him as hard

Answer is simple. He couldn’t go ssj2 because he hadn’t mastered ssj yet aka ssj g4, so he couldn’t go to that next step yet

Honestly, Vegeta's transformation into SSJ2 was underwhelming. I didn't even realized he actually achieve it at that moment when he thought Trunks died. They could had put more dynamic oomph into that scene.

For those wondering on how to trigger this What If. 1. Beat 18, which will unlock the battle with Trunks 2. During the battle with Trunks, try to avoid his attacks while dishing out your attacks. if you hear Trunks say “Guess I don’t need it after all”, you won’t trigger the scenario. If you hear Trunks say “Father is brutal”, you did it right. Hope this helps
